Closet Makeover {paint stick}

We have started a new project in our craft/office room.

I am on a mission to organize this closet and room into my new craft/office room.

This room is a disorganized mess {as opposed to an organized mess}, so it is time to put my big girl panties on and get ‘er done!  Remember the last time I put on my big girl panties?  Oh yeah baby!  It’s on!!

So I cleared out the closet…

Then I needed to paint it the same color as the rest of the room, Sherwin Williams “Natural Choice.”   I just gave that color to the people at Lowe’s, and they mixed me up the same color using Valspar paint.

I also got to use a fun new-to-me product called a Paint Stick by HomeRight.

There are two different versions:  The Paint Stick and The Paint Stick EZ-Twist.

I decided to use the EZ-Twist for my project.

Here are the parts I had to assemble.

There was a lid that I was able to place right on top of my paint can…

Then I attached the paint stick to the nozzle on the paint can and sucked the paint right up into the paint stick tube!

Totally forgot to take a picture of this step, so maybe this will help…

{Dang!  I look good in blue!}  Smile

It took me a couple of minutes to get the paint up in the tube, but once the suction got going, it was super easy!

The cool thing about the Paint Stick is that the roller is perforated so that the paint goes down through the tube and into the roller.  You can paint a large space without having to dip the roller into the paint tray a gazillion times.

I painted almost this whole closet without having to refill the Paint Stick.  It was so quick and easy, and I was really pleased with the coverage.

I also really liked the plastic guard that covers the roller so that the roller doesn’t flick paint all over me and everything else.

The Paint Stick definitely made my painting experience less messy.  I wasn’t dripping paint everywhere like I usually do when dipping my roller in a paint tray over and over.

{ Just had to share what my shirt said with you. }

The closet is now painted ready to go!  I have some fun plans for this space and can’t wait to share them with you.

  1. I want one of those. Now I need to find something ot paint so I can get a paint stick. Can’t wait ot see how you organize that closet!

  2. All I can see is two things:

    First …. JibJab !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    and

Second … I’m buying me one of those fancy paint rollers!!

  3. I’ve been curious about this product; thanks for posting about it. How was the clean-up process? Is it easy to get the paint out of the tube?

    1. Oh, Amanda! I meant to say something about the clean up process in my post. I’m so sorry. I may go back and add it when I get a chance.

The clean up is definitely a lot more than just using a regular roller. The first time took me a little longer to figure it out, but I think I would get quicker with each time I used it.

Although the clean up process takes longer, you save time and a mess by not using a regular roller and paint tray, in my opinion.

      Hope that helps!

  4. You have INSPIRED me to get off my backside and paint my dining room. I am going to check out that color “Natural Choice” Anything besides that Martha Stewart color will be better. I am over that!!!!

Hope you are doing well my friend!

  5. Looks like a great tool. Hilarious post – a little concerned that you sniffed too many paint fumes! HA! Can’t wait to see the finished project.

  6. I used one of these all the time years ago and I still have two of them in my basement. I also had the attachment for the flat paint pads. They worked GREAT. I don’t know why I stopped using them. I think maybe I lost a part and thought they were no longer made. Now I know they are and I’ll be using this when I repaint my bedroom and ceiling. (Same color, just some water damage. Urggg!) Thanks for another post. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

  7. Looks good! I can’t wait to see it all organized and finished. I was just wondering…why did you take the trim off around the closet?

    1. Hi Jan! I like that you noticed that. :)
We knocked out the closet header to make it easier to reach the shelves I am going to put in it. And it is prettier, I think. :) It will show off the new pendant light I put in it. shhhh….

  8. I wallpapered my guest closet with left over wallpaper from the room, it looked really neat……until we had a fire (started in that room from an unattended candle) Can’t wait to see what you did to your closet Tracy. Love your idea’s. Praying for you.

  9. I am so happy that you feel good enough to do the painting. You are amazing. Thanks for sharing and don;t over do.

  10. Can’t wait to see what you do in this room Traci!! Looks like you’re feeling better…. SO happy for that! :)
