Progress on the boys’ bathroom

I told y’all that my main home goal for this year is to finish the upstairs of our addition.  It contains two bedrooms and a full bath.

Jonathan and Luke share one room, and Adam and Eli share the other. They will all share the bathroom.

I’ve made a lot of progress in J & L’s room.  Smile

I’ve finished both sets of industrial shelves, {which I will be showing you soon}, and I’ve been able to put together some new bedding for them.

I still have a desk area that I am going to create for them in their room, but I want to finish the bathroom first.

Last year, we installed the tub, toilet, and tile, as well as the plumbing and electric.  And then we stopped.  It has been like that every since.

The boys have been using the downstairs bathroom.  The one that is supposed to be for guests and the one that I shouldn’t have to clean as often. Smile  Unfortunately, four boys using the same toilet is, well…..a nightmare!!! If you know what I mean!  And I would rather that nightmare stay upstairs!

So I am sooooo excited that we are finally making progress on the boys’ bathroom.  Cy is building me some vanities.

We have both of them made.  One on each side of the window.  Now I need to figure out what type of vanity top I want to put on it.  I am leaning toward galvanized steel like I did on my kitchen table. DSC_0230

And I am also leaning toward painting the vanities red.  I LOVE red, and it is soooo boyish!

Here are a couple of vanities on Pinterest that I used for inspiration.

  1. YES! Red, definitely red! Didn’t think I would like it, but after I saw a picture….Yes, go with the red! Perfect for the boys!

  2. Hi Traci – please, please, please tell me you are going to to a tutorial on these vanities and counter tops – they are EXACTLY what I want to do in my boys bath – SOON :) thank you so very much for your blog – (I’m so bummed I missed the Silhouette giveaway :( )

  3. I LOVE the red!! I’m not sure if this is what your planning on but those bowl type sinks are too cute. That is what I want to do in MY bathroom one day. I completely understand why you want to boys to have their own bathroom I only have one in the hall and one in my room so unfortanately the guest bathroom has to be shared by everyone!! Talk about cleaning all the time.

  4. I’m liking where you’re going with this space. I think a muddied red would be awesome with a galvanized top. The bown sinks are pretty, but I would imagine more prone to chipping with 4 boys! Are you still going to use the two green industrial barn lights you bought a while ago? They would look so great here. Keep up the momentum.

  5. The red is adorable. Keep in mind it will limit you as opposed to a neutral cabinet and then decorate with red
Accessories that aren’t so permanent. But it is great!! Can’t wait to see how these spaces turn out. I’ll bet the boys are so excited too!

  6. great job. and the pins all look nice. I will say that I have heard about the bowl type sinks being really easily damaged and could be an unnecessary expense to have to replace soon after installation.

  7. I love the red and the coral..but the red for the boys bath is super duper! and I love the shelves underneath too. As far as being neutral, you can go a whole lot of color ways with red,I am looking at some Pier one pillows on my sofa and they have so many colors including red and they all go together very well, then there is a plaid blanket, with many colors with the red. Go for it!How fun to change the accessories down the road once in a while!

  8. How about red vanities with a concrete top? That would look cool and probably pretty easy to make, heavy, but pretty. Love what you’ve done!

  9. Oh the joy of little boys. I have to tell you a funny little story…true … that happened to my bff. Her son, about 8 years old, went into the guest bathroom across from her bedroom. He proceeded to do his business with the door wide open. She stood there and watched as he zipped and walked out. She said, “You made a mess and you need to clean it up.”
He did. She then asked, “What did you learn from this?” “NEXT TIME I’LL CLOSE THE DOOR!” I laugh every time I think of it. I’m sure you can relate.

  10. I would love to know what this floor tile is that is in this bathroom? I am remodeling a bathroom for my boys and really like this floor, and the red vanities!

      1. Do you know if this is galvano charcoal or mitte gray? Would love to know! You did a wonderful job!!
