How to style a coffee table in 5 easy steps!

Thanks to One Kings Lane for sponsoring today’s discussion.

Hey friends!

I’m on my way to Nicaragua today, and I will be sharing my experiences with you starting tomorrow.  I will post every day from down there, and I hope you join me each day on this amazing trip!

But for today, we are going to talk about coffee tables, okay?

My sister has asked me several times to do a post about how to style coffee tables, so when this opportunity with One Kings Lane came available to me, I decided to take it.  Maybe my sister will quit bugging me now!  Ya think?

Two of the furniture pieces that many of us buy when we get our first place to live is a couch and coffee table.  Ya just gotta have them.

It makes me think of my single years.  If you can’t afford a bed, just sleep on the couch!  If you can afford a kitchen table, just eat off the coffee table!

Ha!

However most of us are past those days, some of us farther past that others.  {ahem.}

So instead of eating off our coffee table, let’s have fun styling it!

You can style your coffee table in 5 easy steps.

1. Add a tray to your coffee table to organize some of the following items.

2.  Place some books on your table that are interesting for you or your guests to read.

3.  Bring your coffee table to life with fresh flowers or greenery.

4.  Set out a decorative accent that is unique to your taste and could be a conversation starter for your guest.

5.  Either for ambiance or the smell, add a candle to your coffee table.

Now I am no professional at styling coffee tables, but I know someone who is…Emily Henderson!

  1. Coffee is definitely my favourite thing on the coffee table, but since I carry it to every room, each table becomes my coffee table ( or tea table depending on the time of day. Have a wonderful trip and don’t forget the bug spray! This trip will change your life, I think. We’re just one little world and everything we do has such an impact elsewhere. i’m glad you’re posting from there. I wasn’t sure how remote you’d be and if you’d have a regular source of electricity.

  2. I came to let you know I am really looking forward to reading about your trip with Compassion and got some great tips for a decorating dunce like myself. Now I ready to tear apart my coffee table and style it up! :) hahaaa! I will be back to read about Nicaragua and to get some more decor ideas! :)

  3. My favorite item is some very nice coasters and their holder that I purchased on sale at Pier One.

  4. Great post, Traci! Right now, my favorite item on my coffee table is a huge piece of mountain laurel driftwood I found up at the lake! It’s gnarled and smooth and twisted — I adore it. May put a succulent or two in it soon. :)

  5. My favorite item on my coffee table? Would have to be the small photo album of photos of silly poses our family members were caught in! At first, the album looks innocent enough, until the reader starts flipping through it. It’s always great to be getting ready to go out, and have a friend on the couch flipping through the pages…. all of a sudden you hear the rumble of loud laughter! You know what they are doing! Caught…. looking through my book! Totally great.

  6. I’ve got a white wooden tray on my coffee table; it’s very summery and I use it as a place to stash my remote controls and TV guide. I found some green and turquoise stemless plastic wine glasses that make perfect little vases and that fit well on the tray. Function and beauty!
