Why I write sponsored posts. A heart to heart talk.

Hey sweet friends!

I need to have a heart to heart with you.  Smile

On Thursday, I wrote a sponsored post about Kleenex on my blog.  I got a very unkind comment from a reader who said she “doesn’t care for my blog anymore.”

She said I am always talking about products, and she was going to go seach for blogs that she could “come away feeling like I got something out of it, not like I was trying to be sold something.”

She even used the word, “yuck” when describing my blog.

It hurt, friends.

I try not to let negative comments bother me, but they do.  Let me just say that I have the most wonderful readers IN THE WORLD, and I rarely get negative comments.

It doesn’t bother me when someone doesn’t like the way I decorated something or the paint color I picked out.

But when someone doesn’t like my blog.  That hurts.

I looked back over my posts in January to see if I was doing too many “sponsored” stuff, and I didn’t really think I did.

But then I noticed I have done a couple of Silhouette giveaways and maybe that was what she was referring to?  Those are not sponsored posts I get paid for.  I only make affiliate money if someone buys something using my code, which truthfully, is not often.

But who doesn’t love a Free Silhouette Giveaway? Smile  I do that for my readers because I love seeing someone win one and count it a blessing to use my blog in this way.

I did a sponsored post for Lowe’s this past month, like I do every month.  It’s a perfect fit for my blog, right?  I do DIY projects that hopefully inspire you.  I use the gift card Lowe’s gives me to purchase supplies, so the only money I make from those posts is if I have money left over on my card.  And if I do, I use it for other projects on my blog to share with my readers.

I did a sponsored post on Valentine’s Day cards because it is that time of year, and I thought my readers would love to know about those cute personalized cards.  My boys LOVED the cards I gave them yesterday.  Eli even cried when he read the words inside.  Smile

I know the sponsored post about Kleenex was a little bit of a stretch, but I thought, “Who doesn’t need tissues in the winter, and maybe my readers like cute decorative tissue boxes like I do?”

I talked to Cy about the unkind comment that was left, and he tried to encourage me.

I really didn’t care that I loss one reader, but what bothered me was that maybe some of my other faithful readers were thinking the same thing that that commenter said.

It got me thinking, and I wanted to share some of my thoughts.

I have worked really hard for 5 years to provide great, FREE content on my blog.

The first couple of years I didn’t earn money, but as my blog started growing, it started turning into a business and now I earn an income that our family depends on.

All of my boys are in school now, and I thought I would go back to teaching at this time in my life.

But my blog has changed those plans.

I am now making enough money on my blog to continue staying home which is such a blessing!

But there is no way in the world that I could continue sharing free content on my blog without making money.  I spend a minimum of 40 hours a week working on projects, taking pictures, editing them, writing posts, sharing posts on social media, answering emails, etc.  If I didn’t make any money on my blog, I would have to go back to teaching at this point.  I could not justify spending that much time on something that I didn’t make any money on.  Although I love it enough to do it for free, it would not be fair to my family.  At this point in our lives, when my husband has gone into business for himself, I need to be doing something to supplement his income.

So sponsored posts are a necessity for me.  I consider them like commercials on tv.  We don’t always like them and don’t always watch them, but the are necessary.

January is always a very low month financially for bloggers because ad networks pay very little during this time.  After Christmas, they are all spent out. Smile

So bloggers depend on sponsored posts to help make up the difference.  I have had to accept several sponsored posts recently to help make up the difference in the low amount of money I am making on my ad networks.

It’s the same thing as when my dad always worked overtime during the holidays to help mom pay for Christmas, ya know?

However, I do my best to make them posts that my readers would be interested in.  Sometimes those posts are a great fit for my blog, and sometimes they are an “okay” fit for my blog, but I do try.

And I just wanted you to know that.

And I wanted to say a BIG thank you to one of my sweet readers, Angie W., who left a comment on my Kleenex post telling me one of my links wasn’t working.  I received her comment right after the mean one, and it meant so much to me that she took the time to tell me that the link was broken.  Especially since I am getting paid on that post by how many “clicks” I get.   I told her it brightened my day.

I know that many of you support me and my family, and you would never complain about a sponsored posts.  And I know there are some of you that don’t like them.  I totally get it.  I don’t always like writing them.  hee.hee.  So you will not hurt my feelings if you skip right over them.  I promise.  I skip over them all the time on some of my favorite blogs that I read.

If you have made it this far in the post, thank you.  Smile

You are so sweet!

I just wanted to share what is on my heart today.  Thank you for letting me.

I pray you have a blessed weekend, friends!!!

  1. I love what you do and you will always have negative people NO MATTER what we do!! So look at the positives and keep on blogging!!!! God Bless you!!

  2. Traci,
There will always be negative people. I love reading your blog. I love the inspirational stories you share about your faith and your family. I enjoy seeing the projects you do around your home and ideas you share from other bloggers projects. I also enjoy seeing new exciting products. From one Kentucky girl to another, please don’t change a thing. You are wonderful.

  3. I enjoy reading your blogs. I come away with many great ideas. I appreciate your information and honesty about how the blogging business works. I knew bloggers had sponsors but had no idea of how they were actually compensated. I learned I need to take the time (with a click) to support the posts I find interesting and useful. As a former teacher, it sounds like the blogging business is much like teaching, no on really thinks about the hours spent creatively planning and preparing for a day.

  4. Ignore the negative people…there are always going to be a few of them around…but they are far outweighed by people who love your posts and learn so much from you. CHEERS to you and your wonderful writing…I LOVE IT always whether it is a sponsored one or not.

  5. I don’t think you’ve crossed over into “4 Men 1 Lady” status yet, (she wrote about ketchup that one made me mad), but I understand where you’re coming from, & I understand where the readers, like myself, are coming from. I appreciate you giving your side & explaining it and being honest with us. That is what keeps your readers coming back:)

  6. I don’t have a problem with sponsored posts. I figure you have to help pay the bills and all the time and supplies you need for awesome projects. Heck, someday I hope to be writing sponsored posts :D The Kleenex one was funny but considering we’ve been sick three times already this year, I’d take some free Kleenex, too!

  7. I think I need to go click a few links from that post now! :) I love reading your blog… Sponsored posts and all! I love that you are genuine and real. And I’ll bet that the person that commented won’t really be leaving because you are just too awesome.

    1. I agree with the majority here . Your blog gives me great inspiration and there has been nothing that made me ant to run. It’s enjoyable, helpful and any day I can learn something from someone else. It is a win win day.
Also, I kinda like the fact that you explained what sponsorships were all about. I learned even more today.

Keep doing what you are doing and feel free to run those negatives by your friends. I for one, will always tell you the truth.

God Bless and thanks for being a blessing to me.

      Annie

  8. I truly enjoy your heart sharing…God wants us to share what we know to be true. I came to know you and your sisters blog through your sharing with your mom. It caught my interest because I am on the other side of the fence. I am in a marriage to a man who’s children lost their mom and miss her terribly…like you do. I read your blog in hopes that when their hearts are hurting..I can find tenderness towards them…and you have helped me to do. You have meant something to me and I thank you for that!! No person is perfect and when we love them we look past their flaws..because frankly we know we have them too! I myself don’t really notice the advertisements because Im so looking forward to hearing your heart..just remember why you started your blog and keep heading the direction that is best for your family God is the keeper of your heart You will be strengthened..praise God!! I pray for yours.

  9. I actually hadn’t gotten a chance to catch up on posts and didn’t see your Kleenex post until just a bit ago. I personally love their newer designs for both boxes and go-packs. I don’t always comment on sponsored posts, but I don’t have a problem with them. Then again, my reading/commenting time has been extremely limited lately anyway. If it’s a product or service that I can identify with as a need/want for my life, then I am more than likely going to go purchase that item or Pin it for later use.

Finally, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, keep your head up and go on doing what you’re doing. I am sorry that you lost a reader over a sponsored post. You are an amazing woman, mother, wife, etc. and you have been a blessing to so many people through your blog. Your posts have blessed me in so many ways, from inspiration of the home to inspiration as a mother. You are amazing, so don’t you forget it!

  10. You are an awesome blog writer! Keep up the good work! Whether it’s a sponsored post or DIY project you’re sharing; they are all an inspiration and please PLEASE please keep them coming! :-)

  11. I prefer not to read blogs that have pop up advertising and sidebars full of advertising. But,that’s just me.

  12. Thanks for being so honest. I find it so hard to believe that anyone would have a problem with someone trying to make some cash doing what she loves. I wonder if that reader works all week and then tells her boss to keep the paycheck?

