Laundry Room Update!

So I finally have a laundry room update for you, but unfortunately, I do not have a bunch of pretty pictures for you.

Right now, our laundry room looks a little raw, but it’s getting there.

I’ve never shown my laundry room in this house on my blog because, well….it’s ugly.  Aren’t most laundry rooms?  ha!

But I am grateful  for my laundry room and I don’t like to complain. :)

The current laundry room is right off of our kitchen, and looks like this:  (unfiltered and unstaged)

To the left of those cabinets are my washer and dryer and some shelving with clothes  baskets and what nots.  The window above the washer has always looked into our backyard, but now it leads into our NEW laundry room!

So this past weekend, Cy took the window out and created a doorway to our new laundry room.  You can see that we moved the old washer and dryer for the time being and put it in the new laundry room.

On the other side of the opening is our new laundry room.  We are leaving the exterior brick exposed and we have planked all of the other walls.

This weekend, we will be painting all of the wood and brick Dove White by Benjamin Moore, just like the rest of our house.

Right now, we have our old washer and dryer in this space.  Once we paint the walls and tile the floor, we will put the new washer and dryer in.  (I can’t wait!!!)  Right now, they are being stored in our garage.

You can see the green “graffiti” board on the left (thank you sons,) that is where our new windows will go.  I wanted to have LOTS of sunlight in my laundry room!

And this is the doorway from outside going into our new laundry room….

I told you the pictures weren’t pretty, but I wanted to share with you “real life.”   I am super excited about how it will look when we are finished.  I’ll be sharing some of my design ideas with you soon!

  1. Thank you for keeping it real Traci! I’m so excited to see your finished laundry room, and I can see that it is going to be a great space for your family. I would LOVE to have a laundry room that large.
I’m registered for tomorrow night and looking forward to hearing about the “oily life” :). Thank you and Cyndi for doing this for us who may be oily challenged.

  2. Love progress pictures….remind me (us) what your “current” laundry room will be turned into once your “new” laundry room is finished…..I’m sure you told us but “I” forgot :) – – – – love seeing renovation pictures

  3. Cory at Ace Hardware in Danville is an expert on washer and dryers. I think that is his name. Many people seem unhappy with the super fancy front loaders. Be careful what you buy!!

We had a lot of work done at our home last year due to foundation problems. It is all fixed now. My favorite improvement is the styrofoam insulation that has made our home so comfortable now. This was put in our basement. Don’t forget insulation.

  4. Yay! I love real life. It’s hard to get real life now a days with all the pretty pictures on blogs and Instagram. Don’t get me wrong, I love the pretty pictures and dreaming but some days it is just overwhelming and I feel my life doesn’t even hit the mark to everyone else. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for keeping it real. Thank you for opening your life up. I know that it may be hard sometimes but it is a joy to see. Blessing to you and your family!

  5. I am soooo jealous of your new laundry room! Mine is 6 feet wide by 8 feet long, with 2 (yes, 2!) doors opening in to it. So poorly configured that I can’t fold laundry in there. Ugh!
I’ve sketched out a new layout that includes a drop down table, added storage, & a hanging rod. Will be so happy once that’s finished AND painted a happy color (no more builder’s white)!

  6. I can’t wait to see the finished product, know you are going to enjoy it so much.

I had no idea you and Cindy were sisters. I read her blog at times too. How cool!

  7. So glad to see “real life” pictures !!! Yah! Makes me not feel like such a “loser”, because my home is not “picture ready” at all times! lol Keep on “keepin’ it real”!!! I bet it will be very “picture ready” for the final reveal, and look forward to seeing it then as well!

  8. Traci, I love what you have done so far to your laundry room! Looking great! What a fun project. I hope that you will continue to post your progress. I am like you, I love my laundry room. I have a little rustic sign from Magnolia Farms over my washer and dryer that says…Crazy Thankful. It reminds me to be thankful for this special place to do laundry……instead of a stream of cold water with some big rocks to slap the clothes against! So thankful I don’t have to do that!

  9. I am still so upset that I forgot the seminar. You and your sister should come to North Alabama and do a Women’s Conference. Love both of you.
