Home Phase 4: We’re Building a Garage!
When we moved into our little brick ranch 5 years ago, we knew that we had several phases we would have to go through before we could get our home looking and feeling the way we wanted it to.
Phase One: Renovate the Interior of our Home
Phase Two: Build a Two Story Addition
Phase Three: Add a Front Porch
Phase Four: Build a Two Car Garage
Phase Five: Renovate the Guest House
So now it is time to begin Phase Four, and then we only have Phase Five left, the guest house.
This past couple of weeks, we have begun planning out and marking where we want to build our two car garage..
When you are facing our house, the garage will be on the left. We will have to move my white shed out of the way eventually.
The car will be attached to the house with a covered walkway something like this…
The walkway probably won’t have railing, but it will have a tin roof.
And then the garage will look similar to this…
It will have a gabled roof to match the roofline on the addition on the other side of the house. And it will be rapped in the same white siding as the addition. It will also have a bonus room on top of the garage, but we are going to leave it unfinished for now. We will have to wait until we have a little more money before we can finish that space. :)
The walkway will lead into a new laundry room that I am sooooo excited about! My current laundry room is super small and is the room where you see the small window in the picture below. We will be turning that small area into a butler’s pantry, creating an opening where the window is now, and the new laundry room will be located where you see the gravel below.
It doesn’t look like a very large space, but it will feel super roomy compared to the small laundry room I have now. :)
I will be sharing all of the progress on this project throughout the coming weeks. We are hoping to have this completed by the end of October. We are having help with the foundation, but Cy will be doing most of the building by himself. It’s going to be fun watching it all come together. YAY!
Have a blessed day, friends!!
xoxo

So excited for you! I can’t wait to follow your progress. Laundry rooms and mud rooms are right behind kitchens in importance to many of us girls.
I’m so excited to see how this turns out! I’ve loved seeing your adorable farmhouse evolve! It seems like just yesterday when y’all were moving into it! Looks wonderful!!!
So exciting Traci!! I’ll love seeing the progress !! Thx for sharing ;-)
That is so awesome. You have come a long way already. Can’t wait to follow along with this next project.
How exciting!
And how sweet of you to renovate th e guest house for me. 😉
New construction is so exciting! My husband is building me a screened in porch off my back door on our driveway side. We don’t have a garage either. I noticed your central heat and air unit is where your laundry room is going. Are you relocating that?
How EXCITING!! You, Cy & your precious family are a Great team & so deserving with each wonderful “Addition & Phase”.. Blessings abound!
So excited for you. Cy is amazing !!
How exciting! Looking forward to following along. I can’t wait to see how you design and style your new laundry!
Oh!!!!! I’m loving this addition – what a great plan you have! Excited to see all the “progressw pics”! I want to cover our patio with a tin roof but unfortunatley my husband isn’t a CY and handy with the tools :).
I was surprised when you said you have lived in your current house for 5 years because I started reading your blog well before you moved. I can’t believe it’s been that long. It’s been fun to see the progress over the years. You and your husband have done an amazing job. Can’t wait to see how the garage turns out. Looking forward to more posts.
So excited for you! I love how yours will look! My dream garage (emphasis on dream) is 2.5 bays wide and 2.5 bays deep. My dream garage (emphasis on dream) is 2.5 bays wide and 2.5 bays deep.
You guys are some industrious folks. Hats off to you! You all have created a lovely home for sure!
It’s going to be absolutely stunning…you have such and eye for this and classy taste.
Oooohhh it’ll look great I’m sure! Can’t wait to see it finished!
How exciting! I grew up with a garage like that—we called the covered walkway a “breezeway.” It worked very well.
Is there an update of the finished garage next to the ranch?
We have the same small red brick ranch and are struggling with how to do the addition! Can you send me a picture of the outside of your house now? I am just finding one that is far away from the camera.
