Decorative Burlap Memo Board {for my office}
Hey friends!
I wanted to show you something I made for my office.
It is a large burlap memo board.
I love it because it is decorative and functional.
It was super easy to make, and I got all my supplies at Lowe’s {minus the burlap.}
Supplies from Lowe’s:
Large Green Foam Board {Insulated Sheathing}
1×2 pieces of wood
Oil Rubbed Bronze Upholstery tacks
Here is what the insulated sheathing looks like…
Pactiv 1/2-in x 8-ft x 4-ft Extruded Polystyrene Insulated Sheathing
It’s over near the lumbar section at Lowe’s.
FIRST, I measured the space between my office desktop and the upper cabinets and created a frame out of the 1×2 pieces of wood.
I used wood glue and my nail gun to attach the pieces of wood together.
THEN, I laid the wooden frame on top of the green foam board and used a box cutter to cut the foam board the same size.
I used a glue gun to attach the wood frame to the foam board.
AFTER THAT, I laid the board on to of a large piece of burlap that I got at Hobby Lobby.
I just pulled the burlap tightly over the frame and hot glued it to the wood.
BE CAREFUL!! You can easily burn your fingers during this step. {Don’t ask how I know.}
Lastly, I turned the board over and nailed the upholstery tacks evenly around the edges of the board.
How big your board is will determine how far apart your upholstery tacks are. You can space them out however you want.
Then I placed the board against the wall. It was a very snug fit, but just to secure it a little more, my husband screwed the top of the frame to the upper cabinets. {He screwed the screw down through the bottom shelf of the cabinets into the wood frame.}
I absolutely LOVE my new decorative memo board! It adds texture and color to the walls, but it is also functional.
It’s going to really help me stay more organized.
I look forward to showing you the rest of my office transformation soon!
Stay tuned….

I love this memo board! What a wonderful addition to your office!
This is such a great idea! I love how large it is. This would be perfect in a school room…
I love it! I really like how much it spans that area. Now THAT is what I (okay we all) need. I’m a new reader, but will definitely be saving your blog. Your home is gorgeous.
Hi Traci,
Looks great. May I ask where you found the big letter H? Can’t wait to see more.
It looks fabulous! I love it when function and pretty come together. :)
Absolutely fabulous, Traci! Now I think I may need one!
That looks really nice. And, so easy to make. :-)
Love it Traci!! :) I bought a board for our office and just might have to cover it with burlap. Do u find it is cheapest at Hobby Lobby? I am no where near one but might have to check out Michaels with a coupon. Can’t wait to see your whole office!!! :)
Beautiful and I love the custom size! I did something similar using a thrifted bulletin board. The burlap adds such great texture!

I LURV this!!! So easy and cheap! This is my kinda project. New follower here.
terrific. I am thinking about a control central wall that is semi functional \. one o those things that he wants there to be fewer holes in the wall but it is the only place anyone pays attention to ie looking to see where and when we are to be someplace, jury duty notecards. this nice big seamless one is so smooth and uncluttered lookin
This is super and looks to be so much fun.
Thanks for such great details. When you said you secured it to the top cabinets, I thought “well, I wonder how they did that?” thinking you came from the bottom up. Now keep in mind this went through my head in like a nano second. After reading the next sentence, I said “we’ll, duh!” to myself. Love it and I’m going to make one for my sewing room.
Oh Traci, I love it too!! The upholstery acks really make it!
XO,
Christy
Pretty, pretty! #JustLikeYou :-D
Thanks, Lay! Love you!
Of all the memo boards I have seen, I think this one is the most utilitarian kind because it’s so large.
It’s handy that way instead of trying to cram everything into a small board.
but what I find most inspiring is that you did it yourself instead of buying it at a store
Thanks, Olivia! I like that it is so big too! I’m hoping it helps me get more organized this year. :)
I love this. Now I just need to see wher I want it.
God Bless
I would love to make the burlap board. I would need a much smaller one but do not feel confident especially using power tools.
Catherine,
Maybe you could just buy a large cork board and cover it with burlap? You could just wrap it with burlap and hot glue it to the back. Or buy a large piece of plywood that you can have precut at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Then hot glue cork board material to it. {You can buy rolls of it at Walmart at any craft store.} Then wrap the whole thing with burlap and a hot glue gun.
Hope this helps!
