$3.00 Brass Pendant Light turned into Pottery Barn Style!!!
I am so pumped about the project I am sharing today!!!
I LOVE it when I get something for really cheap!!!
And I LOVE it even more when it is really ugly, and I make it look really beautiful!!!
This is what I did with this $3.00 bras beauty from the Habitat store…
I know, I know… you are awestruck by its beauty!
I saw this thing hanging in all its glory, and I immediately saw it had potential.
It had the shape I was looking for. The shape for the pendant light I wanted in our laundry/mud room.
You’ve seen them before. Sort of like these from Pottery Barn magazine…
Well, my little $3.00 treasure was on its way to an extreme makeover!
Say goodbye to old, dated, brassy yuckiness…
Say hello to new, classy, Pottery Barn-style “va-va-voomness!”…
Oh, yeah baby!! Are you feeling me?!!!
Don-cha just love it?
Seriously.
For $3.00! Get out of here!
(Can you tell how excited I am?)
It is exactly the “look” I was after.
All I needed was a can of Valspar flat black spray paint and a hack saw.
Sorry I didn’t get a picture of it, but see those ugly little curlycues on the top of the light. I didn’t want them there. I think it would still have looked pretty if I had kept them, but it was a little too dressy for my laundry room. I wanted a more simple look.
So I sawed them off with a hack saw. It took about 10 seconds per curlycue.
Then I disassembled the light so I could paint it. Sorry I didn’t take a picture of that either.
Things happen quickly around here!
But I gave it two good coats of flat black spray paint and I was done!
My hubby hung it in our laundry/mud room.
I cleaned the glass globe and assembled it back together.
Wha-la!
Here are a few more pics…
(laundry room is not completely finished)
Here she is all lit up…(I guess you can see we decided to paint the bead board ceiling white!) :)
Isn’t she a beaut, Clark? :)
So for a total of about $6.00 or $7.00 (pendant light + spray paint), I now have a beautiful light for my laundry room. Woohoo!!!
Here is a before and after shot…
From Brassy to Classy!
I hope you like it as much as I do!
I will be sharing more about our laundry/mud room makeover this week. :)
Have a blessed day.
i am lovin it too!

Love this!! What a difference!
Sooooooo fantastic. Love what you said, “From brassy to classy.” Haha!! So true!
I love, love, love this! It really looks like it’s expensive. I just love thrifty redos! Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration.
I can’t believe that is the same light!!! If there were such a thing a TOO amazing, you’d be it! I don’t know how you do it! Thank you for sharing your amazingness with us…I’m hoping some will rub off to me : )
Are you kidding me??? That is so jolly marvelous!!! I just LOVE it! I cannot by celebrate your eye for the hidden potential. Seriously – I would not even have seen the “beauty within”. Thant is so fabulous! I love it hanging up there in your place.

Oh my word, i LOVE it! Fabulous job girl! :)
What an amazing makeover! I need to go hunt some brass lights down now. I had no idea you could spray paint that sort of thing!
Fantastic Makeover! Love it :) Have a blessed week~
Wow, Traci! I love that fixture & what a deal you got. I have so loved finding deals like that for my lighting too & paint does the trick. Great job with that, perfect for your LR. I think I’ve missed a couple posts. Your LR/mudroom is beee-utiful, love it all, esp. that ceiling.
Can’t wait to see you & your sis (I hope) again at Blissdom!
That looks amazing!
WOW – this turned out Gorgeous! Great job!
omigosh! Love this! I have been trying to think of lighting options for my laundry room and this just went right to the top of the list! Love it! great job!
Wow! The transformation is stunning. The look you wanted for only $3…can’t beat that!
Oh my goodness I love it! It looks beeuutifullllllll! I love your “Isn’t it a beaut Clark?” comment. I love watching Christmas Vacation this time of year. My family has been watching it for years.
Wow!! Love it! Can’t wait to see your finished laundry room. I love the ceiling and the color you have put on the walls…..Hurry up and finished already!!! LOL
LOVE it! So perfect! Makes me want to run out to our local ReStore and see if they have anything similar. great re-do. i can’t wait for the reveal.