  13. Hi Tracy! I’m so sorry that people feel the need to be so hateful in comments. I read your blog all the time and never gave it a second thought when I saw the post. You have one of the most genuinely, sweetest hearts! I know because you share such wonderful insights to your life on the posts and I find myself wishing we could be friends! So I’m sending a big hug to you from your “online” friend! Please don’t let negative comments hurt your sweet hear because there’s tons more people out here that feel differently than that one, hateful person!

  14. Don’t sweat the negative. Although I understand those type of comments hurt, it’s not worth worrying about. Those who care will continue to read and understand the need for such posts. You are doing what is most important for your family and that’s what matters most. You will be blessed because of it. Keep posting and I’ll keep reading. :).

  15. I look forward every day to checking out what you may have posted. Does every post thrill me? NO. I don’t expect it to. Are they always interesting? You bet! Keep on keeping on and I will always be visiting you everyday to see what you have to share. Sharing is good.

  16. Just wanted to write to say I agree with all the above comments! People can read or not read, comment or not comment, but there’s no reason to be nasty. I read blogs, don’t have one and never will because it sure looks like A LOT OF WORK to me and I enjoy being retired!! ;)

  17. DarlingTraci … out of the thousands of well wishes, likers, followers, and new Internet friends we make (speaking of you here) it amazes me how one negative person with a rude comment can break our heart. Silly girl …. you keep on doing what you’ve been doing and just delete that sad person from your memory. I wouldn’t change one darn thing about your blog, you, Cy or your darling little boys! :)

  18. Tracie–I just want to say thank you. Your transparency always encourages me. I hear your heart. Thank you for being strong and courageous. God bless you <3

  19. Love your blog, Traci! I will NEVER criticize any woman for earning money via the internet so that she is able to help support her family and be with her kids! In fact, I try to think up ways to encourage women to have that opportunity–I kind of think it is like the wise woman of Proverbs 31 – we need to be encouraging each other and young women to be resourceful in finding ways to nurture their own creativity and livelihood!

  20. There will always be negative people around — try not to let it get to you. I enjoy your blog and really, never think twice about sponsors or ads or promotions. About a minute ago I printed out your recipe for your heart cookies! Thanks for all you do! Can’t wait to get baking today!

  21. I enjoy reading your blog. You are creative and inspiring. I admire you for starting a blog and then turning it into something you love and can make money from. Keep up the good work.

  22. Hi Traci!
I enjoy your blog and your “heart”. Perhaps that is why she was sent your way. Because she has a hurting heart, and God knew you would send prayers for a healing heart her way.
    Blessings to all!

  23. I’m sorry to hear this. I admire your willingness to put yourself out there in your writing, sharing, & even refferals on sponsored posts. Sponsored posts make blogs possible sometimes & you only choose those you believe in. We all have the prerogative to read & take what we need/want from an article. So Just like the old saying, if you don’t like it, change the station. Too bad not everyone chooses to do so without negative comment. :-( Keep up the good work.

  24. I love your blog and I have never thought twice about sponsored posts! You don’t do many at all. I’m so glad that something you love has become a blessing as an income source for your family.

  25. Oh, I hate that you have to defend yourself like this! Why on earth would we not expect you to be compensated for the incredible amount of time you spend giving THE READER material to be inspired, tutorials…etc. I cant for the life of me understand why someone cant just simply not read that particular post and move on instead of ripping into someone in a personal way because of their content. Im so sorry you had to deal with the negativity…yours is one of my favorites and Im so happy for you that you get paid for all of your HARD WORK!! And remember, that reader’s comment had a whooooole lot more to do with the state of their heart than it did with your content.

  26. I’m sorry that people hurt your feelings. (I wear my heart on my sleeve, too.) Try to ignore them, keep your sweet attitude and more forward. Thanks for sharing a bit of your life with us. I, for one, appreciate it.

  27. I love your blog even though I am now in my Meme stage of life! Keep doing what your doing and many of us support you in your finding a way to support your family as many ( most) of us have done in our lives. Blessings to you sweet girl! Phyllis aka Meme!

  28. I love your blog. There are always going to be negative people – and I guarantee the person who wrote that probably complains about a lot of things. I follow many blogs and occasionally someone will have a sponsored blog. I understand and would want the bloggers I follow who put in countless hours for my blogging enjoyment, to be repaid or benefit in some manner. If I’m not interested in the sponsor, I just don’t read the whole post that day; but there have also been times I have been interested or have even checked into the product. Please don’t let the person’s comments question what you do or feel like you have to justify it. :-)

  29. I don’t remember how i found your blog but what keeps me coming back daily is your transparency and how you share your faith without being preachy. I am a mother of 3 adult girls and now i find myself striving to be a grandma of influence to 3 boys all under 4 years old. I enjoy your comments about raising 4 boys and “bless your heart” comments from strangers makes me laugh. i look to your blog not only for decorating ideas but also reading posts about your boys. I admit I skipped over the kleenex but now that i know you make money from clicks, i will go back to that post and click away!

  30. I thought it was actually a cute blog regarding the Kleenex. I always look for the boxes that blend in with my décor and to see that a company is actually putting some thought into marketing a product so frequently used and making it attractive is awesome to me! Part of this blog is you exercising many aspects of your life, ideas, family and home. If you can get compensated for the things you love, then you are not working for yourself, but you help us, too. There is always going to be someone who is “not pickin up what your laying down!” And that’s why we live in the greatest place ever! We have choices, and if you help me pick out and purchase a box of tissues, well I say, “thank you Madame.”

  31. I really like your blog. One thing I will say about the sponsored posts is that they come in waves in blogland. I must have seen at least 10 posts on blogs about Kleenex. I just had to laugh about it. It seems to me that the company would have spread out the time that this would happen so that folks aren’t inundated. On the other hand, maybe I follow too many blogs. Keep doing what you want to do and don’t let the negative stuff get you down.

  32. Seriously! Someone took time out to complain about a Kleenex post. The ridiculousness of that just messes with me. I wish I could remember how I found your blog but I can’t. However, your blog, Cyndi’s and Robin at All Things Heart and Home are my top three favorites that I look at everyday. There are some days that what you girls post are not things that I’m totally interested in but if I don’t check I feel like I haven’t checked in with a friend. Other days things that you post are totally things that I like or need and I pass on and share with other friends. My momma always says, if you can’t say something good about somebody, don’t say anything at all.

  33. I love your blog and can’t wait to read it every day. Have a great weekend and don’t let a Negative Nancy get you down.

  34. Ignore the nay-sayers. I get your blog digest in my e-mail. I saw the post and figured it wasn’t something I was all that interested in and moved on. No biggie. Why do people feel they have to make a special effort to be negative? It would have taken less time and effort if this person would have just moved along.

I guess maybe I’m not so self centered that I think every article you post MUST speak to me like this other person obviously feels. I actually enjoy sponsored posts because lots of times they introduce me to new products.

  35. I don’t usually mind your ‘sponsored’ posts, but I’ll be honest – when I wind up reading 6 or 7 similar posts on other blogs I follow, it irritates me. It’s just that many blogs are very different now from how they used to be in the beginning but C’est la vie.

I would never comment negatively about it, but the thought of ‘unfollowing’ has and does cross my mind.

I still have enjoyed seeing how far you’ve come and wish you well.

  36. Your blog was the first blog that I ever read. I never even new blogs existed until I stumbled upon Beneath My Heart. That was four years ago. You have been such an inspiration for me. I love decorating diy-ing and hope some day to start a blog. I just hope when I do mine will be as successful as yours.

  37. Love you, Traci! I’m still reading. :) Blogging is so much more work than people realize. You are a wonderful blogger – and a great mom. So glad you are able to be home for your boys when they need you. You are loved!!

  38. Not only did I read this post, I read every comment! I LOVE your blog and I say to whoever feels different…there’s the door…{or red X) Hang in there…there will always be naysayers!!

  39. Traci, I feel like reading your blog feeds my soul every day! As a matter of fact, I saved your “Sunday Encouragement” post and just happened to print it earlier today. Your blog is one of the only ones I look forward to reading. Being able to stay home is a blessing–kudos to you for being able to do what you love and be able to financially help your family.

  40. Traci, like my morning cup of tea, reading your blog is a part of my daily routine. I love your DIY projects, but mostly I read because I love you. Anyone can see that your heart belongs to The Lord. You are funny and talented and beautiful and real and you have been a blessing to me. I learned some time ago that we can not control the actions/words of other people. We can only control how we react and you do that with such humility. I just love ya. Hugs.

