How Will I Be Remembered?

I have had something on my mind the past couple of weeks, but I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to write a post about it or not.

It’s not about home décor, or diy projects, tools, or recipes.

It’s about Miley Cyrus.

Well, sort of.

You may or may not have seen her performance on the VMAs.  I did not, because I do not ever watch the VMAs.  They depress me.

But the next morning, I saw her performance all over the news.  And it  made me sad.  I felt like a mama hen worrying about her baby chick.  I seriously could not get her off my mind all week long.  I kept praying for her and felt kind of silly about it.  I don’t know her.  She doesn’t know me.  But I kept lifting her up to the Lord in prayer.

Her performance on the VMAs was such a stark contrast to her days on Hannah Montana.

Where did that sweet little girl go?

I get so sad when I see these young stars grow up to make such bad decisions with their lives.  Miley Cyrus is a very talented young lady, but you couldn’t tell that at the VMAs.  Her performance was vulgar, inappropriate, and such a terrible example to young girls.

It was completely for shock value.  She admitted that the whole thing was choreographed because she wanted to go down in VMA history as one of the most memorable performances.

And it was exactly that.  She got TONS of press, and she was thrilled about it.  Miley will forever be known for that performance.

I started thinking about my life and what I want to be remembered for.

Do I want to be remember as a blogger?  Not really.

Do I want to be remembered for all the DIY projects in my home?  Nope.

Do I want to be remembered for any of the accomplishments I may have achieved in my life?  No.

I pray that someday I will be remembered as someone who was not perfect, but who loved Jesus, who tried to be kind to everyone, who loved deeply, and someone who enjoyed serving others.

I believe that serving others is one of the keys to a fulfilling and joyful life.

I also believe that when we only serve ourselves, we live unfulfilling, depressing lives.

Why do so many kids and adults in Hollywood {and outside of Hollywood} make train wrecks of their lives?  Because they are living to please themselves and to exalt themselves.

When we focus on ourselves, we will never be full.  We will always be seeking for more.

But when we take our eyes of ourselves and focus on those around us, our hearts and lives will be filled to overflowing.

If you think about it, we are most like Jesus Christ, when we put others before ourselves.  He was the most self-less person who ever lived.  He gave His LIFE for you and me.

But our culture tells us we are stupid to put others above ourselves.  We are to look out for ourselves, look out for #1.

Friends, that is a lie from the pit of hell.

The bible says that the first shall be last and the last shall be first.

I am trying my best to instill that in my boys.

That life is not all about them.  It is about others.

Romans 12:10 NIV

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

It’s not about what you can GET out of life, but what you can GIVE.

Acts 20:35-38 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

I pray that they live their lives with outstretched arms, always looking for ways to bless others.

Deuteronomy 15:11 For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

Because if they do, I know that they will live rich, full lives.  That their hearts will have more joy and love than they will be able to hold.

How do you want to be remembered when you are gone?

It’s something very important to think about, and something that should direct the way we live our lives

I’m closing the comments on this post because I do not want this post to cause a discussion about Miley and whether or not her performance was a good or bad thing.

That was not the intent of this post.  I love Miley and will continue to pray for her even though I will never meet her on earth.

This post is just my personal opinion of how to live a fulfilling life. And I believe it is found in a life that serves others.

Unfortunately, our children are being raised in a “ME, ME, ME” culture where they are they are encouraged to only think about themselves.  It is my prayer that we as parents lovingly lead our children to understand how important it is to love and serve others.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL on this journey called LIFE.  Smile

LET ME BE KNOWN BY THE COMPANY I KEEP

Let me be known by the company I keep
By the One who determines each day that I greet
From the moment I wake ’til He rocks me to sleep
Let me be known by the company I keep!

Let me be known by the company I keep
When the valleys are low and the mountains are steep
By the One who holds fast when swift waters are deep
Let me be known by the company I keep!

Let me be known by the company I keep
By the One who implores me to sit as His feet
And quickens my soul to discern what is deep
Let me be known by the company I keep!

Let me be known by the company I keep
Eclipsed by Your presence that I may decrease
‘Til all You have chosen this traveler to meet
No longer see me but the Company I keep.
