Y’all Are Gonna Die When You See What We’ve Done To Our Kitchen Now!

Oh my good golly, Y’all!

I was looking through the pictures that I was getting ready to upload into this post, and I couldn’t help but laugh at myself!

I seriously laughed out loud.

Ladies, I’ve got issues!

Can we just step back one more time and look at what my kitchen looked like just a few weeks ago?…  (Remember I was just going to paint those brown cabinets white.)

And here we are today….

kitchen 015

Are you laughing with me?

(or are you laughing AT me?)

It’s okay.  I deserve it.

I just wanted to paint the cabinets white.

We have now ripped up all the brick linoleum (that I know y’all have been coveting), and we are getting ready to install hard wood flooring.

Which explains the big pile of wood planks on my fireplace…

Doesn’t my den look lovely?

All I can do now is laugh.

And cry a little.

I guess I am sort of doing a crying-laugh.

You know the laugh someone does right before they slowly slip off into insanity?

Yep.  That’s the one.

But we will persevere!

We will not give up or give in!

I’m the one who created this mess, and I am going to fix it.  (Well, actually my husband is going to fix it.)

I owe him big time.

I might not live this one down for quite sometime.

This “little” sprucing up of the kitchen will probably be brought up at the dinner table at many a family get-together.  Smile

But it will be FABULOUS when it is done!  (At least that is what I hope.)  So taunt me all you want!

I wanted to thank you for following the madness.  You are making this so much fun for me.

I love your comments.  I love interacting with you through facebook and twitter.

Which reminds me….

if you do not follow me on twitter or facebook yet, you need to.

(Okay, maybe you don’t need to, but I would love it if you would.)

I’ve been posting updates and sneak peeks about my kitchen renovation on both facebook and twitter.

  1. I’ll admit it, you got a good chuckle out of me when I saw the “in progress” pic :P I love that inspiration pic! I already am not-so-secretly coveting your pantry… ;)

  2. Can’t wait to see the finished project. Yep it gets overwhelming, but just put one foot in front of the other (or toe, or hand or whatever’s required) and keep looking at your inspiration pic. Once it’s done, you’ll be amazed how fast it went and how much you accomplished. I personally think the white on the walls looks nice, even with what will soon be white cabinets. I painted my walls Sherwin Williams rice grain which is just enough of a warm color to make white cabinets pop. I really like it too. Best of luck and I’ll be watching for the reveal. Kuddos to the helpful, indulging hubby too.

  3. Your kitchen will be gorgeous once it’s done! You’ll have the last laugh once everyone sees how beautiful it is!! I am very impressed with how much you’ve gotten done so quickly- you’re inspiring me to get off my butt and finish some projects around my house!

  4. Girl you are a one woman demolition team!! I love your gusto!! I know it’s going to be gorgeous!! What color did you paint the walls? I think you’ve inspired me to repaint my kitchen =)

  5. Wow, and I thought I was bad.LOL It’s going to be beautiful just beautiful! My diningroom table still has some drawers piled on it, we eat dinner on half of the table:) I’m loving the transformation and I know you are loving yours too!

  6. It kinda reminds me of “When You Give a Mouse a Cookie”…. :) It’s already beautiful, sweet Traci! You’ll love it when it’s done and you’re making great memories along the way!

  7. Wow! You have one heck of a husband. Mine would have met his maker by now. What a nice Christmas present you will have. Hopefully it’s not your turn to do Thanksgiving dinner! LOL!

  8. Oh I cannot wait to see the finished product and everything come together, you and your hubby have made amazing progress.. Seems it will be done in no time! Keep up the good work and persevering! :)

  9. The inspiration picture is beautiful…and exactly what I picture your “new” kitchen looking like! Please come to my house and help me…please? I have 3 under 4 and I don’t have time to paint my toenails let alone tackle projects. You are so inspirational! Can’t wait to see the finished result!

