A Few New Cabinets in the Kitchen

December 19, 2011 AT 8:15 am 25 Comments

Oh my goodness!

Y’all would not believe the work we (okay, Cy) got finished in the kitchen this weekend!  He worked a 14 hour day on Saturday!  We were desperately trying to get things finished by Sunday, and we mostly did it.  There are a few more things to finish up, but it looks great!

I took a bunch of pictures along the way, but we got so much done that I cannot put it in one post.  So  my next few posts will be to show you what we did over the weekend.

First, I want to show you the cabinets we added around the stove.

This is what our kitchen looked like before we started…

When we knocked our old pantry out and created a new one, we left a space to the left of the stove for more cabinets space.

Cy built  a frame for our new lower cabinet.

The upper cabinet was one of our old cabinets that we painted white and re-used.

Since we did not have matching cabinet doors for the new lower cabinet, we decided to leave it open and add some baskets.

Over the weekend, Cy installed two more upper cabinets.  The one in the middle he built.  We will leave that cabinet open which is why we put a bead board backing in that cabinet.

The other two cabinets are ones we re-used, and they will have doors on them.

Cy added the middle shelf to the lower cabinet, and it now holds my baskets.

Here it is now.  We still have to add the crown molding on top, and the doors to the side cabinets.

You can see the tile back splash Cy installed.

We are getting there!  Smile

I plan on showing you our new open shelving next!

  1. Looks great! Can’t wait to see the rest of the photos from this weekend. I wish we would have gotten as much done this weekend. I’m starting with our subway tile today after work or tomorrow when I start vacation.

All the cabinetry looks great, Traci! Your backsplash looks fabulous too!!! How exciting.

  3. Way to go, Cy!! Wow, Traci, how exciting! To have gotten too much done to put it all in one post–that must be so exciting! I’d say you’re getting a new kitchen for Christmas, huh? And that’s just perfect–the heart of the home. :)

  4. Lou Cinda says:

Hi Traci! I found you through a post on Facebook from Thrifty Decor Chick and I have thoroughly enjoyed your kitchen remodel thus far. We are planning to start our own soon (hopefully and prayerfully). I have a quick question for you. We are also the parents of 4, 3 boys and one girl, and I have been considering a double oven range similar to yours. Do you like it and more importantly do you find that it meets your needs? Is there anything else you think I should know about it? Thanks so much, Traci! Have a blessed day!

amazing! that is a LOT of blood sweat & tears right there! are those ikea wooden countertops? really interested in using those in my basement and love how they look in your redo!

  8. Sandi says:

Looking good Traci. What a transformation.
Love the ceiling and that floor is gorgeous.
I can’t wait to see it all finished.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  9. Jen Lowman says:

Looks so great! The transformation is amazing!! Can’t wait to see it all finished! I bet you can’t either! :)

I love the baskets too! In that last picture, the baskets just looks so good with that counter top! I love how they add a pop of “color”.

    Merry Christmas!

  10. Jen says:

It is looking like a kitchen that is completely YOUR style and gorgeous.
ON a completely different but somewhat related question… how do you like your dual zone oven? I love the idea of them, but not the price and was wondering if they’re worth it?! The cheapest gas one we found was $900 on sale, and that’s a little more than we would like to pay. I was wondering if a toaster oven would be more our speed instead.

  11. Rebecca says:

Lookin’ Good! The pantry is still my fav, but just noticed the ceilings & LOVE those too!!!

  12. Traci says:

Wow the things you have done. It looks wonderful.
    Traci

  13. Kristin says:

WOW! Traci, it’s looking great! So fun to follow along your journey! I just put my first pics up today of our (inspired by you) in-progress kitchen remodel. I LOVE my painted cabinets. It’s on a much smaller scale than yours, but still, I’m lovin’ the change… Hope your Christmas week is off to a great start! ~Kristin

  14. Jessica says:

Lookin’ good!!! Such a beautifully transformed space!!

    Merry Christmas!!

  15. Darlene - MyHeartCreates says:

One question …. what time is dinner next week? LOL

Your “I’m only going to paint my cabinets” Kitchen is beyond beautiful … and I (we) cannot wait to see the finished project!

You guys are such an inspiration !!

  16. Tina McNamara says:

Beautiful, amazing job! Your husband must be one of those people that cannot sit still and is always doing something. I am so jealous. Cannot wait to see the rest of the kitchen.

  17. Jody says:

I just LOVE seeing the updates! It is so fun to watch the transformationn. Your Cy is AMAZING! Keep the great posts coming!

  18. Eeek!! It’s looking sooo good!! I’m loving the back splash too!! I can’t wait to see more!!

  19. It’s looking great!

  20. Kim B. says:

I laughed when I kept reading “Cy did this or Cy built this” as I was SIGHING with each new picture I saw! ha ha Looks GREAT!!

  21. Thereasa Gargano says:

Your kitchen looks amazing, great job! not sure if it is too late to comment on the camera bag giveaway. I follow, twitted, friended you and JoTotes. Adorable bags for one’s camera equip. I would purchase the Rose Sugarplum for my daughter who is a picture taking guru, photographer wannabe. She would love it for Christmas. Thanks for the great giveaway offer. Good Luck to Everyone!

  22. Colleen says:

The kitchen is looking just beautiful. It has been fun to watch the transformation and it gives me hope for our kitchen.

  23. Judy says:

I have the open shelving look and love it but DO NOT like all the constant cleaning it takes to keep it up. If you have a great stove vent, I guess it would be worth it. I’ve had it for 13 years now and am dying to get back to cabinets.

  24. Jennifer says:

I LOVE IT!!!!! We’re stuck in oven/microwave limbo while we wait for it to arrive. Right now, we have a wall oven and a ginormous cabinet to hold it. It’s so ugly. I LOVE the idea of mixing reused and custom cabinets! We’re stealing your idea for the microwave…we needed a solution EXACTLY like that. Now if the microwave would just arrive already. THANK YOU for sharing the details! :) :)

  25. Steph Stimson says:

    One word: gorgeous!