  41. Traci, you can’t please everyone all the time. This I know for sure. I worked for myself in a service business and some days you wanted to pull your hair out from groveling to please. I just got to the point that I thought to myself, well she had a bad day and I was the lucky one who got the brunt of it. It’s life darling, don’t worry about one person, write God a little note and give it to him, he will take care of it. In the meantime I love your blog and read it every day, and you are doing what you need to do to look after your family…. enough said.. I like it… give it to him, he will take care of it. Hugs and have a great day tomorrow at church.

  42. Just a note to confirm all the positive comments about your blog Traci. I love to read your blog and especially have enjoyed learning about your Mother in your Wednesdays with Wanda posts. God bless you, please don’t be discouraged by negative comments.

  43. Dear Sweet Traci…I felt so bad reading that some sad person turned on you over KLEENEX!
I have always noticed that people who are miserable with their lives love to spread that misery around. I hope the hateful person who ruined your day feels better, but I doubt she does.
Please don’t let this person worry you. You have so many appreciative followers who love you and your blog. Personally, I admire your for having the skills and dedication to do what you do.

  44. Traci…no problemo! Don’t worry about it! Love your posts! And I personally use paper towels for my nose business!

  45. Chin up friend! Anyone who follows your blog knows that you are uncompromisingly honest and hold onto your values. We know you wouldn’t promote a product that you wouldn’t use or don’t believe in.

If there is a post about a product that I am not interested in I don’t read it, that’s it, I’ll be back tomorrow to see what you are up to :)

An occasional sponsored post that I can choose to ignore if I want to is a small price to pay for all your great ideas, motivation and kind, uplifting words!

  46. Just like Glenna said, you can’t please everyone all of the time. I hadn’t had the opportunity to read the post until your heart to heart note, but I have to say that was a cute post! I don’t shop often for tissues, but when I do, I end up purchasing the ones that are cute because I am the one looking at it on my desk or in my home and I like things to look nice. I even brought my own box to work because the ones that our purchaser bought did nothing for me-the ones I brought in were so cheery!

  47. There are some posts that I love love love and some that don’t interest me at Ll. However I am never offended. It is all in perspective. It’s you don’t like the post, wait until the next one and you’ll be wowed. Keep up the good work and don’t worry what the naysayer say

  48. I love your blog and enjoy all your diy’s. I also have to say that I enjoy the sponsored posts and am thrilled that bloggers are out there able to promote items and make money doing so! Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing it with us!

  49. I love your blog – the first one I followed also. Don’t worry about the negative comment – I’m sure the positive far outweighs the negative. Your posts are always interesting – enjoyable! Smile!

  50. I’ve never written but I do follow you, Traci and you’re an inspiration to me. Don’t pay any attention to the naysayers!

  51. I just want to stay that I love your blog and have no problem with sponsored posts. It takes a ton of work to write a blog and you should be able to make money off of it. There are always going to be negative people out there and when someone says something nasty, it says more about them than it does about you! Enjoy your weekend!
    -Shelley

  52. love your blog and lets hope that person was just not feeling well that day etc. I must say she is probably the same woman that would be critical of a woman with 4 young men still at home deciding to work outside the home. Yet, with this unique way of financially contributing to the household WHILE STILL BEING IN THE HOME lets find something to criticize. I say three cheers for being so clever and industrious. Go Traci

  53. I just don,t understand mean people. I actually enjoyed the post yesterday, but if I hadn’t I would have ignored it and moved on! I love your blog and just hate when people are rude.

  54. You do a lovely job! It’s frightening to think what jealousy does to some people! Keep up yout wonferful blog….I love it!

  55. oh my dear,
do not let one bad comment ruin your day. So what you do not care for pretty Kleenex boxes skip the post. DONE very simple!!!!!
May be that person just simply had too much time on here hands, if so SAY SOMETHING NICE… IT TAKES JUST AS MUCH TIME —right?
I enjoy your posts and by the way, who thinks that you spend all this time without wanting to make some money….??? and WHO could ever satisfy everybody???
YOU JUST KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOUR HEART TELLS YOU TO DO AND ALL WILL BE FINE.
God Bless you and your family
    Edith

  56. ….Yes, you can never please everyone, and you are definitely pleasing many with your positive and informative blog! Your blog is your passion and you are able to continue doing what you love because it is financially rewarding….and how great is that!!! I missed the Kleenex post so will have to go back and take a peek. I am sure it rises to the caliber of your other posts, and is uplifting and encouraging as well! Keep on with what you are doing!

  57. I am so glad to see the support you are getting in these comments. I love your blog and seeing stories about your family and home. I didn’t even realize that clicking on the links included would give you extra income….now I will be sure to click on them. Keep up the good work. I am happy to see that such a wonderful mother has found a way to stay at home with her children and still earn some income.

  58. I have to agree with LindaSonia above. And just this week I did ‘unfollow’ a blog that I could no longer tolerate the constant sales pitch. But I don’t feel that applies to your Blog. Don’t let the comment hurt your feelings, think of it a self-check, which you did and can be assured now that you are not over the top with sponsered posts. Maybe the commentor had just read 5 other sponsered posts and she responded to your post. More bloggers should do what you did and ask how their followers feel about these issues. Kudos to you and best wishes.

  59. Coming from someone who is in the same position {and also worked with Kleenex on this campaign} I know exactly how you feel. It is so hard to find that balance and yet it’s an integral part of making all of the FREE content we provide possible.
You are an amazing blogger and also such a positive blessing to so many of us. Sponsored posts are just a reality sometimes. Be encouraged by all of the positive and not the one negative comment. xoxo

  60. Sweetie…Just let me say from experience in my own life…there will always be someone in the “crowd Of life” that you will not please…Take it with a grain of salt and keep on keeping on…..You are a true inspiration to me and I look so forward to reading and learning from you….God Bless you & yours and know you are unique and loved…….

  61. You have allowed God to bless others through you, so don’t stop now. I’m sad that you had negatives invade your site, however,we are told to pray for our enemies. You have amny, many people that stand beside you. Sending oddles of hugs and love. I SHALL be praying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. Traci, I read each and everyone of your blog post. I want to tell you that I have never posted a comment on any of the blogs I read until today. Do all of your posts suit my needs or taste? No way, however I still enjoy reading them and attempting many of them. No onE should blame anyone for making money to care for their family, and this person should be ashamed of herself. Every time someone makes something, or learns, something from your post, you have given a part of yourself to them. I admire that. So keep up the good work and put her out of your mind. I think I read somewhere in a post that you were from Kentucky. I moved to Kentucky a year and a half ago. Good luck in all you do.

  63. I liked the Kleenex post. I only missed one. I wondered how the money thing worked. You’re doing a great job. Keep it up.

  64. Traci, I know that negative comments can hurt but please try and ignore them. I admire the fact that you have been able to make some money from your blog, GOOD FOR YOU ! What do some people think the world is about? Would the same person who left you negative comment be prepared to write and share so many wonderful ideas and projects for free? God provides for people as HE see’s fit and he has given you the talent to inform and entertain many of us with your blog and enabled you to earn a living so please keep doing what you are doing and ignore the negative people out there

  65. There is an old saying I grew up with… You can’t please everyone all the time…. You are a very gifted person and ever so talented. My prayers are with you. Just remember… Your curator will always open the door and gently close it.

  66. I have never understood these people that feel the need to leave negative comments or emails. If they don’t like your blog anymore, they can stop reading it any time. I love your blog! You are awesome blogger and I have learned so much from you! Most of all I love your heart for Jesus and the way your strive to glorify Him with your life, your family, and your blog! Your mom would be very proud of the way you are handling this. :) This post was well-written and handled very nicely. Consider me a reader who is sticking around no matter what! Love from a sister in Christ!

  67. Keep up the great work. Unfortunately there are people who are negative and critical and try to build themselves up by bringing others down. Shame on them.

  68. I enjoy your blog and am not bothered by sponsored posts. We all need to support our families and I am so happy for anyone that can do this by working from home. Even if I don’t intend on reading a sponsored post, I try to go to the blog in order to help that person make a little money. Some people are just mean. I am a fellow Christian and Kentucky girl and you have my support for what its worth :-).

  69. Traci, I have been reading your blog for some time I believe I stumbled across a post you did just after the baby shower for baby Colt. I was looking on the internet for something and the name of your blog appeared, which intrigued me since My Mother was adopted and one of her favorite poems was;
    ~ The Adoption Creed~

    Not flesh of my flesh
    nor bone of my bone,
    but still miraculously my own.