  10. LOL! I saw that post title & I was all over it!! Couldn’t wait to see what had done now! Isn’t that the way it always goes….it always starts as a small little thing & then it turns into a big huge ordeal!! The new flooring is gonna look fabulous though!! Can’t wait to see!!

  11. you r so very brave!!!
It takes a great deal of vision to plow ahead when the area is all messed up.
I can see it coming together and you guys otta be really pleased to have accomplished so much so quickly.
It’s gonna be great when completed….absolutely great!

God bless and may you have a splendid Thanksgiving.
    Much to be thankful for,
    d

  12. That is one strong marriage, girlfriend! :) This is the material that keeps it all alive! I am quite certain your finished product will be pinned over and over again before too long!

  13. Wow, I can’t wait to the end result! I love that pantry too. I pulled the “let’s paint the cabinets and ended up with the same result. Howev er, my husband talked me into cherry cabinets, not bad looking, just not bright and cheery like I had hoped. I am trying to talk him into painting again (not working for me yet?)Well that was only 3 years ago :) That inspiration picture is really gorgeous. Have a wonderful day.

  14. Ok, I’m laughing with you because I’ve done the same thing. Several times actually. I think the “sprucing up” looks fantastic and can’t wait to see the finished product.

  15. I’m totally living vicariously through you with all of this. I would LOVE to rip out our kitchen & make it beautiful, but can’t ’cause we rent. Your kitchen is going to end up looking so amazing. I’m seriously so excited for you!

  16. Traci, I just love it! It’s going to be gorgeous! I can’t help but wonder though, are you going to be cooking Thanksgiving at your house this year?
    V

  17. It’s going to be great! The bigger the mess, the bigger the payoff, right? ;-). I love it when a project takes on a life of its own. You have vision, and it will become a reality! I can’t wait to see how it all comes together!

  18. Oh, I am laughing, but only because this is totally something that would happen to me. I call it “project scope creep.”
Your kitchen is going to be gorgeous when you’re done!

  19. I love watching what you do! So cool that your husband can do all that!
You give me inspiration when my house is just messy from normal living! ha!
It is so going to be worth it!

  20. Haha! This is what my kitchen looked like a year ago! But you know what, it’s going to look AMAZING when you are done! I cannot wait to see the complete before/after shots!!! Keep at it & just go out to eat as much as you can in the meantime!

  21. My husband would have killed me! He is a saint….but seriously, it looks FANTASTIC!

Last spring I said, can we remove the upper cabinet that separates the kitchen from the breakfast area, and btw, can we move the washer/dryer to the basement and convert the too small laundry room to a giant pantry????? I love it but what a mess.

  22. Tracy-it will be well worth it when it is done. It is amazing that your husband is able to complete all those projects!! I’m guessing you won’t be hosting Thanksgiving dinner.Lol
I love the inspiration pic and look forward to seeing what it will look like when it’s completed.
    Ruth

  23. Traci,
I so enjoy your blog and watching the kitchen transformation. I really like the new pantry…
My suggestion though is to apply a opaque to inside windows, in time you will drive yourself crazy keeping it neat, organized and clean. Realistically unless you live alone… IMPOSSIBLE!

    Happy Thanksgiving.

    Marlene

  24. oh wow! this is going to be amazing! I am excited for you! and crying with you at the same time. I would just die having my kitchen in that state a week before Thanksgiving. Kuddos to you and your hubby!! I will be well worth it Im sure.

