Sunday Encouragement

Want to change the direction of your day with one word?

It’s possible.

One word can change your whole attitude.

What is this magic word?

Drumroll please…..

“GET”

Huh?  You are disappointed with “get.”

Where you expecting a more spectacular word?

Well, watch “get” work it’s magic and maybe you will change your mind…

dd a little bit of body text

When you wake up tomorrow morning, instead of saying “I have to go to work today.”

Try saying, “I GET to go to work today.”

Instead of saying “I have to take my son to baseball practice tonight.”

Say, I GET to take my son to baseball practice tonight.”

Here’s one for me…

“I have to make dinner tonight.”

Nope.

“ I GET to make dinner tonight.”

See what I mean?

One word can change your whole attitude.

Because our attitude should be one in which we realize the joy and privilege it is to live each day.

And what an honor it is to be able to do even the most mundane things of life.

The tasks that seem like a burden to us should really be seen as a blessing.

I know it is not always easy, but it is a CHOICE we are given each day.

Do we see our responsibilities as “have to’s”  or “GET to’s?”

I’ve been thinking about that a lot this week.  And when I start to get frustrated or worn out with all that is going on in my life, I start changing my “have’s” to “get’s,” and I am amazed at how it changes my attitude.

So, what do you GET to do today? Winking smile

  1. I get to sit on the screened in porch and peel a bowl of apples for an apple crisp dessert.
I’m very blessed to have fresh food and a body willing and able to cook it.
Happy Sunday to You and Yours

  2. This is an interesting way look at your life. When I found things less to my liking “I have to’s” I would change it to I want to. Now I get a choice. Thank you

  3. I get to go to worship, make lunch for my son, switch out my winter clothes for spring/summer clothes, cook dinner for a friend and my family, and get my son back to college. This all is truly a blessing because I’m alive, healthy, able, and redeemed!

  4. I get to give my baby girl a bubble bath right now. Then I get to cuddle and snuggle with her until she falls asleep. What a chore. Hee hee.

  5. I remember MANY years ago when it was time for church, I would say “Do we have to go?” My sweet dad would say “We don’t have to go, we GET to go”. Years later I found myself telling my daughter the same thing . . .and now my granddaughter. Thank you for this reminder!

  6. This morning as I was reading your post on Sunday Encouragement “I Get to” it spoke very deeply to my heart. I was also on the Living Proof Ministries Blog, listening to Beth Moore and low and behold part of her devotion was “WE GET TO”. Isn’t God just amazing. It reminds me of the scripture that man plans his way but God directs his foot steps. Thank you Tracy for not only sharing your home & family, but also your heart. You bless lives through God’s word and listening to His direction!

  7. Traci,
This couldn’t have been more perfect for me. I’m teaching a young moms Bible study on Tuesday and the topic is having an attitude of gratitude. With your permission, I’d like to share this with them. God’s timing is perfect!!

  8. Thank you. This seemed to confirm what has been on my heart for the last few days.

I hope you don’t mind that I shared it with my Overcoming Women group on FB. I gave you the credit you deserve.

  9. So true and happy to read your blog post on the same day this very topic was on my heart! Our washing machine has been broken for the last week. Since the laundry basket was busting at it’s seams, I decided to wash a giant load by hand (the very old fashioned way). Even though my back started to hurt, and it was a LOT of hard labor…I was surprisingly elated afterwards, as I smoothed out my husband’s slacks and dress shirts, I was reminded how very lucky I am to GET to do it, use my hands, how grateful I am to have the strength to carry the heavy load, and in awe of how hard our great grandmoms, grandmas, and mothers still have it today. How blessed we are! Thank you so much for reinforcing this :)!
