Burlap Folder Holders and Tin Buckets

If there is anything I hope you learn from following my blog, it’s that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to make your home beautiful.

I was determined not to spend a lot of money on my craft closet makeover.

(Mainly because I don’t have any money right now. :)   I am not teaching anymore, and I am as broke as a joke!)

But I want to always show my readers with a little creativity (and your local Goodwill store) you can make your home beautiful for very little money.

Now I don’t know if I would call my craft closet beautiful, but definitely cute!

The most expensive thing I bought for my closet makeover was the pegboard and hooks I bought at Lowe’s.  I had about $10.00 in all of that. (I already had a can of black spray paint.)

But the rest of the stuff I purchased at Goodwill.

I knew I wanted a folder holder, a clip board, and some tin buckets.  I found all of those things at Goodwill.

The folder holder was clear and only $1.00.

I used a glue gun and some burlap (my favorite material) that I already had to cover it.

You could cover it in any material you have on hand.  Or you could use scrapbook paper and modge podge to cover it too.

I just hot glued the material around the holder….

Being sure to clip the material around the curvy part with scissors so it would lay flat….

Then folded the edges over, just like wrapping a present…

Then it was done!

Except it looked a little messy, which bugged me.  So I took another piece of burlap and covered the inside to make it look neater.

Warning:  When working with burlap and a glue gun…you will burn your fingers when the hot glue seeps through the material!

Trust me.

Crafting is not for sissys!

I saw this cute picture at BHG.com, and knew I wanted some little buckets in my closet makeover.

And would you believe that very afternoon at Goodwill, I saw these…

Okay, so they were not exactly what I was looking for, but they were close enough.

They were only a dollar a piece.

I wanted to keep them silver, so I peeled the Christmas stickers off and cleaned them up real good.

You could have spray painted them a different color if you had wanted.

I did add these adorable little chalkboard labels that my sponsor Leen the Graphics Queen sent me before Christmas.

I had been dying to find a place to use them in my house, and these buckets were the perfect place!

These labels are only $8.00 for a set of 12 at Leen’s.  If you would like to order some, click HERE.

The clipboard I also purchased at Goodwill for $1.00.  I used about $2.00 worth of scrapbooking paper and ribbon to make it.  I will share the tutorial later.  :)

So there you have it!

I spent about $16.00 on everything you see on the back of my craft closet door!

I just remembered I spent about $3.00 for these mason jars at Walmart.

But everything else in my closet I already had.

So I have less than $20.00 in my whole closet makeover!

Pretty good!

Some people spend that much money just on one basket!

How are you doing on your closet makeovers?!

I can’t wait to see them.

Two more days until our Closet Makeover Linky Party!

You can do it!!!

Have a blessed day!

Hey, if you want another one…I’m doing an Etsy shop give-away until the end of the week! Come check it out…http://christinasadventures2010.blogspot.com/2011/01/giveaway.html

  2. I’m always amazed at how you can see such potential in items! Some of your Goodwill finds are ones that I think I’d gloss right over, but you do a teriffic job of scouting out some great finds.

  3. Love the fact that you spent so little & made such a big transformation! Love the burlap folder holder & love the little tin cans with the chalkboard labels! Too cute! My closet makeover is coming along! Going to be cutting it close as far as getting it done in time for Friday cuz I am waiting on my dad to cut some shelves for me! Then I still have to prime & paint them! We will see! It will be done by Friday!!! I must believe!!!

  4. Great inspiration! My goal this year is everything has its place…trying to organize! I will use this one:) Have a great day!

  6. Wow! That looks great! I REALLY need to clean out my craft closet. This definitely inspires me! : ) I also have some of those plastic magazine holders like the one I saw in your closet. Mine are all mismatched ones I’ve bought at GW. I’m thinking I might cover them in burlap like you did with your wall pocket. That was a great idea! Thanks for sharing!

  7. I love the burlap idea!!! I will be using that for sure! Those little buckets are adorable too! I will definitely incorporate these creative and fun ideas into my new crafting area! Blessings!

  8. I absolutely love this, and wish that I had *some*where to do this! My command center is in my mudroom and, while functional, it’s not nearly as fun as yours! Thanks for sharing!

  10. The closet accessories (folder holder, buckets and adorable clipboard) look like they came from a designer’s line! Love your creativity on this project; I am duly inspired!

    Best,

  11. I LOVE this idea, considering the fact that my bedroom is the size of a b movie stars walk in closet and all I have is my twin bed, two large tall storage cabinets full of craft supplies and a large book shelf with more supplies this would help with organizing, thanks.

  12. Love it but how did you attach the peg board to the back of the door? I have tried hanging stuff there before but my door is paneled and hollow. :(

  13. How did you hook the pails and the folder holder on to the pegboard??

I am looking to do a project like this. Just wanted to know how.
    Thanks!
