I am so excited to see your BEST DIY project from the month of November!

My BEST DIY Project during November would have to be our guest bathroom renovation that is still in process.  We have done so much in there already, and we should be finished with it in about a week.

Just wanted to remind you about my monthly linky party that will go live tonight around 9:00 pm.

Chalkboard Calendar Inspiration

November 29, 2012 AT 10:44 am 8 Comments

I’m going to be flat out honest.  I am a disorganized mess right now!

Seriously…do not EVER let me fool you into thinking that I have my life together!

Daily, I forget something I was supposed to do or somewhere I was supposed to go, etc.

Cy has mentioned to me several times, “Traci, we need a big calendar that we can put everything on so everyone can see it.”

I agreed.  I just didn’t know where or how I wanted to do it.

But yesterday, out of sheer desperation to organize my life, I started making a chalkboard calendar for my kitchen.  It’s the spot we all come in and out of everyday, and I am hoping that if I have all of our activities written in one place, MAYBE it will  help.

Wish me luck.

So I was browsing online yesterday looking for inspiration for Chalkboard Calendars, and I wanted to share them with you.

Aren’t those great!  I am feeling more organized already just by lookin’ at them!

I am going to try and finish my kitchen calendar this weekend and will share it with you next week!

“What I’m Loving” Wednesday!

November 28, 2012 AT 7:58 am 19 Comments

Happy Hump Day!

I hope you are having a great week so far.  Smile

Today, I wanted to share with you what I’ve been lovin’ lately.

First of all, I’ve been loving my

Michael Buble Christmas CD!

{Um…Hello! Is that present for me, Michael?}

Do any of you have this?  We bought it last year, and the boys and I love it!  We are HUGE Michael Buble fans!  {Or Michael “Boo-bay”, as Eli calls him.}

My favorite song is #12,  Cold December Night.

I am also lovin’ this bread.

I could eat a package of these a day, I swear!  My boys love when I make sandwiches with them for their lunches.  Cy loves it when I toast them in the oven with turkey and cheese for an snack while watching football or basketball on tv.  YUM!

I’m loving all the Christmas movies that are on tv now!

I love watching the classics especially, but the boys and I love Elf and the newer Grinch too.  Nothing like snuggling on the couch watching Christmas movies this time of year!

I’m loving this verse:

During this time of year, it is easy to get so busy and overwhelmed with all that we have going on.  But I am trying to focus on resting in God.  This means that I have to take time each day to read his word and talk to Him in prayer.  It is amazing the peace that I receive when I spend time with Him.  I pray that you will find rest in Him too.

I’m also lovin’ this sweet sight….

purse 004

{One night when he fell asleep with his teddy bear in his arms.}

Right now, Eli loves for me to lay down with him at night, and of course, I do too!  He fell asleep last night with my arm around him and my hand snuggled in between his two sweet little hands.  There is nothing quite as sweet as hearing your child drift off to sleep.

I’m lovin’ this kids’ passion for reptiles.  Smile

sept 025

{Luke with his leopard gecko, Troop.}

Luke got a leopard gecko for his birthday, and it has been nothing but reptile talk every since. sept 036

I swear that kid could talk about reptiles 24/7.  It drives me nuts sometimes, but it is fun seeing your kid so passionate about something that means a lot to him.  He would like to expand his reptile collection, but mama is saying “no” to that right now.

I’m lovin’ watching this kid grow in his passion, music, too.

carter's 009

He played his guitar for the first time in church last Sunday in the Praise and Worship band.

Jonathan is a music loving fool!  He has been playing on his guitar every minute he can since we got him his guitar for his birthday in July.  He has self-taught himself through videos on youtube.

We filmed him singing on his guitar for Kevin and Layla the other day to show Kevin what Jonathan has learned so far. Here is a clip for you.

I am loving this sweet boy.

phone 028

Adam loves football and basketball right now.  But more than anything, he just loves love.  Adam has the sweetest, most loving heart ever!  He just wants to love and be loved.  He is the child that is always hugging me, loving on me, telling me I am beautiful and the best mom in the world.  If you want to feel good about yourself, hang out with Adam for a while.  He is the great “uplifter.”

Of course, y’all know how much I love this man!

phone 001

We ran our very first half marathon together in October.  My first, his 6th or something. Smile  We had just finished the race when I snapped this picture.  Wow!  It was tough!  But I am so glad I did it, and I had my best friend cheering me on.

So those are some of the things I am loving right now.

