I Did It!!! {And I still can’t believe it!}

Okay, ladies.

I just had to share with you a huge accomplishment!  Because you are my girls!

I cannot believe I am even saying this, but I ran in the Papa Johns’ 10 Miler in Louisville, KY today!

That is insane!

There were over 9,000 participants.  Such an exciting atmosphere!

It was only 42 degrees out, so we had to dress warmly.

After the first couple of miles, I felt fine.

Me and My Hubby after the race.

We stayed at a hotel on Friday night, and my sister kept the boys for us.  (Thanks, Lou!)

We stayed up until midnight rooting on our Cats who beat #1 seed Ohio State…GO BIG BLUE!!!

Then we got up at 5:00 am for the race.  I was seriously thinking I had lost my mind at that point.

Cy finished in an hour and 24 minutes, and I finished in an hour and 47 minutes.  I was just hoping for around 2 hours, so I beat my goal.  Yeah!!

This was such a huge accomplishment for me because I am not a runner.

If you missed the post from last summer where I wrote about how much I hate to run, you need to read it.

I’m still not crazy about running, but there  is something satisfying about it.

The best part of running for me has been doing something I never thought I could do.

I’ve pushed myself beyond my expectations, and it feels so good.

If you had asked me last year if I would ever run a 10 miler, I would have immediately said, “Heck no!”

Cause I didn’t think I could.

But I can.

And I did!

If I can do it, anyone can do it.

Now I might even consider doing a half-marathon.  I know…I’m crazy!

Well, that’s it.  I just had to share this with you because I was so excited.

I’ve got a great giveaway on Monday that I am so excited about, so be sure to stop back by.

Have a blessed Sunday, friends!

  1. I am SO SO proud of you, Traci. You’ve done something that I could never do, and I admire anyone with that amount of discipline! What an accomplishment! Shout it from the rooftops!

  2. Great job Traci! You are inspiring! I’m happy for you and for our Cats! I hope they stay in it to the final four! By the way, I think I saw you today at Brannon Crossing? Maybe? I was going to Hobby Lobby. Congratulations on your accomplishment! Gail

  3. Traci, YOU ROCK! That is an awesome accomplishment, and I am SO proud of you. I think the best part is that you came in so close behind your husband, and you are not even a runner!

    Great job, lady, great job!

    Best,

    Kimberly

  4. WHOOO HOOOO!!!!!!! :) That is so wonderful!!! I’m so proud of you!!!

And that’s what you look like POST run? (I never look that put-together!)

Keep up the good work! The half-marathon will be a breeze, then!

  5. Well Done Traci, that is such an achievement, no wonder you are excited, I will watch your blog to see when you complete the half marathon.

  6. Congratulations! What an incredible accomplishment and probably even better since you were able to do this with your husband.
My husband is currently training for a half-marathon–I do think that sounds a bit crazy:)

  7. Congratulations! What an accomplishment! You should be very proud ! (Thankfully, we won’t have to stay up so late to watch the Cats tonight!) :-)

  8. Congratulations!! I totally know how you feel because I was never a runner until about 10 years ago. I had tried to run several times before, but something finally “clicked” and I was hooked. Running is a great way to clear my head, release stress, and just refocus and re-energize. Since I started running, I have run five marathons, lots of half-marathons and all sorts of distances in between. Running is so much mental as it is physical, and I’m a firm believer in that you can do anything you set your MIND to doing! Good for you! I’m training for a half-marathon in Indy currently, and with 10 miles under your belt, you’re practically THERE girlfriend! Go for it! :-)

  9. Hey!
Congratulations! I ran that race a few years ago. When I was running over that last little bridge I thought I wouldn’t make it, but entering the stadium gave me fresh wind!
    Great job!!

  10. So proud of you!!! I remember how I felt when I did my first 10k – it is such an accomplishment!! I have a mixed reaction to running too. Once I get into it I am fine. But getting started up is killer! I am seriously considering signing up for the Nashville half marathon next April just to give myself a post baby workout goal!

  11. Awesome!! It must be a great feeling to accomplish something so great! I am just getting back into walking so running definatly seems out of reach right now but perhaps in a few month I will attemp the same (starting with 1 mile mind you!!) Thanks for sharing!

  12. Awesome! You will surprise yourself….I had no running background, but I have done about 15 half marathons and 3 marathons! There is something about the race atmosphere that is almost addicting. Congratulations!

