We Sold Our Home! {Mostly}

Okay, girls!

Ya’ll know I have to keep you updated on things.

Well, today we signed a contract on the sale of our home.

However, it is still pending the inspection of our home and the sale of the purchaser’s home.

So, it is not 100% just yet.

If it does work out, I will have to tell you the story of how we sold it, (since we had taken it off the market).

It’s pretty funny and unbelievable!

I have very mixed feelings.

I don’t want to move.

I love this home.

This is the home that I was hoping my grandchildren would someday come visit me in.

But unfortunately, we do not live in the school district that we are wanting our oldest son, Jonathan, to attend next year in middle school.

(Having a kid going to middle school next year is a whole other issue in my life that I am not even going to discuss right now!) :)

So we have to move.

I am a basket full of emotions, and my nerves are  a little shot thinking of all that lies ahead of us in the next few months as we prepare to move and try to find a place to live.

So I am clinging to this verse right now:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”

Proverbs 3:5,6

And this verse:

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord.  Plans to prosper you, not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me, and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Jeremiah 29:11-13

I know above all things that God is watching over my family.

So I will trust in Him.

I will keep you updated on any changes.

Have a blessed weekend!

  1. Wow … that is a basket full of emotions. I’m so glad you know where to put your trust, but I’ll still be praying for you during this transitional time. Change can be so hard … and it can also lead to so much wonderful. Here’s to lots of wonderful on the other side :).

    Blessings!!

  2. We’ve had to move for the right school too. It makes such a difference in the middle/high school years. Change is so hard but I’m way excited for you to have a new house. For selfish reasons since I want to see what you do to decorate it!

  3. Hi. I just found your blog and I love it! YOu ahve some really great projects and ideas!

I love both those verses you shared. That verse in Jeremiah is perfect for me right now. We have been dealing with needing to move and not knowing where we should go exactly…long story short, we decided to stay in the area we are in even though at first glance it’s not convenient and doesn’t have all the things I think I want for our family. BUT…it just feels like the right thing to do. We feel really good about the decision. The future the Lord has for us might be so different than what we think we want, but it is always, always, better! Good luck to you!

  4. I know the Lord has everything in His plan and He will guide you where you need to be. I am sure He will Bless you for your precious loving heart and your willingness to rely on Him. God Bless Hugs, Marty

  5. You know, we’ve been dealing with the possibility of moving to 2 VERY different places from where we live and what I tell my husband is – you can make a great home anywhere you go. The place might be different, and the surroundings, people, buildings, etc. might be too, but I fully believe that, and you definitely have the ability to make anywhere your family lives a wonderful home for them.

  6. I’m a newer reader to your blog and I just have to day that sometimes doing what the Lord wants us to do is scary and challenging. Take heart in knowing that you are doing what is best for your family. I just wanted to give you a little encouragement since you have given so much inspiration to all your blog readers out there.

  7. Thanks for sharing those great verses from scripture!

    Another great verse = Matthew 6: 25, 26
Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing: “Look at the birds of the air for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

What a great comfort to know the Lord is watching over us!

Moving can be scary, I know I’ve done it many times, but it also can be fun. You will get another new house to decorate and make improvements to. Hugs and prayers for you and your family.

  8. I am sure this has been thrown out to you already but I have to ask… Can you pay for him to go to the better school? Here in TX we can pay to go to another ISD for whatever reason. I had friends that paid for their child to attend the new school before they offically bought a house in the ISD. Before that they paid to have the child go to a closer school in a town 5 min down the road instead of my town’s schools 20 min away (yeah we have WEIRD discrict lines here!) And of course other friends pay for their child to go to the ‘better schools’ around here.

I am so glad we homeschool! This would be a nightmare for us as we hate our ISD and would not let our kids attend any schools in it.

Hope your house dreams because reality!
    blessings,
    Mrs T

  9. “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland” (Isa. 43:19).

I love the ‘adventures” planned by the Lord!

  10. Wow! That’s great in this market, but moving is always hard. You were wondering how it would all work out, and this is probably the Lord just nudging you in the right direction. Can’t wait to hear all the details…

  11. God bless you and may you have a wonderful Spring!
Life is full of adventure and with God it will be an enriching one.

Traci, in a few years as you take a look back at what you’re going through….you’ll see God’s hands all over this time. Just you wait!

    Sweet thoughts,

  12. Traci,
I will be praying for a smooth transition for your in the house move and middle school entry. Email me if you need to talk about middle school fears. We JUST went through it and are surviving (thriving really!) Often it is hard to understand the blessing we are being given when in the midst of them. Remembering He has a plan is so important. Love the verses you are focusing on. I copied them to print out for above my desk!

I recently found this section of a hymn among my great grandmother’s papers.
God hath not promised skies always blue,
    Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
    Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

    XOXO, Amy

  13. Praying for a smooth transaction. My oldest is attending middle school in the fall and I have such a bag of mixed emotions. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one. Everybody around me acts like it’s no big deal.

