We’ve Broken Ground!!

I told you in an earlier post that we were making room for a new addition to our home.

I have since learned that some of you had this vision in your head when you read that title…

OH, MY!!!

Ya’ll are so, so silly!

Though very adorable, that is NOT the “addition” I was talking about!  :)

I was referring to the kind of “addition” you see ON a home. (This is NOT my home.)

Now that we have made that CLEAR, I am so excited to announce that we have broken ground!!!

We rented one of these big, honkin’ machines…

That’s my honey playing with his new big toy!  He didn’t even make it out of his dress pants when he came home from the bank before he had jumped on that bad boy!

But Cy wasn’t actually going to dig the footer himself.  We left that to some very handy friends of ours.

First, the big cedar tree stump had to be removed.

This actually took quite a while.  Those roots ran very deep, but we finally got it out!

Next up, it was time to remove the concrete slab patio.

That was very interesting to watch. :)

Once it was removed, it had to be broken up and moved…

Adam watched safely from inside the house.  The boys thought this process was soooo cool!

(That is not a real snake at Adam’s feet, although we DO have a ton of them outside of our home!  One of the perks of having 5 acres.)  :)

After the ground was completely cleared, the footer was dug.

It’s quite a drop off!

It is so exciting to see this start to take place.

I will warn you, though, we will not be starting immediate construction of our new addition.

Baby steps, people.

We are going to try and build up our building supplies a little at a time (when money becomes available) until we have enough to start building.

Several of you have asked to see blueprints of what our addition will look like added to our ranch home.  Right now, we do not have any. :)

That’s how we roll…

But we have a friend who is an architect, and we’ve worked up a little deal with him.

My husband is going to fix some parts on his jeep in exchange for some blueprints made up of our home addition!

So hopefully, I will be able to share with you what are plans are going to look like.

Until then….

Have a blessed day!

Oh yeah!

I almost forgot!

Don’t forget my Best DIY Projects of July linky party coming up on July 31st!

Hope to see you there!

  1. You little stinker! You knew that ‘someone’ was me. My imagination just runs wild! :)
I’m so happy for you getting to add on to your home and y’all are going about it the right way. So many folks go hog wild and get head over hills in debt! You’re being good stewards. :)
    You’re a sweetie,
    shelia ;)

  2. So cool! It must be driving you nuts in anticipation for the new addition. But like you said patience. Thanks for sharing all these cool projects and re-do’s.

    Till then, God Bless!

  3. My mind is full on babies lately because everyone I know is pregnant, so that was the first thing I thought when I saw your tweet but I quickly realized you were talking about your house. That has to be the best entertainment EVER for your boys. Those big “toys” right outside their window! And so exciting for you. I can’t wait to see the process and the end result!

  4. Tracy, I am so happy for you. I have been reading your blog for a little over a year but have never left a comment. You are such an inspiration to me. I started reading the week before your mom passed. Your trust and love for God is so inspiring. I sat an cried as I read about your father re-marrying and your feelings. I just wish you all the best on this future project.

  5. Not THAT kind of addition, huh?! Whew!! I break out in a cold sweat if I even have one tiny symptom that could ever-possibly-in-a-million-years seem like pregnancy.

Anyway, I’m so happy for your to have broken ground on your addition! That’s so exciting. How are y’all making it in your much smaller house right now? Do you feel crowded, or is it kind of nice not having so much space to take care of?

  6. Looking forward to seeing the whole process, even if it is long and slow! We’re about to move into our new (very old) house (in 2 days!!) so we’ll be doing a lot of long drawn-out renovations and maybe additions ourselves. It may take us 20 years or so to get it right, but that’s how these things work in the real world!

  7. Yay!!! I am super excited for you Traci! You have so much to look forward to. I love, love, love your property.
I also got you sweet e-card. Thank YOU my dear friend for considering me to guest-blog for you. THat made my entire year!
    xoxo,
    Kim

  8. how exciting. it is a fantastic experience to see your plans take fruitition and totally worth the wait when you are sitting in the finished building or room. our house was built 2 years ago, it took two years to build and like you a lot of our friends helped out.

  9. Did you keep any of the tree stumps? Cut them straight across and paint them white or any color, they make great coffee tables….Seen this idea on a blog the other day but can’t remember which one. I am on the search for some myself.Just an idea… :)

  10. Congratulations! How exciting for all of you. Looks like we are downsizing into a smaller home too and am excited to see your ideas. –not excited to hear about your “ton” of snakes. :(

  11. 5 acres is definitely a perk! However, I’m not sure I agree that 5 acres worth of snakes is a perk! Maybe for little boys, but certainly not for me! Can’t wait to see as your project comes along.
