Update on my Sister’s Laundry Room

Well, many of you have asked about my sister’s laundry room, and if we were ever going to finish it.

If it were up to me, I would have totally had this laundry room finished by now.  However, my sister kept holding me up.

Here’s how it went down…

1.  I showed you my sister’s laundry room “as was.”

2.  I introduced my sister to the Habitat Store, and we shopped for cabinets.

You can check out a pretty funny video of our trip HERE.

3.  I painted the green walls in her laundry room, and Eli helped me clean up.

4.  My sister didn’t buy enough paint, so I had to wait weeks and weeks and weeks for her to buy more!!

5.  In the mean time, I bought some white cabinets from ReStore for her laundry room, and our Dad and her husband, Wayne, hung up the cabinets while I was in Utah.

6.  Yesterday, I went by to check out the laundry room to see what else needs to be completed.

7.  We still need to add shelves between the two cabinets, a new light, and accessories.

8.  Today, my sister and I went to Home Goods and bought some accessories for the laundry room.  I love spending my sister’s money!!

Here’s a sneak peak of what we bought…

9.  I’m headed back over there tomorrow to finish things up, and I plan on revealing her new laundry room next week!  Yay!!

10.  She owes me big time.

Just curious, what is your favorite color to decorate with right now?

  1. Hi Traci,
My favorite color to decorate with is red. Of course, I try not to overdo the red but I have always been drawn to red and just love it in my home and in my antique booths. As a matter of fact, if I put something red in one of my booths it almost always sells within a week.

  2. RED!
But I just love color in general.
My girls have a Caribbean blue room with a watermelon and lilac striped border. My little boys have Kraft Mac-N-Cheese yellow on yellow stripes with a forest green border. My husband gets to share my cream, pink, and red bedroom. The Big boys have the family room above the garage, so It matches the rest of the house which is khaki, cream, and red.

  3. Definately that pretty robins egg blue color! Can’t wait for the reveal..Are you doing something to cover that spot where the hoses are attached to the wall?? Just curious, I have the same problem and was wondering what to do to cover that? Thanks!

    1. Tiffani,
We do not have plans to cover the hoses right now, except maybe with decor. They are in the worst spot! Why can’t they make them lower so the washer and dryer can cover them?
Maybe I can come up with something? We’ll see…
      :)

my favorite is Blue and/or yellow!
have always loved the combination of the two..
I am NOT trendy..nor do I follow along with the masses ..
in using/loving whatever the decreed “color of the year”!~
In fact, such overuse of that color everywhere I look, actually turns me off!
In my home, I enjoy the calm serenity of the seaside in blues, and greens and yellows..
    often in very muted hues..
with the same colors in stronger tones as accents!
but I also love white! especially for all trim work..
I do not like wood tones at all!
    with living green plants throughout!
even stranger as it may seem..I love RED..for SHOES!
currently have way too many pairs!!
    If i’m quirky..so be it..
    warmest hugs..

    1. Loui,
I have always been a fan of blue and yellow too! That’s the colors I used in our first kitchen. I love yellow in a kitchen!
And I adore white trim! I haven’t had a house where the trim wasn’t white. It’s just so crisp and clean.
      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Linda,
I love green apple too! We bought some green apple towels for Cyndi’s bathroom today. I love how cheerful it is too!

  5. It’s looking great so far! I’m loving the ‘bird on the wire’ fabric…very retro. Can’t wait to see the finished work.

Favourite colour to accessorize with at the moment is a soft ‘beach glass’. We love our neutrals around here and It adds a nice pop of soft colour. :O)

  6. I paint and decorate for my sister too! She had a dinner party last week so the weeks leading up to it I was busy painting her kitchen and touching up the hallway and laundry room. I love decorating with tans, white and black with lots of blues.

  7. hi Traci,

I currently am using teal as my base color……some version of it in every room. I used all the shades on a single color card. I also used a rich taupe in smaller spaces (powder room and mud room. I have all white trim. My case furniture is all either white or espresso. I accent with yellow, orange, cinnamon and apple green. The exception is my kitchen which is chocolate with white trim and ss appliances.

I think those colors really invites people to relax and enjoy conversation.

I am really enjoying your blog…both the decorating/renovation and the life moments.

We plan to move in the next 4-5 years and renovate an older house. I will no doubt take inspiration from some of the things you have done.

    Thanks for sharing!

  8. Love Green…any shade it seems…also being real attracted to yellows and grays…just bought some material to make a quilt in those colors. So glad to see the next episode of the laundry room… :) Hope you do another video, better than the boobtube!

  9. I am still LOVING the earth tones these days. Although for a laundry room I would go much more fun color wise! Can’t wait for the big reveal!

As for your ‘finally finishing it’ project! I would love if you shared it on the UFO Challenge party. 4 other girls and I are hosting the one-time party for the exact reason you described! To get us off our keesters and get those never-ending projects finished! We are starting it on May 1st.. plenty of time to get your sister’s laundry room.. and now you can tell her you have a deadline! No more procrastinating! :D http://www.themoney-pit.com/2012/04/announcing-ufo-diy-challenge_25.html

  10. I saw that rug at Home Goods this past week AND at TJMaxx this week! I kid you not! Love the birds of a wire. I would have purchased that one! People are talking about the hose box — it is called a “guy” box — really. Have no idea why, but when I switched my hoses from emptying into the sink THAT ALWAYS OVERFLOWED because there was always a baby sock (way back when) or some other little thing in the sink to “one of those boxes on the wall,” the plumbing store told me that they call it a guy box. Still cannot get over that one. Can’t wait to see what you are gonna do with the space between the cabinets. Are you going to add crown to the top too?

  11. Just found your blog through A-Z. It’s beautiful, and I’m now connected. I’m always looking for ways to make our home more beautiful in practical, inexpensive ways. Thank you!