Fantastic transformation :)
Your light looks fantastic. I was also wandering what’s the name and brand of your brown paint on your walls? I love it. Thanks,
Monica
A fabulous and frugal makeover! The trim, beadboard ceiling, paint….it is all so lovely.
It looks AWESOME, Traci! Way to go!! Congratulations on having the vision to take this brassy girl into beauty!
WOW. What a find!!!!
I love, love, love spray paint! You did SUPER on that deal for it, too! I had one of these, similar, posted on my church’s free cycler and I just could NOT figure out where I would put it (our ceilings aren’t so high)…but, I thought about it for a long time!!
can you tell me the color of paint you used in your laundry room? i love brown!
That looks great!! You almost make me want to shop at Goodwill :-)
Very nice! I also love that you quoted Clark W. Griswold!
Traci, I LOVE, LOVE your mud/wash room. I never understand why people move after they fix their house all up. I would never want to leave. I guess that might be the differance between having a husband who likes to renovate and one (mine) whom you have to pull teeth and beg and plead to do anything. Can’t wait to see the finished product, and the fixer-upper home. Tina
LOVE IT! Now this will be one STYLIN’ laundry room!
Wow! Just lovely!!!
It is amazing how you transformed that light fixture! I would have passed right over it at the Habitat Store. Thanks to you, next time I’ll look twice before I walk away from a diamond in the rough. Love, love, love the beadboard ceiling!
Beautiful! Great job!
Amazing!!! I can’t believe you turned something sooo ugly into something soooo beautiful! GREAT Job!!
You ALWAYS amaze me with your eye for this kind of stuff. I wish you lived near Dallas! I’d follow you around every chance i got! lovely..
Absolutely g!orgeous! I am looking for similar pendant lighting. Will have to look at some of the tacky brass chandy’s in a whole new light. Fabulous job on this project
Oh my goodness! Ya done good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love it!!!
I love it, Traci! I thought it was ORB, but then you said black. I think it looks great and I guess you could go with or without the curlicues. Definitely a great copy on a budget!
Traci, I love the light, the brown paint, and the board walk walls! Oh so PB!!!
I love that you cut those scrolls off. You have such a great eye. I probably would have look at this and said, “oh, I don’t like the scrolls” and passed it right by.
lovess it! i did that to my chandelier in my dining room that was previously gold/bronze too. and it makes such a big difference.
I LOVE your beadboard ceilings!!! The light is great, but I am absolutely drooling over your ceilings. My husband tells me that with a 100 year old house, we can’t put stuff on the ceiling cause the house moves too much…and I. Am. Jealous.
Ooh shoot i just wrote a big comment and as soon as i hit reply it came up blank! Please tell me it worked right? I dont want to submit it again if i do not have to! Either the blog glitced out or i am an idiot, the second option doesnt surprise me lol. thanks for a great blog!
Thanks for the link but you just made me EXTREMELY jealous! I’ve been drooling over a Pottery Barn light that is similar to this but with a much heftier price tag. Its always nice to have a reminder that you can find it for cheaper and have a little DIY project! Love your site….. I’m a new follower :)
I can feel your excitement. :) I’d be excited about that, too. Dontcha just love spray paint and what it can do? That fixture is beautiful and it looks wonderful in the mudroom.
Awesome! You really have vision! I love your mudroom and had a similar idea for my garage but want to incorporate a trash can and recycle bin in the bench seat. Maybe separate lift-up lids.
I have a very similar light in my entry way. I spray painted mine in Oil Rubbed Bronze. I used a glass frosting paint on the globe for softer lighting. Love the way yours turned out!
Holy cow! I love it. Great eye for potential beauty & the skills to make it happen!
Warmly, Michelle
I love, love, love it!! I have a similar fixture that will be getting this treatment! My question is . . . did you just spray paint the cord and hooks, too? That was my conundrum . . . would the paint cover it correctly?
I believe I did. That project was about 5 years ago. But I usually spray paint everything. :)