  14. Wow! How exciting to buy a new home! I understand the emotions of moving from a home you love so much. And you’re absolutely right…God will take care of everything!!

  15. Congratulations, Traci! It’s an exciting time of life. And middle school . . . I’ve been there three times (youngest is in 7th grade right now) and it’s really hard at times. But a real faith-building time for them (and for the parents). I look at it as a roller-coaster ride—it has its ups and downs, but mostly you just hang on for dear life. High school gets much better. :)

  16. Wow! That happend fast, and right when I found out we were neighbors! I sure do hope everything works out for you and I know it will! Here’s another verse that has always been a favorite of mine. Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Blessings, Gail

  17. I will keep your family on my prayer list and for the Holy Spirit to lead your path.
In reading your post – I wanted to share this – my son is 31 and daughter is 25 and worrying about middle school was a drop in the ocean compared to preparing for college – but I understand that each phase we go through seems so daunting to us at the time and making the right decisions for our children and family so monumental. I too thought moving was the right thing, from Chicago to Albuquerque in 1996 with a 16 year old and a 10 year old. I wanted them to have opportunities that living in Chicago wouldn’t give us. My son went back to Chicago almost as soon as we unpacked to live with relatives and finish high school in Chicago and our daughter is heading back to Chicago to finish her Graduate degree. As she told us recently, I was 10 and didn’t have a choice to go or not – I didn’t want to go, so I will be heading back to start my career and life.
I pray for your wonderful outcome – with selling, finding a new place to call home and your schooling decisions.

  18. (sqeal!!!) I’m so excited for you having a buyer!!! It’ll be a little tough at first, but having your sons go to a nice middle school has got to be worth it! I’ll be praying for these next several months for y’all to find the home God has for you! :) Thanks for keeping us posted!!

  19. My youngest (also a boy) is headed off to middle school next yr! Whatever happens, the Lord Knows and has your (and your sons) lifestories already written. I know you trust Him, but sometimes it is just easier to worry. Take it from me! Talk to Him first.;)

  20. We moved from a home I loved when my oldest was going into first grade, to get him into a better school district. I was sad at the time but it was all good and many wonderful things happenned to us in our new home which I adore. That was in 1984. Now he is married with 2 sons and my youngest is turning 30 in 2 weeks. Time flies!

  21. I hate the high taxes we have to pay, but I love Michigan’s “school of choice”. My friends get to send their kids to the school district in the area they want without having to move. It did get a lil sticky last year when a basketball player changed schools for a few months to be on a playoff team & then switched back to her hometown school & they wouldn’t let her graduate with her class.

  22. How bittersweet!! Congratulations!! Cling tight to those verses because God does have a plan for all of us!! Can’t wait to read about your house hunting adventures & can’t wait too see all the upcoming projects you will have to work & write about!!

  23. Aww Congrats Traci!!!!! I know your emotions are just wacky right now, happy and then sad. But girl, you have the right two scriptures to cling on to right now. THOSE ARE MY FAVORITES! Especially Proverbs3: 5-6!! :)

I know it will al work out for you. I will be excited to hear more news. We are contemplating putting our house up for sale in the next year or so. We want to size down some. I love looking at your blog for all the great inspiration.

  24. That farmhouse could be waiting for you after all… one never knows. :)

Congrats AND I feel for you. My son is entering middle school as well come Sept. I debated on moving closer to the school than we are now (I’m fine with the school), but man… that’s quite a reason to move isn’t it?!? So not ready for that.

  25. Thank you for sharing! We are moving for the same school reason. Our middle daughter will not be able to attend the same elementary school as our son. It’s a mess with the TX state budget shortfall. So we’ve listed our house for 3 weeks only 1 showing….. things aren’t looking so hot.

Thanks for the verses it was exactly what I needed to hear.

Blessings to your family as you prepare your move. I look forward to reading about the adventure.

  26. Thank you for sharing those verses of scripture. I needed the reminder. My husband is finishing school finally in may and we are planning for big changes or possible relocation as well. I don’t want to leave either. I too have to trust the Lord that He will direct our paths, as He always had. Thank you again. Cami

  27. GIRL. TOTALLY understand. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. Our home is not in the section we want for our oldest son, who starts kindergarten next year, and it’s killing me. UGH. It’s just never ending and scary…so my prayers are with you guys!

  28. Thanks for the reminder of those beautiful verses! Things have been a little crazy lately in my life and reading those verses brought everything back to where it needs to be. I need to give it over to the Lord and place my complete trust in Him. Thanks again for the remembrance of God’s promises! Praying blessings for you in the sale of your home. It is so exciting to see what God has for you around the corner…He is in control!

  29. Congrats on your pending sale! I am excited for you but I totally understand the gut-wrenching part. Our goal date to list our home is the end of this month. I am super nervous but it’s only my husband and I so I certainly have less to take care of. Here’s to new homes and new neighbors to turn into friends!