  25. LOVE IT!! I was secretly hoping you’d re-do your floors since basically everything else in the kitchen is getting a make-over! The floor’s feelings would have been hurt if it was left out of the chaos…now it’s gonna feel the love! Can I just say your kitchen is going to look freaking AWESOME! With every project, this new-to-you house is becoming YOUR HOME! Your family is going to make so many wonderful memories there as your boys grow up (even the funny, messy, crazy memories!). And the kitchen is the heart of the home! Keep up the great work! LOVE the updates! Laugh…cry…and give your husband extra hugs for his work! :)

  26. I absolutely LOVE the way your kitchen looks right now. (makes me feel just the tiniest better about my messy kitchen ;) I have so enjoyed watching your home renovation and reading your blog. I appreciate the spiritual aspect you bring to so many of your posts. Thanks for the great place to come visit each day. :)

  27. I, for one am not laughing. Since we moved to our new (to us) home four months ago there were times every room in the entire house was torn up. Some rooms have now been tamed and are taking shape, others are still in “stages”. Not one room is completed as I imagine but it will happen over time and with money. There always is a catch, isn’t there? Smile. You will succeed!

  28. MY excitement’s building for your project and its completion, so I can imagine how excited you are :) I love how bright it looks already. You all are doing a great job, Traci!

  29. oh, but once the kitchen is done everything else in the house will be a cinch! and you’ll have the beautiful kitchen in which to retreat if it’s not. :)

  30. You know you’re going to need a much longer island now, right? With new bar stools (one for each family member) and lots of cabinet space underneath. And electrical outlets! And one of those pop-up shelves for your mixer.

Ha ha ha ha ha! (evil laugh)

Living vicariously through you, girl. Keep going!

  31. I am not laughing at you, I am pea green with envy. :) I am so excited to see the final results (probably not as much as you are) because I so want to get rid of my bright (lots of light) but contractor ugly kitchen. I’m watching you, and loving the inspiriation you are giving me.

  32. Oh, my sweet friend, this is hilarious! Actually, I think you’re smart to just go for it. You can use your sprayer and just go to town on all those cupboards without worrying about getting paint on the floor. Right? :)

So, Traci. . . are you hosting Thanksgiving at your house this year?

  33. Yes, I’m sure this will be talked about for years – probably into the next generation. You’re not only creating a beautiful home, but great memories, a good work ethic, and lots of fun for your boys. I can imagine them sharing that “sanding the stairs” video with their children and grandchildren.

  34. Oh, honey! You can come over to my house and “just paint the kitchen cupboards” anytime you want to!!!! It’s going to be just beautiful, and I can’t wait to see your kitchen when it is all finished. Green with envy!!!

  35. Hi Traci, Yes, I can hear that little sicko laugh/cry come out of your mouth!! Only because I have heard the same sound come out of my mouth just before I’ve “gone over the edge”!! Your project looks great, and by the way…when the next time comes to license your vehicle, you might consider getting a plate that reads, “IOU CY”. You’ve got a “keeper” there, but I’m sure you already know that. Linda S. in NE

  36. WOW you are one crazy lady…in the BEST possible sense! I gasped out loud at the before and now pic. I can’t believe how amazing it looks without even being finished! Your husband is a saint ;-). I can’t wait for the finished product. So happy for you and excited with you!

  37. It looks incredible, even unfinished! :) I can’t wait to see the finish product, and that ceiling how amazing is that? Good Work, I love your vision!

  38. You remind me so much of ME!! Love looking at the progress you have made. Showed my hubby your pantry since we have the wall space to do that to ours. He looked at me and said, “Oh no! You’ve got that look in your eye!” Keep up the good work! Looks great!

  39. Don’t fret, it’s all going to be OK! You inspired me to demolish the bulkhead above our cabinets. I’ve been wanting to do it forever, but I was chicken. And, yes, that led us down the path to a major remodel. :) Love your idea for the expanded pantry and, of course, the white cabinets! Keep on truckin’!

  40. Oh this does my heart good to see these pictures of your house upside down during reno. I thought mine was the only one that looked like that! I am redoing a wall in my kitchen (the other half of the reno I did this summer). My house looks like someone picked it up and shaked it! Can’t wait to see it all finished. (Yours and mine!)

  41. Would you mind telling me where you got the doors to your pantry? I’m trying to redo our kitchen and really like that look for the pantry doors. I have to find some pretty narrow ones (I’m working with a much smaller space), but I like that idea.
