Quick Getaway to Pigeon Forge!

On Friday, we went on a quick trip to Pigeon Forge for the weekend.  Since Champ was still on the mend, he was able to stay at the vet while we were gone.

We met Cy’s parents at a cute little cabin in Pigeon Forge.  The best part of the cabin was the forest surrounding us and the creek at the bottom of the mountain.

The boys spent HOURS exploring the creek and woods!

Luke began digging in the mud searching for crawdads.

Jonathan spent time moving rocks around and creating new dams and waterways.

I love the sound of water rolling over rocks, don’t you?  It was divine!

Did I mention the boys spent HOURS in the creek and woods?  Smile

Luke showed us one of his largest “catches” of the day…

2013-10-12 16.32.32

They caught a pan full of crawdads.

Then they boiled them over the campfire.

2013-10-12 16.44.29

Then they ate them.  Not kiddin’.  It grossed me out, but I loved seeing my “boys being boys.”

We spent a lot of time of the porch and back deck just hanging out.  Eli showed Grammaw his drawing game on my iphone.

Cy and Pop discussed everything from cars, to spray foam, to politics, to family memories.  These two are a hoot together!

Jonathan got a hold of my camera and took a picture of me working on a post on my computer.  I had to include this picture because it is my total “mom look.”  You know, the “I’m gonna kill you with my eyes” look?  Do you have one of those?

2013-10-12 17.32.24

Here are the boys early in the morning warming up under a blanket on the couch…

On Sunday afternoon, we went to the race track so the boys could ride the cars.

I love this picture I got of Cy, Pop, and Eli on the way into the park.

Before racing, Eli, Luke, and Jonathan climbed the rock wall.  They all did great!

Here’s Eli riding a car on the junior race track…

Luke, Adam, and Jonathan were able to race together on a faster raceway.

2013-10-13 14.07.32

Luke stayed in first place during the whole race.  Jonathan was right behind him until the kid in the yellow car bumped Jonathan and made his car get stuck.  Not good.

2013-10-13 14.10.25

Adam had fun racing and was even able to give me a thumbs up as he drove.  “Two hands on the wheel, Son!”  Smile

2013-10-13 14.12.19While the brothers rode the faster cars, Eli and I went around to some of the smaller rides that he could ride.

He got on the junior roller coaster and didn’t like it during the first couple of laps.

2013-10-13 14.24.18

But as he got used to it and received some cheers from Pop and Grammaw, he began having fun.

2013-10-13 14.24.42

He also got to ride this ride.  I can’t remember what it is called, but it takes you up and drops you down small little distances at a time.

2013-10-13 14.49.05

We finished off the day at the tracks with some Dip n Dots.  Cy won a UK basketball at one of the basketball games.  He made the basket on the first shot…”nothin’ but net!”

2013-10-13 15.06.50

It was a short but very special trip.  We had so much fun together, and we will remember this trip for a long, long time.

  1. Time with family is the absolute best……..most of the time. :) how did you do on your clean eating while you were away? Traveling and family events can be hard.

  2. The picture of your hubby, his dad and Eli is frame-worthy! My sis-in-law/BFF started taking pics of her husband and son and/or daughter walking hand in hand from the back view, from the time they were little. Down to this day (not always the hand in hand part – LOL ) There is something so special about pictures from that angle. I’m not sure why.

Thanks for sharing your special family time

  3. I love white dishes too! We have some simple white dishes that were from my husband’s aunt. I’ve been told they were the dishes you would get at the grocery store after you spent a certain amount of money. Something like, if you spent $10 you got a plate. When a friend wanted to change her decor she GAVE me her china cabinet (It was purchased during a previous marriage so she was happy to get rid of it). I didn’t have any “fancy” dishes to put in the china cabinet buy my BFF helped me decorate it with the aunt’s old white dishes and I LOVE it!!! I also love the split peas in your candle holder! I’m wondering if something like that can be done with a glass tealight holder in any clear vase or is there something special about that inside candle holder? I think black beans would be cool for Halloween!!! Glad you had a great time! Thanks for sharing!

  4. I love that picture of your husband, his Dad and your son. That will be a treasure for your son for his whole life. I have a picture of my son with both of his grandpas that is priceless. Savor those times together. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

  5. Sooooo precious!!! We are headed that way on Friday!!! Been going to the Smokies for years and years with our family…. and extended family!!! Most amazing memories !!!!!!! Love that this cabin was near a creek…. We usually stay over closer in to Gatlinburg… Was this cabin with an agency??

  6. So sweet! Love seeing the kids being kids…that’s rare these days. This is my kind of getaway too..I’m jealous, but happy for you and your family.

  7. I LOVE white dinnerware. I love to match with seasonal pieces that show up with the crispness of white.
4th of July, thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Not to mention spring and different styles.
Oh, how I would love to have one good set to do this!

  8. I love watching boys be boys! I’m so glad you give them the time, freedom and opportunity to explore and get dirty.
But I have to say, if that is your best mom “stink eye” you need to work on your skills. Mine would put you to shame..but I have had more years to practice :).

  9. I envy close families. Not all of us have that. I agree with Kim R. in that you need to work on that “mom look”. I combine the “mom” look with the “teacher look” and I’ve been told it is lethal. HA!

    1. Ha! I can’t believe y’all don’t think my “stink eye” look is tough enough. :) I thought it was pretty good.

      Have a blessed day, Sylvia!

  10. You are right, those family moments can never be taken away from you. I had a flood in our basement and lost so many family pictures. But the memory will alway be there. Thanks for taking me on a weekend trip. God Bless

  11. I love white dishes too. If I won your contest, I would use them at our October birthday potluck. I’m the youngest of 11 and we have BIG parties. I would love to win because my birthday falls in October. Love your blog Tracey.

  12. Looks like ya’ll had a great trip. When those boys of yours are ready to eat some real crawfish bring them down New Orleans way and we’ll show them how to pass a good time. Laissez les bon temps rouler!!(Let the Good Times Roll!)

  13. What a fun trip! Our fams are on the other side of the country so we don’t get to do this sort-of thing… can’t help but feel a little envious! :) Your children are so fortunate! Any chance you could share info about where to rent this cabin? I took my boys to Gburg last year – loved it! – but our cabin wasn’t conducive to stream/woods exploration. They would be in heaven! Thanks for sharing your trip and btw, I think your mom-look was pretty good! lol
