Front Porch Makeover Progress
Hey there!
I wanted to give you a quick update about the progress we are making on our front porch. We had to slow down a little on the front porch over the summer because we were so busy, but now we are hitting it hard. It will be “mostly” finished by this weekend! Yay!
I had to search through my old posts to look at the last update I gave you. You can find it HERE. I couldn’t remember the last pictures I showed you, but I found them! Here is where we left off…
In THIS POST, I shared with you how we created a mudroom in our new front porch addition. Well, we still haven’t completed the inside of our front porch addition, but here is what the front porch looks like as of today!
I was going to get a picture of the whole house, but the sun was rising right behind the roof, and I couldn’t get a good picture. :( But you can see how far we’ve come! We got the siding painted the same color as the rest of the house, the columns wrapped and painted, and the lights (from Lowe’s) installed.
This week, Cy will be finishing all the detail stuff. After we add insulation to the top of the new addition, we will be able to build our front porch ceiling. We also need to put some more paint on the columns and finish the molding on the top.
I love our wood floor on the porch! It has to dry out for about another month before we paint or stain it. Right now, I am leaning on painting it a gray color. What would you paint it? Or would you leave it natural? Stain it? I would love to hear your thoughts. :)
I have always wanted double doors on our home, and we were thrilled to get a STEAL on these doors. A friend of ours has a door and window company, and a client of his ordered these doors but didn’t like the way the glass looked. So he let us have these doors at cost! We saved a TON of money, and I love the way the glass looks. It will give us privacy, but still lets the light shine through! ( The door handle is from Lowe’s.)
Our “plan” is to have 95% of the porch finished by this weekend, so we can start working on my office space next week. #fingerscrossed
I cannot WAIT to put some pumpkins and mums on my front porch! ACK! I have always, ALWAYS wanted a front porch that I could decorate all pretty for fall. It’s going to be super fun!
Are you ready for fall, or are you still hanging on to summer?
Your porch is going to be amazing. We stained ours, but I don’t care for it. I saw someone in our neighborhood has a blue/gray stain/paint andit is gorgeous!
Trace, I love it! It is going to finish off your home beautifully. Cy does such an amazing job! I think ya’ll should get your own “fixer upper show” like Chip and Joanna Gaines! I love all that you do anyway but that porch is fabulous and I can just picture the crate you did last year with the message on it, and pumpkins galore!
Dude! Call HGTV and tell them! We would love our own show!! :) Thanks for your encouragement! Ack! The crate! You’ve got me so excited!!!!
I vote for stain. You can always stain it a gray color and have the best of both worlds.
Thanks, Lisa! A gray stain is tempting… :)
I LOVE your new doors!!!! I would love those exact ones for my house.
Thanks so much, Ruth! We were super excited to get such a deal on them!! xoxo
I think the doors are beautiful as they are. I wouldn’t change a thing!
Thank you, Lori!
Your new front porch is going to be beautiful! I suggest you leave the floor natural, so it won’t need as much upkeep, nor show wear and tear. The natural color will not take away from your beautiful doors and lights. I think it will help the doors stand out more.
Great advice, Ginger! Thanks for commenting. :)
I love the doors. I would leave the porch floor natural and stained, not painted
Thank you, Dorothy!
Just put a natural sealer on porch floor. You will love it.
If you dont like then you can stain it a color. Once you
have stained it you cant go back to natural. Been there
done that! Natural will not show dirt like a stained color will.
With children and pets you want the least amount of upkeep and not to show dirt.
Thanks for your advice, Donna! :) Upkeep is definitely something to consider.
P.S. I have the same Light fixtures! Ive had them about 5 years.
They faded over the years….so this spring I took them apart and spray painted them. They look like brand new again.
Awesome! Yes, spray paint does the trick. :)
It looks awesome girl!! I think whatever you choose to do, it will look fantastic!! ( I know, I’m not helping..;-)
Great job Cy!!
Everything you do looks amazing. My thought was to stain it the same color as your doors. I think it would be so pretty against the white.
Thank you for your input, Diane! xoxo
Thanks, Lisa! xoxo
It’s beautiful -I would stain the floor the same color as the doors. I love to decorate my porch, too!
Thanks, Debbi! I am so excited about decorating!!! :)
I Love the Porch Traci; it’s gonna be a Beauty! If it were mine, I’d stain the porch floor the same as the front doors for a bit of classic symmetry!
Thanks for your input, Cat! :) I’m super excited about our porch!
I love the way it changes the whole look of the house! It looks fantastic! I vote dark grey stain on the floor, but I’m sure it will look great no matter what you choose.
Thank you, Joanna! I am so excited about how the front of our house looks now. :)
I say stain…. Thinking it would kind of blend in with those amazing front doors!!!! So excited for you!! Can’t wait to see your “Fall” front porch!!!!!
Thank you, Terri! I bought some fall wreaths for the doors today. Can’t wait!!!! xoxo
Just gorgeous! I vote for stain. You can always paint over it if you change your mind.
Good point! Thanks, Lorie!
Stain is the best for your first round in my opinion. Paint or solid stains show the dirt more and unavoidable with pets and kids. The freshness then goes away quickly.
I know! I wish painting it wouldn’t mean more maintenance. :(
LOVE!!! Paint it gray!, it will look amazing! Miss you guys!!!
Great minds think alike! Is this really Grant, or his gorgeous wife?!!! Miss y’all too! Hope to see you soon!
It’s actually me, although my GORGEOUS wife will usually be the one replying! We did a painted porch floor on our last home and we absolutely loved it! By the way!, we finally got the rest of the shutters built and installed! INCREDIBLE!
I love the porch! I’m sure I’ll love whatever you decide to do to the porch floor. If I had to choose, I think I would stain it. I had a painted porch floor once (and loved it) however, you will find yourself mopping it to keep it bright, and repainting often. The doors are outstanding. You and your husband do really nice work!
Thank you, Susan! :) I know the paint would be more work, but I think I like it best. #cantdecide
I think I would stain the porch floor. Maybe the same color as the door or a tad lighter or darker but at least the same tone? It’s looking great so far!
Traci,
Can you give a link to your friends door store? Love them! Thanks!
They do not have a link, but it is Elite Building Supplies in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Ask for Rob. :)
