Celebration of Service with Home Depot

I am so thrilled to share with you another amazing opportunity that I have been given the honor in which to participate!

I have been praying that God would use my blog is some way to serve others in REAL LIFE.

That is why I was thrilled when Cy and I were given the opportunity in July to help someone in need of a home.

And now, I have been given the opportunity to team up with Home Depot to help serve those special people who have given their lives to serve others…

Veterans.

Last year, The Home Depot Foundation launched its first-ever Celebration of Service volunteer campaign. Throughout the two-month initiative, nearly 9,000 store associates worked side-by-side with veterans to complete 320 service projects across the country.

Today, The Home Depot® Foundation announced that it has surpassed the three-year $30 million pledge it made in 2011 to veterans’ housing initiatives more than a year ahead of schedule.

As part of its second annual Celebration of Service campaign, the Foundation is now committing an additional $50 million to veterans’ nonprofits over the next three years in an effort to ensure every veteran has a safe place to call home.

In addition to its funding commitment, The Home Depot Foundation’s Celebration of Service campaign kicks off today with Team Depot associate volunteers repairing and renovating 100 veterans’ homes in 13 cities. Over the next two months, through Veterans Day, thousands of Home Depot associates across the country will complete more than 300 service projects to benefit veterans and their families.

I will be flying up to Michigan in a couple of weeks to help participate in a Celebration of Service!  There will be other sweet bloggers there with me.

I will also be given the opportunity to participate in TWO more Celebration of Service events over the new few months.

It is going to be such a GREAT honor to give back to our Veterans, and I feel so blessed to be able to do so.

I will be sharing all the fun right here on my blog!  Can’t wait!!!

  1. Traci,

I have been following your blog for a couple of years now…I love reading and following your progress. I read your blog this a.m. about the giving back to Veterans Program. My son was in the Army for five years. He is a Bronze Star recipient. “proud Mom”…he, his wife and two sons live in Herndon VA. They just bought a home there. The home is nice but in much need of some updates. My son has been through a lot during the past years. But not once has he complained, he just keeps on pursuing dream after dream. My daughter-in law is a first grade teacher. She was such a trooper during two deployments raising both of their children and working a full time job away from family. I would like to nominate them for the Home Depot Veterans Program. They are most deserving.

    1. Thanks to your son, his family, and of course the ‘proud Mom’ for serving our country. It does take the entire family. I am the proud Mom of a son and two grandsons in the USAF.

  2. What a wonderful experience this will be. You are just the person to do this. Have fun and I will look forward to you blogging about the trip.

  3. My husband, Matt, and I both served in the Air Force on active duty and I am currently serving in the Air National Guard. So, thanks, Traci, for doing this! We appreciate it.

  4. What an awesome reward to get to help out our Veterans in such a way. I will be following along on your journey. Love that the Lord is working through you for such a great cause.

  5. My husband is a Marine, and we are currently stationed in Japan. I can’t tell you how much programs like this mean to military spouses and families. It warms my heart to read about projects such as these. Many military families are hurting inside and out. And even for those of us that are doing well, knowing that others care, pray and serve reminds us we are not alone. May the Lord continue to richly bless you and yours! Thanks!

  6. Very cool. Thank you to you and Home Depot for remembering the veterans.
My husband served in the army and I know sometimes veterans get forgotten. :)
We all owe them a lot.
    Thanks again!
    Kelly