Never forget for a single minute,
that you grew not under my heart,
    but in it.

somehow from the title of your blog and even until today we are somehow “connected” You also carry the same name as my eldest child and through your DIY and various creative projects and the fact that we lost our Mothers around the same time I feel we are very much in sync. With that being said I must tell you that you are a beautiful, wonderful, and powerful voice and a loving soul in the community of God. I think our blog is wonderful, many ideas and instructive posts that would otherwise go unknown. The fact that someone would complain that you used ads to supplement you income is ludicrous to me. Does she refuse to watch TV because there are commercials. I don’t think so. Perhaps she was just having a bad day and needed to take it out on someone. Don’t take it personally. You never know what kind of life that person is dealing with so just consider the source and move on. Count you blessings and wish her a better day tomorrow. Absolutely do not take offense You are a blessing I thank the Lord for all the time. Never question the good you do or apologize for helping your family. Keep doing what your doing there are thousands of us that wouldn’t trade you for another everywhere! Have a Happy Day! Love, Deb

  70. After reading all the supportive comments you have already recieved, I hardly need to add a thing. I had already read a Kleenex post on another blog. I even clicked over to the Kleenex site. So when I saw your Kleenex post I laughed and said to myself “Kleenex is sure hitting up all the bloggers this month”…and so what? You are always very clear when you mention any product in your blog if it is a sponsored post. And I like knowing how and where I can get a product you mention. I’m glad you have tested it out before I buy it. I like the sponsored posts for that reason! I don’t want to see them every single blog, and you don’t do that. Soooo, the rotten comment you received could have been a blessing in disguise. It allowed you to reexamine what you do and get feedback from your followers. That is always a good thing. And you certainly do not ever have to justify why you do what you do! At least to me, and it sounds like the rest of your followers feel the same way. Please keep on as you have been and know you are helping people everyday with your bright, funny, inspiring, and encouraging posts!!!!!

  71. It always amazes me how BOLD and RUDE people get be when they are behind a keyboard…..let it go…..they live among us!!

  72. Traci, you are an inspiration and an amazing woman!
I love that you share your faith in Jesus, your projects, your decorating ideas, how you live frugally, and most of all sharing about your lovely family!
Keep on managing your blog the way you have!

  73. Traci,

My dear precious friend. I have followed you for many years, and have never felt like you had too many sponsored posts. This girl eagerly awaits your blog posts. I love reading about your adventures in making this new home a “home” for you and your precious family. Love, love the posts about the boys watching them grow has been a gift you might not have realized you gave us but it is.

So you keep doing exactly what the good Lord says to do. You do exactly what you have been doing and if you lost a reader “so be it” anyone that has followed you for long knows your heart.
This blog is yours so you just keep being Traci and we will all just keeping loving you.

I would like to hear updates on your dad and Janet, how they are doing. I prayed for your daddy when your mom first went on to glory. And so glad he has found someone to spend his life with.

Love you and have a great day.

  74. Of course you Should do sponsored post sometimes! You do so many projects that take a lot of dollars to produce. I think it’s great you have been able to build your blog in to a business that helps support your family. The annoyed reader has gotten free entertainment for as long as she has been reading. No one has made her read, it was her own choice. I don’t think she will find many blogs that don’t have some sponsored posts and I think bloggers should get something back for the hard work producing a blog, especially daily posts. I have a new blog and don’t have but about 2 regular readers. If I do ever get any readers and have some longevity I would be thrilled to be able to do a sponsored post once in a while. I find the bloggers I read always take great care to only do a sponsored post on products they feel their readers would be interested in anyway. And YES we love a great give away!!! Keep up the great work as you always have. Hugs.

  75. I LOVE your blog. I’d gladly pay for most info. It’s a win/win I read for free AND you get paid = AWESOME. To anyone who doesn’t like sponsored posts, take what you like and delete the rest. God Bless You

  76. isn’t there an old saying “you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time”? I say who cares! you put your heart and soul into this ALL the time and if you make a buck GOOD for you. Love your blog!

  77. I would like to share with you how very much I love your blog. I have been silently reading your blog for just over a year now and have never before commented. My 12 year daughter was badly injured just over a year ago and when I have a moment or two I love to read your blog and let my mind be carried away to your inspiring words and beautiful pictures. Please don’t change your blog. It has been most uplifting during a very difficult time in my life and I thank you for this!

  78. Don’t let that person bug ya. I LOVE YOUR BLOG and all of the content….especially the yummy recipes and the stories about your family and the projects and the Friday favorites…..ok get it, LOVE everything you do!!!!! Keep on doing it!!!!!

  79. So sorry that you were upset by “her” comment. So what if she doesn’t “like” your blog, there are many, many of us who do and who understand what you are doing. There are other blogs out there for “her” to peruse. You and “we” do not need negative comments. It’s kind of like a TV show, if you don’t like the content, then change the channel. I for one, truly enjoy your blog and have no problem with sponsored posts. You are an inspiration to me and I look forward to all your posts.

  80. Good grief…you are doing a wonderful job! Please keep your chin up. I pick kleenex to fit in my home depending on shape and decor. So guess that person would not like that. I truly thought it was cute!

  81. I read your blog, as often as I can. Although I don’t comment all of the time, I truly appreciate you and your writing. I’ve followed you for a long time. If I don’t care to read a sponsored post, I just don’t read it. But I will never complain about it or leave a negative comment. I am so sorry that person had to leave such a negative comment. Keep moving forward. You are a blessing!

  82. You frequently comment or discuss something I am not familiar with. I never knew about the Silhouette until I read it on your post. I was able to research it as I do many of the other things you mention. I get giddy every time you have a giveaway now. For every reader that doesn’t like the ads, please know that you are passing along information that has some significance to your blog. It is worthwhile. Don’t worry about the one you lose. You can’t please everyone.

  83. Hi Traci,

Remember what we’d tell our boys – not everyone is going to like you. Someone sounds a little jealous. I understand how it can hurt your feelings. What caught my eye is Right? My own cousin (a single mom) was going through a divorce and I sent her 500 through paypal to help with rent. Well I didn’t sent it correctly and I paid a eee and she only got $480 and change. This was pointed out to me (Really) I also took her some clothes in her size to get her a good start. Well getting back to Right? I say that all of the time. She told me it made me sound insecure and that I needed reassurance! I can’t tell you what I said – but I followed it with…Right?! Hmm? I never looked back! Ignore the haters – I enjoy your blog. If someone doesn’t like the color – they can paint it another one. Duh! There a lot of mean, unhappy, and jealous people in the world. Especially women. We need to lift each other up – not put each other down! You run your blog the way you feel fit! If someone doesn’t like something – say ok, thanks or letting me know. Then a quick delete button. (Then say too bad so sad to yourself and smile :)

  84. What ever happened to “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all?” I follow a lot of blogs for different reasons and I’ve learned over the years that it is a hobby for some and a JOB for others. I actually saw the Kleenex display at Sam’s club but did not really look at it until I saw your post. I liked what I saw and when I went to Walmart, I purchased several boxes. I like my tissue boxes to compliment my room colors! So thanks to you, I saw the product really for the first time and a sell resulted from it. You do what you love doing. I will read and continue to support and refer my friends to you blog. I may not always have an interest in what you are posting(rarely), but I always read your blog and take what works for me from it. Stay strong and blessed!

  85. Love your blog and I think “negative nellie” will have a hard time finding a decorating blog that is not sponsored. I actually like the sponsors..gives us the details on where to buy materials to duplicate the project! …and who doesn’t need tissues..I really liked the box in the first pic. Keep up the good wk :)

  86. Traci,
I had to get out my “Kleenex” tissues because I’m so upset that you’re upset. It’s been said before but it’s worth repeating, please ignore the negative. You do a fabulous job and we love ya!

    Jane~

  87. Sadly, when you deal with the public, you are always going to find someone out there like this lady. I worked with the public for many years and have been a victim of this kind of person more than I care to remember. Just let it roll off your shoulders, Traci. She probably was having a bad day and you just got the raw end of it. (I’m sorry for that!) Those of us who enjoy your blog are going to be here for you, as many have stated! People like that aren’t the kind of person that you want taking up your time and energy anyways. <3

  88. I just clicked on the Kleenex link to show you my appreciation for your blog. You hooked me with your Wednesday with Wanda posts! Every single one of them made me cry. You are a beautiful, sweet, and honest person. You deserve to earn an income for your work. Thanks for sharing your heart with all of us!

