Sunday Encouragement

I’m one of those people that always feels like I have to be “doing” something, or I feel guilty.

I have trouble sitting still and relaxing.
It’s such a waste of time to sit still…right?

Well, that’s not what the bible says.

Actually, there is action in sitting still and knowing that God is God.
When I sit still before God, He is “doing” a work in me.
And my action is to be listening.

Is this age when our minds are bombarded with tvs, and computers, and ipads, and ipods, and movies, and social media, and on and on and on…

we desperately need to sit still and Know God.

We need to make room in our minds for just HIM.

It’s not easy.  So many times I try to be still and pray or read His word, and my mind constantly wanders off to what I could be doing around the house, or what I might be missing on my computer, or what to cook for dinner.

Does God get mad at me when my mind wanders?  Absolutely NOT!  He loves me, and He knows my heart.

But I want to be able to sit still and focus on only God.

I’ve determined that I have to “train” myself to do that.  And training requires practice.  Daily practice.  Just like an athlete that practices everyday for his sport.

Thankfully, I do not have to do it on my own, but I can pray and ask God to help me.  I need help tuning out the world and focusing in on Him.

My soul desperately needs the peace that only HE can provide.

Do you ever struggle with sitting still in God’s presence like I do?

Well, let me encourage you not to give up!  Keep on practicing!

And may God fill your heart and mind with the peace that passes all understanding!

    Have a blessed day

  2. this has been a life long challenge. it seems satan sends the temptation via a child, hsb, phone or remembering something that has a deadline. thank you so much for the reminder.

  3. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I appreciate your positive outlook and strong Christian values. Your posts are always a “pick me up”.

  4. I have to be disciplined also to stop and listen to God. When I do He is always faithful to fill my soul because He knows what I need each day. I never regret time ‘being still’ with God. Thank you for reminding us of this.

  5. This is one of the most difficult things I’ve ever tried to do. “Try” because I still work on it.

I’m a 30+ year yoga teacher and to this DAY, I have difficulty sitting still or even taking the last pose of relaxation and stillness. I’ve gotten better, but movement is how I think, I guess.

One of the few times out of the day I am able to sit still and simply let my mind wander, usually over my blessings, is when I have my coffee in the morning, in front of my window, with a cat in my lap. They share our lives for such a short time, if they want to sit in my lap everything else can wait. Nothing is as important as their love and the comfort they innately give us.

Gifts come in the smallest details if we’re open to seeing them. Sometimes we need to allow ourselves the gift of stillness to reflect on these details.

I have that psalm written on my unfinished drywall right by my bedroom door. As usual, you hit the right note. :)

  6. Our pastor spoke on this very subject not too long ago. He encouraged us to “rest” in Jesus. Let me tell you something – when I started to think about being still and knowing that He is God -I found myself resting in Him, His love and His promises.

Tracy – I really enjoy your Sunday encouragements. You are an encouragement to me and the blogging community.

    Hugs & Blessings to you!