  13. Congratulations to you!! I, too, have a love/hate relationship with running. I always feel and look better when I’m on a running kick, but then something inevitably happens to get me off track for a week or two and then it’s down the tubes. HOWEVER….after I have my sweet little girl in June, my running shoes WILL be back on and I’m running a 5k before winter comes! Nothing burns fat for me like running!

  14. Congratulations on your accomplishment. I have 2 daughters who run marathons, and I see how wonderfully satisfying it is for them. It can be addicting too, so WATCH OUT! He he he Have a wonderful day and enjoy! – It’s your time to shine! Sandi

  15. Congratulations!! I just did a post today mentioning how my husband just finished his second marathon! I recently just decided that I would like to run a 5K by the end of the year….and I am not a runner at all. Your post just added to the motivation that I need to accomplish something that I never thought I would! Congratulations!!

  16. Wow! Traci, that is SO cool. I am not a runner either – I always feel like such a dork when I run! And, as you said, it’s painful and boring – painfully boring. Along with a few of my friends, you have inspired me. One of my friends used the Couch-to-5K method to prepare for a 5K and that’s where I’m headed. I have two coming in June that I want to do and more…I’m 46 years old, overweight and smoker but this has secretly been a goal of mine – even though I absolutely HATE running (I know hate is a strong word but…). Soooo, the benefits will DEFINITELY outweigh the alternatives for me. Looking forward to running now ;)

    Thanks for sharing!

  17. Yay, congrats, friend!! That is an amazing accomplishment! I am still working on being able to run a 5k, so this definitely inspires me! :)

  18. Great accomplishment!!!! And, now to cheer for our CATS!!!
Best wishes from another crazed UK fan that bleeds blue!! GO BIG BLUE!!!!

  19. WOW!!! What a GREAT acoomplishment!! I too HATE to run & my hubby (like yours) LOVES it! (I’m into biking, especially mountain biking!!) I totally understand how hard this must’ve been for you to stick with it. What a great testiment to your boys to always give your best no matter the challenge & not quit!! Hooray for you!!

  20. woohooo! I’m glad you did it! I’m thinking that was the second leg of our (l’ville) triple crown. :) It WAS cold, wasn’t it. I saw the local coverage yesterday morning, and the guy was standing at the line for the port-a-potty! hehehe
I hope you enjoyed your time here in my ole hometown!

  21. Way to go!! That is a wonderful accomplishment!! I am a firm believer that everything is possible!! One of my goals for 2011 is to run a 5k race. I have never run before however I recently started “getting healthy”/training. Thanks for the inspiration!

  22. Go, Traci!!

I have a goal to run a half marathon by my 30th birthday [2 years from today!]. I’d love to do one this summer!!

    Have a great week!

    Rebecca

  23. Congratulations!!!! How fantastic! I ran a long, long time ago (high school) and have tried (unsuccessfully!) to start running again so I can imagine the great feeling you must have right now! I’m so happy for you. What a great example for your boys, too- a strong, healthy mom and dad doing things together. Congrats!!!!

  24. Congrats!!! I just started running last year, and I am doing a half marathon on May 1st. I still wouldn’t say that I like it either – but it sure is satisfying!

  25. Tracy-
WAY TO GO!!!!! I know what you mean about hating running, yet feeling satisfied from it. I ran my first half-marathon this past October in Louisville. I couldn’t believe I did it and it felt so good!
My husband ran the Papa John’s 10-miler as well! He finished in 68 minutes – so proud of him! He is running the Derby Half-Marathon with a team from his company in April. I was going to run, but the registration closed before I signed up! Keep at it, girl!!!

  26. Oh my Gosh! You go Traci!!! I definitely see a WHOLE marathon in your future–keep up the good work. It’s so wonderful to also see a couple doing something together–it’s so inspiring!

  27. I am SO PROUD of you!! That’s really awesome, Traci! I could probably run a mile if someone were holding a gun to my head. A few years ago (back when I was your age!), I tried running a bit–I worked up the point that I could run 2-3 miles. But I never got to the point that I enjoyed it at all. That’s too bad, really, because it’s such great exercise. But YOU! You stuck with it and now look at you!! You are setting a great example for all of us. Even those of us who aren’t runners can be inspired by your initiative and your courage to stick with a form of exercise. You make me want to get up from the computer and get my body moving! :)

    CONGRATULATIONS!!

  28. What a huge accomplishment. That’s something I would tell myself I could never do. Also a good way to spend quality time with your husband!

  29. Fabulous work! My friend ran in that race! I live in the J-town area of Louisville, so we’re neighbors! :) I need to get back in shape and run, but oh how I hate it! Yeah for you!
