Our Master Bedroom Update!

Whew, ladies!

I feel like we are finally making some headway in our master bedroom.

It may not look like much has been done, but believe me, my hubby has been working his tail off!

We have all of the ceiling and walls completed.  (That is pine on our walls.)

Some of the crown molding is installed.

We have beautiful new oak on the floor!  (I’ll tell you more about that later.) Smile

My husband has installed all of this hard wood flooring by himself.  He has worked so, so hard!  He usually gets up early before work to go run, then works all day at the bank, and then comes home and works on our house to 1 or 2 in the  morning.  I’m not kiddin’!

The other day he was installing the hard wood floor, and I noticed that I hadn’t heard the floor-nailer in a while.  So I went into the addition to check on him and this is what I found…

Bless his pea-pickin’ heart!  He was plum tuckered out!

Have you ever seen something so precious?!!

He was so worn out that he took a little cat nap right there on the tar paper.

I don’t know if I have ever met another man that works as hard as my man does.

I am truly  blessed!!!

And he is doing a GREAT job!

I love our new oak floor.  We are going to stain it a darker stain.  Probably “walnut.”

Our walls will be painted a light neutral color.  And all of the trim will be painted a bright white.

We’ve made HUGE gains in tearing out our current bathroom to make room for our new master bathroom.  HUGE!

I will share those pictures with you soon.

We are getting there my friends!  Smile

We are hoping to be able to actually move our bed into our master bedroom and start sleeping there in just a couple of weeks.    WOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!

And then I can start decorating!

Here are a few inspiration pictures that I love for our master bedroom…

  1. Oh my goodness, that picture of Cy sleeping on the floor is the most precious thing I’ve ever seen!! He is seriously doing an amazing job! The master bedroom is looking great & your inspiration pictures are beautiful!

  2. What a great hubby! I got one like that too. :) When we re-did our kitchen, he worked like a dog to get it done in three weeks, so I wouldn’t have to do dishes in the bath tub any longer then needed! So blessed we are!! The master bedroom is looking great!!

  3. Your bedroom is looking so great! Those inspiration photos are gorgeous and I know whatever you create will be awesome! Praise the Lord for husbands who give so sacrificially for our families! I have one of those too, and love him more every day :)

  4. I love the idea of wood planks on the walls. Could you give details of the width you used and where you got them. Your whole house is looking great!!

  5. You are truly blessed with a husband that can build stuff! My hubby gets up at 3:30 AM to write and then he is off to his full-time, public affairs government job. He also writes a very successful book blog. (His book is coming out in September!) I’m so proud of him! Where do these men get their energy?
Your house is looking awesome! I love the inspiration photos! Can’t wait to see what you do with the space.

  6. I got all choked up seeing your sweet husband sleeping on the floor!! Your room will be beautiful I love the Inspiration pictures!

We did end up planing our bathroom walls, thanks for your help :) I’ll send you a link to the post when I get it up.

  8. I love that your Southern accent comes out in your posts :)

LOVE the inspiration photos! It looks like a retreat :) You are so lucky :)

  9. Oh Tracey it will be amazing!! You’ve really tackled a huge project! Kudos to you for that. I can completely envision your space now that I’ve seen the inspiration photos.

  10. It’s coming along so great! I felt sorry your hubby…I can relate! When I’m in the middle of a project, I will work until I’m about to pass out, in his case he did!! :)
    Awesome progress!

  12. That picture of him sleeping on a hard ‘floor’ just made me tear up, such love and devotion the poor man needed a pillow and soft comforter. You are so blessed. I am glad he was safe and away from the nail guns… poor guy.

  13. What a beautiful (to be) bedroom. What a wonderful husband. If you ever finish the house, can I borrow him? (I know you can never be done) I thought you were leaving the walls natural. Why did you choose the pine for them , if you are painting, and not drywall? Cant wait to see when you are finish but probably not as much as you do. Love your blog. When you do finish you need to have a party.

  14. Traci, your Cy is not only an amazing handyman and husband, he’s a good sport too. The bedroom is already beautiful and I can’t wait to see it completed.

  15. It is looking great, and I got so homesick when you wrote, “Plum tuckered out”…love it! Your inspiration rooms are fantastic. Have a great week, Lori

  16. I love it all, but especially the white-washed walls in the first picture.
That treatment allows the natural grain to show through, but remains light and airy. It seems a shame to use real wood and go through all that work to only conceal them with paint. I have a feeling your room will exceed your inspiration pics.

P.S. I have a feeling the next time you may find your husband asleep in the tub!:)

  17. That is too funny. If that was my guy I would have thought he shot himself with the nail gun!
And then sadly….I thought my husband was the only guy that wears black socks with shorts!!
Soooo jealous of your progress. We get new windows, but that’ll be it for another ten years. :(

  18. Are the planks tongue and groove or straight boards and are the seams lined up or placed randomly? (it looks like they are random from the pics but can’t tell for sure) Love the look so far and wouldn’t mind copying it for a wall in my living room. Thanks!

  19. Hi there! This post could not be written any better! Reading through this post reminds me of my good old room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this write-up to him. Pretty sure he will have a good read. Thanks for sharing!

  20. I love the progress you’re making at the inspirational pictures! I love the look of the horizontal boards on the walls. Are you going to do that, too? It would be fun even if only a feature wall had that horizontal look. Fun, fun!