  89. hahaha, You girl, laugh all the way to the bank. You gotta do what you gotta do, we all do. I wonder who is paying -miss nasty nose (since she don’t care for kleenex) to sit around and complain? She must be the Boss, where-ever she works lol. I do have to say kleenex made a big boo-boo. They paid toooooo many people to make a sales pitch the same day/week. Tip for you maybe next time do a tut on something you make to hide the tissues in, or even better remember tissue flowers??? Keep up the good work.

  90. Oh Traci!! There’s not much to add after reading all the support you are getting. And I agree, it’s part of the blogging world now. You are entitled to use this as income for your family and if that includes sponsored posts than so be it ! God bless your heart. You do a great job. You will never please everyone. God first and then your husband and family. I’m sorry you were so hurt by her awful comments. You are doing a great job so keep on going girl!! Love & hugs to you !!

  91. Ignore the negative. There is always someone out there ready to put you down. You don’t deserve it! I enjoy your blog

  92. Some people have a harder time than others “getting it”. Those people tend to seem selfish. Really they are, they only think about themselves, and are not understanding of the reality or entire situation…..I try to blame it on their wireing. lol You are a dear and I love your blog and I totally hope that you are offered (and accept) many sponsored posts!

  93. I would never comment negatively on a sponsored post, I don’t understand why people feel the need to do that. But I’ll be honest, I’ve stopped reading blogs because I feel like I’m being “sold” something way too often. That doesn’t sit well with me. There’s too much good content out there, and my time is too limited. I don’t want to feel like I’m reading thru too many commercials.

  94. This is not rocket science. We have a culture that feeds on consumerism. Companies who meet our wants and needs will naturally take advertising to where the buyers are. Sweet people who just want to raise their families and provide well ought to take advantage of those opportunities if available. And seriously, anyone who doesn’t get how much time it takes to blog needs a reality adjustment. Technology is such that a title usually clues a reader in to a sponsored post, so if one doesn’t want to read, then don’t, right?! Hugs! Eat a piece of chocolate! :)

  95. I read your blog all the time, but hardly ever (if ever) comment. i wanted to take the time to comment on this because i feel it is important. Please don’t ever feel you have to justify what you put on your blog. it is your blog. sponsor it up, make all the references you can… it is still a good read (I hope i am making sense because i have a migraine and my brain is absent today, but i still wanted to comment. it is that important to me) This former reader could have just stopped reading your blog if she didn’t want to read about sponsors. she most certainly didn’t have to be such a prat! she did that to make you feel bad. she is nothing but a bully. you owe no one a reason as to why you blog about anything. i read it for insight, tips, and it’s just a darn fun read. continue that. don’t let some negative nelly, big old bruiser bully, change the way you blog. It makes me so sad that you went back and tried to find what had angered her so much. it makes me mad that you were questioning your content and what you had posted. I don’t want you to start to resent blogging. Please don’t start worrying about every post (whether it fits other’s criteria) and not post what is in your heart. don’t change a thing. keep being awesome! k? xxxxxxxxx

PS make next week a sponsor only week. post only about sponsors =) That will show that bully!

  96. Not only do I support you in doing sponsored posts, but now that I know you get paid for every click, I’m going to click a lot more. Yours is one of my favorite blogs and not just for the DIY stuff but also for your faith and to hear about your wonderful family.

    1. I was just about to say almost exactly the same words Cindy has said … so I’ll just say a big … DITTO!!! :) :) Gods richest Blessings to you and your sweet family. xxxxxx

  97. Oh sweetie, just consider the source. There are so many of us who just love your blog and follow you with such love and respect. You are all about heart, don’t let one person who doesn’t have one break yours! Keep on teaching, creating, guiding, and leading with your heart, that’s who you are.

  98. You’re amazing at what you do, both with your blog and taking care of your family! Don’t let a negative comment here or there take away from all those who appreciate you!

  99. IYour blog is a great mix of everything…from your preciious boys, to Cy’s awesome remodels, to your great projects and tips. This is also your business. I run a business that feeds my family and II don’t do it for free. The comment bothered you because you are an exceptional person and that is why we all love reading your blog. :)

  100. Poopoo on negative comments! Love your blog and keep up the great work! We all have to make a living! I follow both of your blogs, I don’t always comment on them but I ALWAYS look for my email updates everyday to see what you have been up to!

  101. I actually thought the Kleenex post was cute. No one forces us to read blogs. If we don’t like something, we can just skip it. Complaining about it is not necessary! Keep up the great work!

  102. I actually walked into my bathroom today and saw the kleenex box and thought to myself “I need to look for those cute ones that Traci blogged about.” And I LOVE your Lowe’s DIY projects.

  103. Oh, I’m so sad for you that you had a bad comment. I don’t always read all sponsored posts, but living in free countries as we do, that’s the beauty of it – we can click that little box in the corner with the x if we don’t want to read! I feel sorry for someone who has to make a point of making you feel bad when all they had to do was just not read. I don’t remember if I’ve commented here before or not, but you’re on my bloglovin feed from here as well as “Organize and Inspire”, and I have been inspired, many, MANY times. Thanks so much for your hard work! (I’m trying to figure out how to make my kitchen look like yours.)

  104. Tracy, yours is one of my favourite blogs. You provide lots of great inspiration to a lot of people. I would say most of us understand that you have to make money from your blog to help support your family. Don’t let that one reader’s comments upset you. I imagine she probably watches TV and would obviously have to watch commercials. I could understand her comments if you were always promoting a product, but you don’t. And most products you promote are products that are of interest to most of your readers and useful in DIY projects. The sponsored posts are worth it for all the great projects you show us on your blog. Keep it up!

  105. I’m a relatively new follower and I love your blog. (if I didn’t, I wouldn’t follow it) Keep up the good work and don’t worry about people that have the time to complain. Most of us don’t love every blog post on every blog, but that’s okay. I don’t feel the need to read the ones that don’t interest me. I just wanted to say, thank you for what your blog has brought to my life. By the way, I did like that blog post very much! Keep up the good work! Blessings, Kim

  106. You just keep doing the great job your doing! If we don’t want to read a sponsor post, then just pass it by. No need to be nasty.
I also love hearing Jonathan singing,
Bless you Traci and ignore the hateful people. Someone else said this already but worth repeating…..say a prayer for that person.

  107. I am new to the whole blogging thing but, I am enjoying your blog very much. Keep on going and try not to let the negatives get you down.

  108. Traci, I love your blog & all of your DIY projects. They inspire me to create in my home. Most of all I appreciate how you share your faith in God. I am a Christian & you bring beautiful words of encouragement. Keep doing what God has set before you. You & your family are in my prayers.

  109. you have a great blog. you are a working woman, and you are sharing your work with us, along with your life. People are free to read, or move on. The gal who left because she wasn’t getting anything out of your blog anymore has bigger issues. Blogging is give and take. She clearly just want to take, has nothing positive to give.
    Have peace, sweet Traci. :-)

  110. You do not owe anyone an explanation for making an honest living. Your reader took the opportunity to express her feelings via the comment section (which is why we have it, after all) and that is her right as well. My advice is to read the negative ones, take an honest look and see if they are perhaps correct and then make a decision based on your analysis. And dont offer any explanations to anyone for what you do!

  111. I think the old addage applies here, if you can not post anything positive, then hit the delete button…lolo…We all will never love everything, but it is your blog and you need to do as you need to or it will end up as some of the other blogs I used to follow. They will be closed down because the blogger decided it was no longer worth it. So keep on doing what you are doing.

  112. I love your blog and I love your sweet little heart. Please don’t change a thing.
Here’s my take on it; I go to Barnes & Nobles, spend $$$ on magazines and 1/2 of my money is spent on ads. Very little content is decorating and recipes, but I still buy them for the content and inspiration they do offer. Your blog and others that I read daily cost me nothing. So if you write a sponsored post once and awhile, why would I complain? You share so much with your readers not just great ideas, you share your heart and faith.
It is sad there are those who use their words to tear others down, when it would be easier to just click away. You’re precious and I wouldn’t want to go through a week without a little BMH fix

  113. Sweetie, there is 123 postings to 1. Please don’t give it the time of day. Some people are jealous and only know how to lash out. I feel like your grandmother and honey I hate to see you hurt but this too shall pass. You have a wonderful blog and a lot of people enjoy what you have to say. Now there is 124 to 1.

