We’ve Torn Out the Old Bathroom to Make Room for the New One!!!

We are making some huge gains in our master bedroom!  This past week, we tore out our old bathroom to make room for our new one.  Yay!

Here is a picture of what our bathroom looked like a week ago (minus the chunk my husband took out of the tub before I took this picture!)

Remember… our new master bathroom is on the other side of that window, so this whole bathroom had to be gutted.

Cy first took out the window and tore the wall out below to create the doorway to our new bathroom.

Here is the other side of the bathroom.  This is the side of our bathroom that includes the vanity, shower, and claw foot tub.

Did you see a little something through the doorway?

Take a closer look….

That’s E-le-o-le-i checkin’ daddy out!

Cy couldn’t find his safety glasses, so he wore some of my sunglasses.  Smile

Oh yeah, baby!

Back to the other side…

Here is what the bathroom looked like after Cy took out the window and removed most of the tile from the walls.

Then he had the MAJOR task of removing the steel tub.  That thing was a booger!!!

It got ugly, people!  Plain, ugly!

But Cy finally got it all out, and we were seeing some progress!

Then Cy had to close of the bathroom door that leads into our den.

Here it is before…

And here is Katy (Eli’s bestest buddy) and Eli showing you the after…

Now let’s go back and check out the other side of the wall.

Cy put down some plywood on the floor to create an entry way into the new part of the bathroom.

There will be a little entry way that leads into a separate toilet area.  Cy built a small wall in the middle of the room to create privacy.  We have covered it with the same pine planks that are on our bedroom walls.

This entry way also leads into our closet (that has been our bedroom for the past year).

Here is our bedroom just a week ago.  I know…a total mess!!!

Cy and I actually have NO bedroom right now.

I was soooo wanting to feel like we were making progress, so I removed our bed from our bedroom.  It was my way of staking my claim!  It was proof that we are very close to moving into our new master bedroom.  We are about 10 days away from being finished with the first floor of our addition, so until then, we will be sleeping with the boys or on the couch!

And I am totally down with that!  And so is Cy!

It makes us excited to think we are almost there!!!

So I took the bed out and moved my computer desk to the other side of the room.  It’s quite the comfy office space for now, just ask Eli!

In just a couple of weeks, this room will be our master closet!!

This pictures shows you how the addition connects to what will soon be our closet.

We have also painted our master bedroom.  You will be able to see that in the video.

A video is really the best way to show you all the changes we have made over the past week.  So I put one together real quick to give  you a better idea of how things are shaping up.

We are in the home stretch with our master bedroom and bathroom, and I am thrilled!!!

  1. I have been following your blog for a long time! We have a lot in common. My husband and I built a custom home and sold it last year. We bought a log cabin home with 4 acres and have been redoing it for the past 6 months! I showed my daughter, Trinity your son sitting in the chair on the photo above. I said see…Trinity we aren’t the only crazy family in this world! They are doing the same thing. We refinished all of our flooring with white pine and poly’d over it while we gutted the kitchen. We actually had to crawl through a window from the sunroom to use the upstairs bathroom. I can so relate! :) Fellow UK girl! Me and my home only yell Go Big Blue!! HA! It is looking amazing! I always tell everyone that comes to our house, now put on the vision glasses we are about to walk through!

  2. Bless your hearts! I know this will be great when it is finished…the wood is looking so good. Love a clawfoot tub too. I don’t think I could live in all of that with 3 kids and maintain any sanity, so my hat is off to you guys! Hope y’all make fast progress.

  3. Wow! The video really helped, but I’m thinking I still need a before and after floor plan! It looks like you have to go through your bathroom to get to the closet? It’s great seeing all of the behind the scenes work…that is one hard working husband. It will be so worth all the work.
    thanks for the video.

Wow y’all are amazing!!!! It is looking so great! I can’t wait to see it finished! I will be praying for y’all the next couple of weeks.

  6. Can’t wait to see it all done. I know it must be hard to live there while remodeling at the same time, but it will be so beautiful when it’s finished.

  7. Awesome progress!! I can’t wait to see it all finished! (Made me laugh…I have the same Shamrock Shuffle shirt that Cy was wearing in the video:) I have run it every year except this year since I was pregnant. Hope to be back out there next year to start off my running season aka lose those baby lbs!)

  8. So wait . . . no, I just got it. SHUT UP, you are going to have a whole bedroom for a closet????? I am so not liking you right now!!! No really, I am so envious! You dream it, you build it. You rock!!!! (Cy does too.) ;)

  9. Congratulations. I’m so excited for you and have so enjoyed your posts about the process. Keep them coming as you can :)

  10. Wow! That is a TON of hard work! Do you have a room that will be your office? You said the room with your skirted desk will soon be your master closet, so I was wondering where you’ll put your desk then?

  11. You have one incredible husband, I am truly amazed every time you post pics or videos. With both your creative skills combined you make an awsome team!

  12. Wow…what an amazing job! The forethought and layout of your reno is fantastic! I always learn so much from your posts when I visit. Never even thought about the fact that you could cut out a window to make a door. Didn’t put 2 ‘n’ 2 together, that if the window is there, it’s not load-bearing? I’m assuming anyway! lol Never knew about industrial grade flooring either. Thanks for sharing…..taking notes for our next house!! ;O)

  13. Good gracious Traci, Cy is a working machine! :) Your house is going to be so lovely when all your plans come together. Can’t wait to see it all done, and I’m sure you can’t wait to have a bed again! :)
Have a blessed day, and I hope your air is fixed…of course, now it’s cooler so you won’t melt even if it’s not!
    Hugs
