More than an Heirloom

Well, my sister shared another youtube video with me on facebook, and I started crying as soon as I read the title.

Heirloom, by Amy Grant, is one of my all time favorite songs.

It reaches deep into my soul and expresses all of those dear things that I love so much in my life.  As soon as she begins to sing, I begin to bawl.

Man, I miss my mom.

{It’s been a “Mom, I miss you so much!” kind of day.}

As I listened to the words of the song, I was reminded of those boxes in my attic full of pictures and papers that hold such sweet memories to me.  Those things that we pass down from generation to generation and remind us of days gone by.  They are priceless to me.

But my family is more than an heirloom to me.

This holiday season, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, it is easy to get caught up in the traditions and stories that we pass down like heirlooms from generation to generation.  We sing the same songs, put up the same decorations, make the same cookies our mom’s made, and so much more.

But I am so grateful that Jesus is mine, and the story of His birth is so much more than just a story that I pass down to my children, and they to their children.

He is so, so much more!

Jesus is more than an heirloom to me.

I hope you enjoy this song and the sweet poem that Amy shares at the beginning.

God bless you all!

  1. I cried too so I thought it was only fair that you cried. Reminds me of what a wonderful childhood we had and how blessed we were to have Mom and thankfully to still have Dad. But also how thankful I am for you! I could not have gotten through the last three years without you.
    Love you sis,

  7. Thank you so very much for sharing that….God bless you & yours during this time of celebration for the Birth of Our Lord and Savior…..I lost my Mom 37 years ago and it is still very hard at Christmastime not to dwell on the many Christmases Past that we celebrated together…Then 20 years ago I lost my”other” Best Friend my wonderful husband and oh how I miss him so very much……
    But with both of them and so many other wonderful family that are now gone…I would not pray them back for anything because I know they are celebrating Joy Unspeakable and Praises Worthy of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.. Celebrate your Christmas with your Loved Ones and Thank Our Lord that He gave us “our” family here on Earth for as long as He could..But we know He needed more angels in Heaven and what a privilege to know He Chose Ours…..Love, Prayers & God’s Tender Peace……

  9. Merry Christmas to you…this Christmas is hard, as I just lost my mother in October, knowing she is with the Lord has been a great comfort, though I wish she were here so very much! Hugs from heaven to us all! :) donna
