Clipboard Project for my Craft Closet

March 5, 2011 AT 7:16 pm 15 Comments

Hey guys!

Before the weekend is up, I just wanted to share a quick little project with you.  :)

I just spent the whole past week talking about my laundry/mudroom, so I thought I would share something completely different!

Remember the series my sister and I hosted during the month of January?….

And remember when I reorganized my craft closet?

Here are the before and after pictures….

Something I made for that project was my little clipboard.

It was so easy to make.  I’m sure you have seen this done a million different ways in blogland, but here’s how I made mine:

I bought this clipboard for $1.00 at Goodwill, and I already had some scrapbook paper.

When making your clipboard, you do not have to paint the metal clip, but I wanted mine to be black.

In order to keep the paint from scratching off, you need to spray the metal clip with KILZ spray primer first.

After that dried, I sprayed the clip with some black spray paint.

The most difficult part of this project was cutting the paper to fit around the clip.  I actually messed up and had to cut it a second time.  So be sure you have a couple pieces of scrapbook paper you could use in case that happens to you.  :)

I hate to admit that I actually forgot to take a picture of the next step.

But I put a layer of Mod Podge on the clip board with a sponge brush and then laid the two pieces of paper I had chosen on top to dry.

Once it was dry, I put another layer of Mod Podge on the top of the paper.

Here is a picture I found on the internet from www.splitcoaststampers.com that shows this step well…

You can get Mod Podge at Walmart or any craft store.

The only thing left to do was add some ribbon to the clip.  I just used coordinating ribbons and tied them to the clip until I liked the results.

That’s it!

Super easy, but super cute!

This makes for a great teacher gift too.  I think it would look great with a monogram in the middle of the clipboard, don’t you?

So for just a few bucks, I have a cute and unique clipboard!

Why not give this project a try?

Send me pictures if you do! :)

You guys are so amazingly talented, and I love showing off what you’ve been up to. :)

I was so thrilled when Ali sent me an email telling me that she finally finished her bathroom remodel.

She had used my the board and batten tutorial from my laundry room makeover to help with her remodel.

I think the results are gorgeous!