    God Bless

  114. Well, I guess “we” showed her! I’m guessin’ you can’t help but the feel the love from your fans here!

Someone made that lady feel bad and she took her insecurity out on you, trying to make her feel better about herself. I love what someone said about buying a magazine and it is full of ads and your blog is like a free magazine! Sponsor away!!!

Now my only question is, what am I supposed to be clicking on to check out to get you more $? Shoot, if I knew more about blogging I would be clicking on that stuff over and over again for ya!!

Keep being you sweetie!!!! We luv ya!!

    P

  115. I dont understand how people can be so critical and downright mean to others. I treat people the way I would want to be treated. I do so love your blog and I pray that God richly blesses you, your family, and this blog. Thank you for taking the time each day to make this blog of yours so charming!!

  116. I love your blog. I have no problem with sponsored posts. If I didn’t trust your opinion I wouldn’t be a subscriber. Simple.

  117. Since reading that particular blog it gave me the idea to replace my old shop brand name tissues with decorative ones so that I don’t feel that I have to hide them away as they add some colour to the décor. I live in Spain & I’m determined to find some as pretty as in your blog so please ignore that person they’re obviously too easily annoyed & think of all your other regular readers that you have & continue to inspire ;) Thanks Cheryl x

  118. I love your blog! I actually pick out my Kleenex so it matches the room I’m going to put it in…this also the reason my husband isn’t allowed to pick it out b/c he’ll just grab the first thing he sees. ha! You just keep doing what you’re doing and don’t worry about one snarky person. God Bless!

  119. This was one of the first blogs I started following and it continues to be one of my favorites! I think you do an awesome job.

  120. There will always be someone out there with a negative comment for something positive you are doing. Don’t let them take your joy. I’m a teacher friend that really enjoys your blog! God bless you.

  121. I had to scroll for eons just to leave a comment, so I know you’re getting the encouragement you deserve! Thank you for sharing your heart and your reality – we all need to do what we need to do for our families so kudos to you, my friend! Hugs – xo Heidi

  122. Some people want EVERYTHING for FREE. It’s a ME ME ME ME world!

I just “ditto” all the supportive comments and ask you to keep up the good work! In the meantime, I’m gonna CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!

  123. Hi Traci,
I think your blog is wonderful! Not long ago, I had gotten so caught up in reading blogs that I had subscribed to over 100. Needless to say, I was spending wayyyyyyy to much time just reading them. I enjoyed all of them and really would have loved to keep them all but just couldn’t. I went through and picked out a few of the ones I enjoy the most and yours was one of them. When I looked at yours yesterday I just skipped it because I already know I love Kleenex. But it didn’t make me mad. We love you out here and you keep up the great work. God bless you and you family!

  124. Traci, I think your blog is great and so are you. I owe you a thank you! Last month we were installing wood counter tops and I e mailed you for advice, you replied promptly and I realized there really was a warm and caring person writing this blog. I meant to thank you then, but we were so wrapped up in the project I didn’t and I am sorry.
I know it is hard, but try to ignore the negative. You are doing a great job, and I will continue to read your beautiful blog for inspiration.

  125. Sponsored posts are such a tricky gray area in blogging. I think that as long as the post matches the author’s regular “voice” as a writer and there is still some redeeming value in the post aside from the sponsored item (a DIY tutorial, styling tip, or organization advice) I usually enjoy sponsored posts just as much as regular content. It’s when a post sounds stiff and is only a plug for a product that I get turned off.

  126. Tracie, DON’T let negative comments get to you. You have a wonderful blog and I love it. Your comments are so uplifting when I am having a bad day. There are SOOO many negative people in the world and in my opinion they shouldn’t be the reason for making us happy people sad.

  127. Someone once told me when I had received a hurtful remark to TRY to step back, see if any part of the criticism is true and deal with that. It sounds as though you have done that. As everyone has said, there will always be negative people. She knows how to unsubscribe if that is what she wishes to do. I love your blog and get good ideas for it….especially for decorating on a budget. You have a blessed weekend also.

  128. Traci, I’ve been following your blog for about a year. I was heart broken for you when you tried to go back to teaching to help support your family and your “Heart” wasn’t in it. Sponsored posts are not my favorite, but sometimes I learn about new products that I wouldn’t have known about with the sponsored post. So they can be a good thing. You are so giving to us that a sponsored post is just one of those things! Keep the faith in what you are doing. We love you and your family!

  129. Your blog is amazing; I have been wanting to start a blog for a few years and yours is an inspiration for me. I ask myself if I am really ready for the negative comments that some people leave? will it discourage me?; I read many blogs and apparently this happen to all of them. Then I read all the positive, uplifting comments and realize that there are more good people reading those blogs and that is what makes it worth it. You are sharing what you love and believe in and that says something about you. Get past the one that wants to stray, 99.9% of your readers would be sad to see you go.

  130. Traci, it’s such a blessing to me to read your blog. I think it’s so sweet that you took the time to justify sponsored posts. And, that sweetness is 100% in character and the reason I enjoy your faith-filled, genuineness. I’ve told you before, yours is one of the few blogs I read word for word and treasure each post. Many times I just skim through for ideas and overall thoughts when I feel bloggers are less genuine and focused more on the impression than their impact. Your sponsored posts have not changed my outlook on this blog one bit!:)

  131. I adore your blog. I’ve just begun a blog for our design company and have so much to learn. You have been an inspiration. Thank you.
Remembering these truths with you: Psalm 31.:3, Proverbs 16:3&9, and of course, Proverbs 24:3&4.
Love seeing God bless you and your sweet family.
I have to tell you, of the 6 in our team 4 of us are moms. Two have 3 boys and 1 has 4 boys like you! Hmmm. A prerequisite to going into design? :)

    Barb

  132. I read this whole post and it confirmed why I always enjoy visiting you. You have a lot of love in your heart that comes through. You are also a very encouraging person, and I appreciate the brightness that you add to my day.
So, although I didn’t read the Kleenex post (guilty!) I’m going to go there now and click everything I can so you will get paid more. :)
    Have a wonderful week!

  133. Ditto! Your personality, kindness, family closeness, faith & DIY are the reasons I love your blog and keep coming back. The projects have helped me create instead of watch from the side-lines. Your faith had me realign with the power of prayer. And your family values have enriched my own, tenfold. The smiles pouring from your writing have become infectious, so I look forward to be welcomed into your world with each passing day. There are so many positives here from friends who have embraced you as one of their ‘gang’ that the obvious decision here would be to shelf that single negative opinion in a mason jar with a pretty decorative top and store it in the back of your cupboard. We learn through life lessons, not everyone will love us no matter how hard we try; and that, my friend is the lesson gifted to you by

  134. Keep on doing what you do Traci. I enjoy everything on your blog! You can’t make everyone happy, so do your best and don’t worry about the negative nellies. Some people just enjoy being unhappy and trying to bring everyone else down with them.

  135. Traci,
As I’ve said to you before, I LOVE your blog! I’m ignorant as to how these blogs work….it’s good to know you get paid for how many clicks you receive on certain content!! That nasty comment that the enemy intended for discouragement will be turned around to encourage you and PROSPER you even more!!! Now let me get to clicking for my friend!

    Blessings to you!!!!

  136. I am so sorry that happened to you. As a fellow blogger, I’m sure it is because people do not understand how much time and effort we put into providing quality content to our readers FOR FREE, just like you outlined in your post. It is really hard to read comments like that, especially when we work so hard. I am a fan, and will always be a fan sponsored posts or not!

  137. I’m surprised when someone takes the time to write something small and mean. Haven’t they ever heard “turn the channel?” I can’t imagine, the way you quoted her, that she was offering constructive criticism.

I don’t mind sponsored posts, but I dislike when someone’s so IN my FACE with the product every other paragraph. I don’t mind the subtle use of it in photos about another topic, or how it was used. I don’t mind the fact that you’re lucky and creative enough to maintain this blog for FIVE YEARS. Why be a hater over something so enjoyable.

I guess I’m also putting it out there that “you aint gotta pay no mind to dat.” Not worth the time it took her to write.
    Keep up the nice work!

  138. I read your posts often but I must admit Britnay +Pretty Handy Girl posed this question on her Facebook page. I am a huge fan of both of you. I recently started blogging because of blogs like yours. We all need to make a living. This person could have skipped the post and moved on to the next blog.
I think what I wanted to say to you is that it is sweet that you took the time to explain your feelings. Never should you waste your time to explain how you choose to lead your life or make your living.
The five years that you worked to build your blog into a business, I could bet some of your family budget went towards developing your blog. Unless this reader is willing to invest in your blog for your information let it roll of your back. Accept the many compliments you have received with grace and keep honoring your Mother. My guess is Wanda is smiling in Heaven with her wings all a Flutter!

