An Inspiring Outdoor Space by Rhoda from Southern Hospitality!

Hopefully the weather is finally starting to warm up in your neck of the woods.

We are warming up a bit here in Kentucky, but soaking wet!  I cannot believe all the spring storms we have had this year.

Well, rain or shine, it’s Spring!  It’s time to start pretty-ing up your outdoor spaces.

Need some inspiration?  Well, here it is!

I am so excited to share with you a great Outdoor Space Makeover today!

Provided by the fabulous Rhoda, from Southern Hospitality.

I met Rhoda two years ago at Blissdom.  She is my angel.  (You’ll have to read my post at Rhoda’s today to find out why.)

She is the most caring and considerate blogger ever!  She is always thinking of others more than herself.  I love that about her.

She was my mom’s favorite blog, and I know why.  She is super talented, super creative, and oooozing with southern graciousness.  I am so excited to share some of her talent with you today.

Rhoda turned her deck from “drab to fab” last year, and you have to see it to believe it!

Rhoda had a deck, I’m sure, like many of yours.  It was not an extremely large space, but it was enough of a space to spruce up and make more inviting.

Here is the before picture of her deck…

This wasn’t a space that beckoned Rhoda to come outside, relax, and sip on sweet tea.

She found that great umbrella at a yard sale, and it got her juices flowing to create a more beautiful outdoor space.

Look at it now!

Wow!  Isn’t it amazing?! It’s hard to believe it is the same place!

I would want to sit out on this deck every night.

One of the best additions to the deck, was the DIY shutters that Rhoda made.

Yep.  She made them.  She is truly amazing!

You can find her tutorial of how to make them, HERE.

Rhoda did purchase her wicker furniture (at a great price), but the rest of her accessories are mostly from garage sales or from around her home.  I love that!

She proves my theory that it doesn’t have to be expensive to be beautiful!

She got a great deal on this gorgeous rug too.  I love the way it defines the space.  The colors are perfect.

The little table between the two chairs got a fresh coat of spray paint to make it look like brand new.

Rhoda also tried her hand at sewing and did a great job on these pillows.  Don’t you love those colors?!

Let’s take one more look at this beautiful outdoor space.

  1. Hey, Traci! I’m so happy we are blog swapping today! You’re such a sweet friend and I don’t know why we didn’t do this before now. I love your projects & this one is a fantastic one. Outdoor spaces really make you want to spend more time out there soaking up the sunshine. Hugs, my friend!

  2. Traci and Rhoda,

Love Rhoda’s transformation. The color theme is gorgeous; love the bright green against the brown. The DIY shutter is my favorite piece. Only Rhoda could create so much and spend so little! Loved both of your guest posts.

    Your Friend,
    Deborah

  3. I just want to tell you that I’ve followed you for a while, but sometimes I’m shy with comments :)
Rhoda, who is a bloggie friend of mine, too, would tell you differently as I’m always writing crazy, silly stuff there, but sometimes I’m still shy.

    But, no more.

I have so much so enjoyed reading your blog, from your projects to the wonderful things about your family. I love, love, LOVED the video of your son singing Amazing Grace. I was so very sorry to read about your Mother passing, but I know in my heart of hearts that she would be SO PROUD of you and this blog and how you are living your life as a mother, Christian, wife and blog star!!!! :)

Did I read correctly that you are in Kentucky??????

I’m in Alabama now, having prayed for years to move back to the South from Washington, DC.

Well, actually, I’m in ITALY right now until October. Yes, Italy. My husband is an analyst for the gvt and also a Naval officer back on active duty and me and my 3 kids were so blessed to be able to go with him on this journey as we LOVE ITALY~! Sometimes it’s hard traveling with kids, but the blessings outweigh the bad parts. We’re coming back home in Oct., and then in Dec., he’s going to be serving God/country again in Afghanistan, and, alas, we can’t go with him there :(

But, anyway……back to Kentucky. Despite our world travels, I’m a Kentucky gal/born & raised, little Southern Baptist girl and my family’s still all there and we’re SO THANKFUL that AL is so much closer to home than the other places we’ve lived!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kentucky with all my heart.

    Well, I should go.

But, one last thing–I always meant to write to you about this, but, alas, life has always been so crazy, but….I really want to encourage your son in the area of music ministry. God blessed me and opened doors for me to be signed to a Christian record label (this was a decade ago) where Barlow Girl/DC Talk musician Otto Price, etc., helped me with my first CD. Sometimes I miss singing/touring, but when we decided to have more kids (my youngest two are only 5 & 8) I knew that they had to come first, so no more touring for me, but I feel peace and joy being a wife and mom and writer (I write a ton of interior design articles for various magazines and newspapers–maybe I’ll interview you sometime!!!) although music is so important to me.

Music also must mean so much to your son. I know he’s a boy’s boy (like mine!) but you could tell with the way he sings that he’s singing with his whole heart. He’s just amazing. I just really want to encourage him and his talent, and most importantly, his HEART for God/music/serving God through music.

He has the ability to touch people in a way that will be life-changing.

Well, this is the longest blog comment EVER!!! Sorry!!!!!

Thank you for being such a blessing to all who read you and if you’re a friend of Rhoda’s, you’re a friend of mine! I’m getting ready to email her right now!!!!!!!

MANY blessings to you and your precious family,
    Lana

  4. Traci — I LOVE your patio makeover over at Rhoda’s blog! I can’t even tell you how excited I am right now because I think {stained to look like tile} this is exactly what our patio is needing! PLUS, I have those exact same urns and everything I put in them keeps dying so I’m going to give the ferns a shot! Thank you so much for sharing! Btw, Love your blog girl! XOXO

  5. Love the green shutters! I have been sprucing up my back porch, and I have to borrow your idea. Thanks for all the great ideas and inspiration!

  6. Hey girl. . . you and Rhoda–what a great pair of swappers! :) I love Rhoda’s deck and your porch, and the two of you could mix and match accessories, couldn’t you? Her stuff would look great in your space and vice versa.

Hope y’all had a blessed Easter. Would you believe Jack was able to go to church? It was a triumph! He was tired the rest of the day, but it was so worth it.

    Love you!

  7. Traci, I just had to drop by your blog and say thank you for all of the wonderful tutorials and ideas you have shared with all of us in blogland. I found you in January when I was snowed in my house and could not get out, Atlanta was frozen for a week and I learned how to organize my coat closet, my food pantry, and laundry room. LOL :-)
I also was introduced to Rhoda through your blog then, also. You both are awesome women of GRACE and I have been blessed by your blogs. Just wanted to encourage and say thanks!!!
