Layla and Kevin’s Visit {The Lettered Cottage}

I’ve been meaning to share with you the wonderful visit we had with our precious friends, Kevin and Layla.

They were traveling up north at the end of May and swung by to see us on their way back down to Alabama.

We were beyond thrilled to have Kevin and Layla stay with us.

I met Layla four years ago at Blissdom, and we both agree that it was a “God thing.”

We’ve shared a special connection ever since, and she is one of my biggest “blog blessings.”

It’s awesome making online friends and meeting them in real life.  The majority of my best blog friends I have only met in real life at conferences or blog events.

So it was extra special to spend time with Layla on my home turf.  Smile

The first night they were here, we grilled out at our house and then went to get some yogurt.

Sunday morning, we were so blessed to have Layla and Kevin go to church with us.  Layla shared this photo on Instagram…

After church, we headed to Johnny Corinno’s for lunch.

Eli LOVES Layla and wanted to be by her side all the time.  It was so cute.

After a quick stop at Guitar Center to get Jonathan some new strings for his guitar, we went home and then headed to Shaker Village to walk around.

It was fun just checking out all the beautiful scenery.

That night, we just relaxed outside and ordered some pizza.

Kevin and Cy played basketball with the boys outside while Layla and I had fun styling and shooting some pictures inside.

Layla is the one responsible for some of the beautiful pictures in my home tour.

She completely styled my fireplace for me and taught me how to take better pictures with my camera.

You are not going to believe this, but we took the next picture of my bedroom around 9:00 that night.  It was almost completely dark outside, but the settings on my camera made it look like the middle of the day!

While we were working on styling my kitchen, we heard some music outside and decided to check it out.

Here’s is what we found…

Jonathan really enjoyed playing guitar with Kevin.  He learned so much from him, and he loved hanging with someone who loves music like he does.

Kevin has a sweet spirit about him that my boys just loved.

Can you believe that Layla and I didn’t get a single picture of the two of us together?!  We realized it right after she left.

We had such a great time together, and we miss them terribly!

We are hoping to see them again soon.  Smile

  1. Looks like an amazingly fun time. I am not familiar with KY, like, at all, so is the Shaker Village you visited the same one Turtleman rescued the raccoon from? I remember that place feeling so peaceful when I watched it on TV… :) :)

  2. I was wondering if you could share the secret to the photo setting that took that wonderful photo? I have never met either you or Layla but follow both of your blogs. I have to say how inspired I am by both of you. Not only are you creating beautiful homes for your family (which I love and hope to apply many of the tips to my home), but also you are creating a wonderful life for you and your family, filled with love, family values, and your faith. Thanks for allowing us to be a part of your story!!

  3. What FUN!! I know you loved having Kevin and Layla there. I just love seeing that little love affair between Eli and Layla. :) Aren’t Kevin and Layla going to be amazing parents? A blessed little boy or girl will find himself or herself right in the most amazing family. And speaking of amazing families, yours is right up there!!

    Miss you, friend!

  4. Adorable!! All of it. Thx for sharing your life with us. Your family is adorable and what a blessing to host some dear friends in your home. God bless you all sweet Traci :)

  5. Now if I could just convince you and Layla to come style my fireplace, no? :) That video was so sweet….love all the boys playing music! Looks like y’all had a great time!

  6. Ah, how precious. The whole time I was reading, I kept thinking, “oh, Jonathan and Kevin should play the guitar together.”

I was so pleasantly surprised with the little video at the end and the picture of the two of them on guitar is inspiring!

    Thank you for sharing!

  7. That is so sweet. It is heart warming to see you so happy making lovely friends like that. I can feel the joy coming from all of you, including your children, because of the connections being made. I love that you all are just genuine people, God-centered, good-hearted souls enjoying each others company. It’s not always possible to make those connections in today’s world, when you’re busy working and taking care of your family. I’m genuinely happy for you Traci. How blessed you are to have those girl-moments with Layla. :)

  8. thank you for sharing. I wondered right away how long it would take for Jonathan and Kevin to get together with their guitars. Looked and sounded like fun. It is so wonderful to see bloggers sharing like this other than at a convention God Bless you all.

  9. Ok, it’s not that I am stalking your blog this morning (yes I am). Or that it is because I miss you (I totally miss you) – but I have to say, this post made me smile SO BIG!! You and Layla are two of the sweetest. I absolutely adore you two – and you two together? Well that is just too much to take in all at once.

  10. Looks like you all had a wonderful time! Love the pics of your home — its really coming along beautifully. Although, please SHARE what settings you used to get that gorgeous shot of your bedroom at NIGHT?! Please & thank you! xoxo