  139. I need a KLEENEX after reading this! I love your heart and your blog! Thanks for sharing how the sponsored ads work….I’ve never had time to read blogs before so being a “newbie” I had no idea…not that it has every bothered me. But if an ad bothers a person, maybe they are a little on edge about something else? These things in life do not matter one bit!! And you can’t please everyone. I personally am happy to hear you are able to supplement some income in these hard times. And all the work you put into your blog IS NOT EASY!! Sorry someone hurt your feelings.

  140. Dear Sweet Traci – you are so kind. If you were not, this comment would not have bothered you. I say just let it go, and keep on doing what you’re doing, because you do it really well. G-d bless you and your family, and may your blogging business continue to be a blessing to others as it is to me.
    Blessings,
    GG

  141. Dear Traci,
I enjoy your blog so much. I do not feel you do too many sponsored post. Do not let one person or a few people effect who you are and what you write. It is great that you can be at home for your kids and help your hubby in his work. I love your blog!!

  142. I actually bought a box of those Kleenex (pretty purple ine)! I don’t guess it helped you out any, but it helped our favorite Kroger! Don’t worry about that comment, Traci. Here’s a quote that’s always helped me “dead to criticism; dead to praise”. That way we can just do what we know we’re supposed to do without any worries!

  143. It is your blog and you can write whatever you want. I do not care to read sponsored posts but I don’t think it is a problem if you want to write them. Do what you feel is necessary and do it as well as you can!

  144. I have been following your blog for a long time now and always look forward to all your post…sponsored or not. I hope you don’t let this person get to you! Your blog is great!

  145. I love the blog and don’t mind the sponsored content. There’s always gonna be somebody with something negative to say. “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”
    Hebrews 6:9-11

  146. I love your blog, Traci! It is one of my favorites. I don’t think everyone realizes how much time and effort blogging takes! Good for you for making it into something that can support your family and allow your husband to do something he loves! Bring on the sponsored posts! :)

  147. Obviously you hit a nerve! Sponsored content is necessary if you want to make a penny doing what you love. As a smaller blogger I have taken more than I necessarily would if my ad networks paid more with more pageviews. I also know most blog readers don’t know how it works and your post is a wonderful way to explain it. I’m going to share it on my fb page today.

I only made 1/3 in January of what I made in December. Wow. That’s a pretty big decrease, even for a smaller blog. I work more than 40 hours a week, not counting what my husband does to help me with the bigger projects. I love it and am passionate about it, but I’ve stayed home for 20 years without an income and even though I’m still homeschooling, bringing in an income helps! I blogged for 4 years without making a cent because I loved encouraging other moms, but when I made the decision to turn it into a business, it was a decision I consciously made to figure out how to get paid for something I love. Isn’t that the definition of a dream job?

Anyway, love you and your blog and know God will continue to bless it!

  148. Sorry you received such a negative comment. Thank you for explaining your situation & educating us on how a blog site works & the amount of time required to deliver great ideas, photos, & hints to us Free!!! Who would assume that anyone could do this without being compensated somehow? Love your blog.

  149. Your blog is your place, in that way your are totally free to talk about kleenex (or something else, let say ketchup) to post sponsored posts or afiliate ones or pure creative and original material. What’s wrong with that? Nothing. Follow your heart and your mind. If that doesn’t like to anyone, he or she is totally free to move on. But, negative criticism is not necesary in any blog monetize it or not. Go ahead Traci.

  150. I love that so many of your readers have come out to support you in making a living. As a reader, I understand you wanting or needing compensation for the content you provide for us. That’s fair. I don’t know the knitty gritty of the laws that require you to disclose that they’re sponsored posts, but I’m willing to give you the benefit of the doubt & assume that you’re complying with those laws when you place the disclosure at the bottom of the post.

However, you made the point that these posts are a “necessary” evil much like commercials – but the great thing about modern technology is that thanks to DVR, I’m given the opportunity to not be exposed to such advertising if I don’t want to (and I don’t). Why not make that opportunity available to your readers as well? I’m happy to click over from Feedly & give you the pageview, but scrolling through all the pictures only to find that it’s a sponsored post – situated under a giant advertisement, no less – leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If you were up front with it from the get-go, at the very top of the post, thereby giving me an active choice to subject myself to the advertising, I’d have much more respect for it. Transperancy is a wonderful thing.

I hope you understand that I mean no disrespect, and it’s not just you that I take this issue with. Again, I’m happy to support the work that you do – I just wish I was given more of a heads up vs. feeling duped in the name of money.

  151. I think it is absolutely wonderful to be able to have a passion for what you do, and then to be able to earn a little money at it too!! Great admiration for you for doing that! — and sharing it all with us too!!!

Hey, there are about 4 blogs I look at daily, and if they, by chance post something that day that I am not wanting to read on that particular day, then I just mosey along and in my mind and heart, wish them a good day.
THANK YOU, for sharing your life and your journey thru that life with us every day. We often forget the immense time that is spent on creating a daily blog – I appreciate you!!
    Have a wonderful day there!!

  152. Hi Tracy,
I love your blog and the sponsored ads have never bothered me, I actually enjoy clicking on them to see what they’re all about. Anyway, you have brought so much to your readers and please don’t let one negative comment discourage you from what you do best and that’s connecting with others through your talents and hard work! Keep up the great work! And, I’ve learned so much from visiting your blog. It’s opened up new doors for me that I will have to tell you about sometime. Thanks again and God bless you!
    Marjie

  153. I have always enjoyed reading your blog and have since the very beginning. Blogging started changing when advertisers started seeing how valuable an asset you all are. They took the opportunity to use blogs to gain an audience-how could they not? And blogs like yours take TIME to do–why wouldn’t you get paid for that? I would much rather have you compensated for your time by advertisers and such, rather than me having to pay money to subscribe to your content. I am not bothered by sponsored posts in general but if something doesn’t interest me, I simply skip the article.

Last thing, what I talked about above applies to most blogs that I read. However, you, Traci, are one of the special ones who takes the time to personally connect with your readers, either by comment or email. I have always appreciated that and is one of the reasons why your blog is something special. Keep your chin up, girl, you’re doing everything right :)

  154. Well, your site crashed for the Kleenex post so I couldn’t read the comments as i usually do. It’s so hard not to be hurt by criticism. I actually loved the silhouette giveaways and hope you’ll have another. Maybe i’ll eventually win!
I don’t mind sponsored posts one bit and if I’m not interested, I just don’t read that one. With the amount of time you spend on your blog, it would be hard to justify doing it without any sponsors. Keep it up and look at how many supporters took time from their day to “show their love” CTD

  155. Hi Traci…you commented on a post I made yesterday.. the plastic “shoe” holder that I have hanging by my shower for my shampoos and body and face products. AND.. I am SO glad that I took the time right then and there before reading this article from you, to tell you how much I LOVE your blog and then also to tell you how I have a canvas photo in my powder room that matches your small travel kleenex for your purse that you posted. so obviously, I too read all about the kleenex! And you know that how I fell about you is genuine, and has nothing to do with you sharing what you just shared. Of course when reading about the kleenex, I knew it was a sponsor of yours that you may be paid to promote..but that is reality! It is not why you started blogging..but the result of having a passion for what you do. I remember reading about starting a blog.. and it said,”if you’re starting the blog to earn money.. don’t bother, more then likely you won’t, but.. if you have a passion for something that you want to share with others,, then by all means, do so and who knows.. you just may earn a living doing so.” it’s hard not to allow the opinions of others to have an effect on how we feel, but with the encouragement of the majority of people who love you.. hopefully that will by far out weigh the minority!

  156. What kind of idiot does not understand that perhaps the content is free, but getting the content posted is NOT free. The finances needed for this type of enterprise can be surprising if you have never checked it out. I am sure that person thought she was doing you a favor, but the biggest favor she did for you was to walk away from your blog. My stars, if you don’t like what you are reading you stop reading it. What a negative person. I am sorry this hurt you, but the silver lining here is that you had an opportunity to explain why bloggers do sponsored posts. The bloggers that I follow on a regular basis only review items they feel comfortable with saying, “hey I tried this is was good”. I actually like that, because I trust them to recommend something that has value. I have come across some really cool things through bloggers sponsored posts that I would never have known about or never purchased without the blog recommendation. Mean words never lose their power to hurt, but you have the power to choose whether it means anything to you. Choose not to give her any more power over you.