What are you loving today?

November 26, 2012 AT 4:00 am

I am so excited to show you Eli’s new clothes. Smile

Being the youngest of four boys, let’s just say that the hand-me-down clothes are WORN OUT by the time they get to him!

He has been needing clothes so badly, but I haven’t had the extra money to get them.  That is why I was so excited when I was contacted to do a giveaway for OshKoshB’gosh.

I LOVE OshKosh!

I was thrilled to be able to buy Eli some new winter clothes online, and was so excited that they fit him perfectly when they arrived.  We went outside and snapped some pictures in his new clothes.

{He especially likes his new vests!}

I have to share with  you that I am so grateful that my blog has provided ways for me to get basic things for my boys.  My mom used to always help me out with buying the boys some new clothes, especially around the holidays.  So I know it would just thrill her heart to see Eli in these new clothes.

He was a great sport during our “photo shoot.”

Owl Themed Gift Wrapping and DIY Ornament

November 20, 2012 AT 6:00 am 8 Comments

So, “whooooo’s” ready to start talking about Christmas?!  Believe it or not, I am!

I am “owl”-ways ready to talk about Christmas.  Are you?

I actually have a Christmas tree up and decorated in my home already.  People may think I’m crazy, but I don’t give a “hoot!”

Are you catchin’ a theme in this post?

Yep… Owls!

Do you know the Legend of the Christmas Owl?

Here it is:

 “I’m a little Christmas Owl. Please hang me in your tree. I won’t say much while I’m here, but my eyes have much to see. When Santa starts to check his list, you know he checks it twice. He sends an owl to be his eyes and see whooo’s naughty and nice! So, every time you see an owl with his eyes so wide and bright… be on your best behavior for that owl is Santa’s sight!”

I am loving me some owls right now!  I have some owl ornaments on the Christmas tree that I already have up in our master bedroom.  {I had to put it up early for a post I was doing for Home Depot.}

The tree topper I made is actually an owl too.

So I did a little early Christmas wrapping and carried on with the owl theme.

I wanted to share with you some easy Christmas wrapping ideas.

Christmas wrapping ideas

An inexpensive way to wrap Christmas presents is to use brown packaging paper.  I got my roll of brown paper at the dollar store.

Next, I used some black and white plaid ribbon to tie bows on my packages.

To coordinate with the decorations on my tree, I added some white feathers.  I bought a package of feathers for a little over a dollar at Michael’s.

Christmas wrapping ideas

The greenery and red berries that I added to the package in the above picture were Christmas decorations I had left over from last year.  I believe I purchased them at Hobby Lobby.

I made the black owl with my Silhouette machine.  I made the owl cutout and then sprayed it with chalkboard spray paint.  {You could just use black paper if you wanted to.}  Then I used chalk to draw the eyes and wings.

Christmas wrapping ideas

On another package, I used a white cutout of an owl and attached two red jewel eyes with my glue gun.  I also added a feather to the bow for a touch of whimsy.

Christmas wrapping ideas

You could write something cute on the tag like this, if you wanted to…

Christmas wrapping ideas

Lastly, I just added some feathers and a red jewel to the middle of my bow to coordinate with the other packages.

Christmas wrapping ideas

I just love my cute little Christmas packages.  Smile

Christmas wrapping ideas

Well, I couldn’t say goodbye to my owl obsession just quite yet.

I decided to make an owl ornament as well!

mod podge owl ornament

All I needed to use was a plastic ornament, ripped book pages, an owl cutout, Mod Podge, ribbon, and jewel eyes.

Owl 004

This project was sooooo easy and something that your children would love to help you make.  {Because it is messy!}

I took a plastic gold ornament and covered it with Mod Podge.

mod podge owl ornament

Next, I covered the ornament with strips of ripped book paper.  Once I covered the whole ornament with book pages, I put another layer of Mod Podge on top of the book pages.

Then I added my owl cutout to the ornament and applied some more Mod Podge on top of that.

mod podge owl ornament

After the ornament was dry, I used my glue gun to attach some black ribbon to the gold piece on the top.  Next, I tied a red ribbon to the top and added adhesive jewels to the owl for eyes.  {I got the adhesive jewels last year from Hobby Lobby.}

Isn’t he sweet?!

Well, I am finished with owls for now, but I am keeping my eyes out for some more “owl”-trageous projects for the future.

I found a few already that I want to share with you.  Just click on each picture to visit the original source.
