My WORD for 2012!

My sweet friend, Layla is hosting a word of the year party.

She has encouraged us to  “choose one word that has the potential to inspire you and create intention in your life, all year long.”  (Layla)

I have thrown around so many words in my head trying to really think of ONE that would guide me this year.  Picking a word has actually been harder than I thought it would be.

But I finally come up with one…

worth

In my head, I kept thinking that I want my life to be WORTH something this year (and every year, for that matter.)

I want the time and energy that I put into the activities of each of my days to be of value.

I don’t want to live a pointless life, or waste my time or thoughts on things of no value.

I want my family to know they are WORTH everything to me!!

Being a wife to my husband and a mom to my boys is my greatest joy!

I found a few definitions of WORTH that stood out to me:

1.  WORTH (moral or social value): the goodness, usefulness, or importance of something or somebody, irrespective of financial value or wealth

I want my life to be good, useful, and important.

My worth is not in my material possessions or money, but in WHO I am as a person.

2.  WORTH:  excellence of character or quality as commanding esteem.

I want to do things with excellency, not just half-way.

And I want to teach my children to do things with excellency as well.

Always giving our “best” each day!

3.  WORTH:  usefulness or importance, as to the world, to a person, or for a purpose

This definition made me think of my blog.

I want my blog to be useful to my readers.

I want it to inspire, encourage, and help those who read it.

I want my blog to be one that is WORTH taking the time to read.

I also thought about my plans for this year.   Some of my plans may succeed and some may fail. I don’t know yet.  But I want to have the attitude that it’s WORTH the risk of failure.  I have to at least try.  Dream BIG.  Believe in myself.  Whether my plans succeed or fail does not determine my WORTHMy WORTH is in the “trying.”

Lastly, I chose the word WORTH because of my faith.  This year, I want to go deeper in my walk with Christ.  I want to know Him and make Him known.

Two truths that kept jumping out at me is:

1.  Jesus said that you and I were WORTH dying for.

Here is a song I am wanting Jonathan to sing at church sometime soon. It called, “Someone Worth Dying For.”

Also…

2.  Jesus makes life WORTH living!

One of my all-time favorite songs is “Because He Lives.”

Here are the words to the chorus:

Because he lives,
I can face tomorrow.
Because he lives,
All fear is gone.
Because I know he holds the future,
My life is worth the living just because he lives.

Here is a link to the song on youtube if you want to listen to it.

So that is my word of the year!

worth

I am so excited to see what all 2012 holds for me and my family.  And I can face this year with a peace and joy knowing that I KNOW the ONE who holds 2012!

  1. What a wonderful exercise…finding just one word! I love your word…worth and the way you applied it. May your beautiful family be blessed beyond measure and see the worth they have in His eyes!

  2. I am very familiar with Mike’s Chair as I listen to Christen music all the time. I had never seen this video, though. It brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing your word, your family and your faith.

  3. My word this year is “recalculate”….I think I’m going to take a cue from my GPS…I’m going to “recalculate” my route. My GPS tells me when I have gone off course and it recalculates the route based on my wrong turn. Luckily God is always one step ahead of my incompetence. I find it comforting to know I cannot plan God out of the equation no matter how bad I mess up. He will always turn the crooked places straight

“The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth” (Luke 3:5).

  4. Traci, I just wanted to thank you for all the things of WORTH you share with us on your wonderful blog. I visit you everyday. I am also blown away with Jonathan’s voice ! WOW! He sound like a young Michael Buble` . I know you’ve had to hear that before. I am the music director at our church and I work with people of all ages. It is not very often that you hear a 12 year old that has this kind of vocal control and such a great texture to his sound. I was so touched… He is not only talented but I believe has a special touch from God. I know you are so proud of him. I believe that God has great things in store for him.
Blessings to you and your family.

  5. Traci, thank you for sharing your heart and life with others. I have so enjoyed reading your blog (and your sister’s blog too!). I was so blessed by the video of Jonathan singing. The Lord has touched him in a powerful way and I am anxious to see the direction he takes. Love your word of the year. My word for the year is Purpose. I want to have direction and goals in all my actions this year.

  6. I think it is a wonderful word! Your son has a beautiful voice and I hope you will share a video of him singing that song if he ever does. I think my word for this year would have to be Trust. It is going to be a year of trusting God both with our finances and with our family. I have this feeling deep inside that God is preparing us for another chapter, but He just hasn’t revealed it yet. It’s not a feeling of dread, but of excitement. I just have to trust!

  7. That picture is adorable of all of you, wow four boys. You are ONE special mommy. Will continue to pray for you as your need for energy will be ever so strong. Blessings to you.

  8. so touched and inspired by the love you and your mom had and still have for each other ( because she has never left you ), her love will sustain you in time of trying times, her love will remain beneath and in your heart.

  11. If your son ever sings this song please video and put on your blog. I just want to hear more… Love your blog and keep up the good work. Your family is beautiful with God in your heart, it shines through.

  12. Beautiful post Traci – Because He lives is one of my favs too! Can’t wait to see your son sing this song and please please please video it for all of us. He is a such a blessing.

  13. I love your word!!! Thank you so much for sharing- it truly is inspiring. I’ve struggled with frustration and feelings of inadequacy most of my life because I’m such a perfectionist. If something wasn’t perfect, I felt like a failure- with that definition, of course, I failled at eveything. Then God showed me that there is a difference between perfection and excellence. Jesus’ sacrifice has already worked out our perfection in Him. I can strive for excellence in everything I do without feeling condemned that it isn’t perfect. Sorry this is so long, hope it makes sense.

  14. I LOVE your word! A lot of bloggers are sharing their word of the year & it’s soo inspiring to hear what everyone has to say. Worth..really makes you think outside of things, but more on self :) My word for the year is HOPE. My acronym for HOPE is Hold On Pray Everyday & that’s exactly what I’m doing! Loved reading about Jonathan & looking forward to seeing how God is going to continue to shine His light through him :)

  15. A well chosen and thought provoking word. Your definitions should speak to all of us. He has given each of us a gift and it’s up to us, to,not waste it. Proverbs 31:10-31 My study section says — The phrase ” a virtuous wife” speaks of excellence, moral worth, ability and nobility, not just marital fidelity. Such a woman is the ideal of wisdom in action.
Traci, you have what it takes…..if you’re not sure of it yet, we are, trust us! :)

  16. Traci, I don’t know if I’ve ever commented before, but I’ve been coming to your blog for all kinds of inspiration for quite a while, and I just wanted to tell you ‘thank you’ for who you are. What you do, raising those boys, is so WORTH it. May God continue to bless all five of your boys, ;), and may God continue to sing to us through Jonathan!