  157. Just had to weigh in on this–
Just recently discovered your post due to a link from another blog–loved your style & writing etc. so I could keep reading you. The next time I read your blog was the day you posted the Kleenex post. I noted that it was sponsored & thought how cool is that–she’s good! I loved the whole thing about Kleenex & looked at all the photos. Loved them! Thought about buying cute boxes of Kleenex, which everyone needs so why not get the cute boxes. You put a ton of thought & time into that post. Keep on doing what you do–you are amazing!

  158. Hi Traci,
I am so sorry to hear someone was so mean and I totally understand why you would be hurt by such comments, but please don’t listen to that person. I personally love Kleenex and the decorative boxes make a difference to me since it is out year round in our home (allergies :-)) Your blog, as well as your sister’s, have been such an awesome blessing to me. I feel like you are both good friends that I keep in touch with through wonderful technology (although we have never met).It is obvious from the other comments how many of us love and support you. I hope you will take comfort in that and the fact that regardless of what you had on your blog, Jesus loves you :-). Please take care and have a blessed day. Hugs, Kathy

  159. Hi Traci,
Wow I am so sorry that someone was so mean, please don’t take it to heart. However, I totally understand why that would get to you, it would have gotten to me also. I personally love Kleenex and any decorative boxes. Due to allergies it is out in my home year round.

I have followed you and your sister for a while now. You have both been a blessing to me. Although we have never met, I feel like we are all friends that I keep in touch with through the wonders of technology.

I hope you will see from all of the comments that you are loved and supported by a lot of great folks. Above all, Jesus loves you.

    Have a blessed day,
    Kathy

  160. Traci, I am sorry that reader made that comment. Don’t take it to heart. Your are a wonderful woman and a wonderful blogger! I am sure that your faithful blog followers, like me, understand about sponsored posts, ads and why they are necessary. I actually like the sponsored posts you do because you give us your honest opinion about products and projects which is helpful when I am looking to buy! Don’t feel discouraged. Keep doing what you’re doing! Your precious personality and honesty comes through in every post which is why I continue to follow your blog, but have stopped regularly following others. Being genuine, in my opinion, is the most important part. You’re not afraid to “get real” sometimes, share the imperfections in your life, or just share your feelings like you did in this post. And, best of all, you’re not afraid to share your love for Jesus and I think that is beautiful. XOXO – Cindy

  161. I’m a few days behind – but I wanted to join the rest of your loyal readers that so appreciate your blog. I have pinned so MANY of your posts to inspire and encourage me to get to it and create for myself and my family. If there is a post subject that doesn’t apply to me, (I’m ‘older’ and have 2 ‘adult’ sons :) ) I just skip it – no biggie! I am glad you were able to overcome being hurt my a thoughtless former reader (so HER loss!)
Keep it up – it is truly a blessing that you are able to stay home with your sons and still provide for them. Being a Mom IS the BEST job in the world.
Thank you so much for your blog Traci,
    Best, Tracie

  162. I adore your heartfelt letters (and often need Kleenex when reading them!)
    I love your projects!
I love seeing pics of your sweet family!
You are an inspiration and a joy! Bring those ads; clicking for you! <3

  163. Hi Traci, it really makes me sad that a reader would take the time to be so hurtful. Unfortunately, there are always going to be people that are negative, but their darkness can never ever take away your light. You give us all so much, and bless us with your insights, amazing projects, sharing stories about your beautiful family…I could hardly imagine anyone being bothered by a sponsored post! Besides, no one can do anything totally alone, we all need support in many ways, and I am sure 99.9% of your readers understand that the time, effort and cost to pass on so many wonderful posts to all of us costs money, and if sponsored posts help you, then more power to you! You have been an amazing blessing in my life, and I know so so so many others. If someone isn’t interested in a particular post, it’s as easy as a click to not read it, period. I hope you can somehow let that negative comment roll into your delete file in your mind, then click on empty trash bin, lol! Please remember all of us who adore what you do and how much you add to all of our lives. xoxo

  164. I’m a bit late with my comment, but I felt I needed to say that your blog has been an inspiration to me in many ways! Dealing with many health issues the past couple of years, YOUR BLOG gave me courage and the desire to keep going with my head held high and faith that I would be taken care of. You would never know the blessing it has been in my life, had I not said anything. It’s sad hat these days people speak before they realize the damage they are causing… But for me, I have truly felt I have found a “friend” in our thoughts and desires for our families. Your blog inspires and lifts me up! As you do! Sending hugs your way, Traci!

  165. Traci-I just have to comment. I love this blog! I cannot tell you how many times I have watched your sweet son Jonathon sing and have had tears rolling down my face. You are such an amazing person! Don’t let these people upset you. You are doing what any momma would do and providing for your family. I often times think to myself when reading your posts how much I would love to just meet you, pray with you and give you a big hug (Is that weird?). Keep doing what you’re doing sweet sister!

  166. After 184 comments, I wasn’t going to leave one too but thot there can never be too many kind words Traci! I just want to tell you that I love, love reading blogs and yours was the very first one I ever read! I still live it to this day…I realize you have made progress and thx for explaining how it works to your readers! I understand! Here’s a hug… Keep doing what u r doing Traci! Lotsa love!!!

  167. Traci,

You have such a talent and a beautiful blog. I look forward to your blog every day. You are an inspiration to me and to so many others. I am very happy for you and your opportunity to be at home with your kids and still make a living. Thank you for sharing your time and talent.

  168. Seriously? I would understand if you had many more sponsered blogs. I’d consider it a gain to lose such an unrealistic reader? How do folks figure you can do this forever for free?!?!?! Keep on!!

  169. You will always have good and bad…it exists everywhere…if you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all. I enjoy your blog enough to read sponsored or not sponsored posts. Chin up you are doing a wonderful job for your family and your readers! BTW I’m going to attempt the industrial pipe shelves in my son’s room. I had him looking at the blog too just to make sure he liked it and he did! Thank you!

  170. Such a shame people can’t follow my brother in law’s advice: less said better said. Keep up the GREAT work!! :)

  171. Tracy keep doing what you are doing girl! I am so impressed that you can do what you love and get paid. You have A LOT of faithful readers and we will stick with you forever!!

  172. Hello Tracie,
I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of years now. It is a real blessing for a young Mother to stay home and watch her children grow. If you need to use a sponsor then so be it…I follow you no matter what your post. Shallow folks out there girlfriend. Just keep on keeping on!

  173. I love your Blog! Don’t change a thing!! I guess her momma never taught that if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all. She has the right to not read that particular if she is so bothered by it. You work hard at this Blog and you have every right to take the necessary steps to make money off of it. Sometimes those sponsored posts are great and quite helpful… Seriously, do not change one single thing that you do!!

  174. There will always be a few negative comments when writing in a public format. I guess all you can do is try not to take it personally. I get annoyed with all the ads and pop-ups sometimes but that is the nature of the blogging world now. It takes lots of hard word and is a full-time profession so you need to be compensated especially if you’re putting 40 hours a week or more into it. I appreciate all the wonderful ideas, and the inspirational stories and projects so keep doing what you’re doing especially if it still makes your heart sing. I blogged as a hobby for a couple of years so I really appreciate all you do! You have a beautiful heart and it’s obvious that you touch a lot of people and you’re super talented so no explanation needed.

  175. Last week I had to get all ranty on FB because I had two things happen back to back- a reader emailed me to tell me that she thought I was another blogger with a “perfect life” and then I got some FB comments that weren’t nice. So I posted this—> https://www.facebook.com/30daysblog/posts/10152322489327033?stream_ref=10
And I felt better. This blogging thing is so dang tricky isn’t it? It’s fantastic to be able to do what we love doing, stay at home and earn an income. But all the extras that come along with it can be no fun at all. Just wanted to let you know that I am in your corner and have wanted to post this exact post several times. You keep doing your thing and inspiring us- you’re amazing at it. Love you friend! xoxo Mique

  176. I just saw this linked to again on g+ and I cannot remember if I posted the first time I read this. I read a lot of blogs, but I am quite ignorant about the business side. I dislike very much someone being mean, but I really appreciate you explaining how things work a bit. I think we (your readers) get a real benefit from sponsored posts because we learn about great(possibly new) products and hear true oppinions. People are going to be who they are, unfortunately. You are great at what you do and have many who love your blog. Don’t let some negativity discourage you. You are blessing many….even some who will never tell you so.
