I finally found our vintage concrete sink!

Happy Monday, friends!!

This week is Spring Break for us, but we are staying home.  Cy’s taking a few days off to complete some projects around the house.

We will definitely be finishing our laundry room this week, and I am working on sharing the progress through a video series.   YAY!

Do you remember the post where I told you I was looking for a concrete sink for our laundry room?  I shared inspiration photos like the one below…

I wrote that post in October, but I had been looking for months before that to find a concrete sink that we could use.  I did most of my searching on Craigslist, but I couldn’t find a sink that was in good shape.  Most were cracked or covered in paint.

We were about to give up when I found the perfect sink last Sunday.  It had been listed only 7 hours earlier, and I knew that it wouldn’t last long, so I was salivating to purchase it asap.  Only problem was that it was in Asheville, North Carolina!  :(

I looked up the location on google maps, and realized that it was 4 1/2 hours away, so I asked Cy if I could drive there and back in one day to get it?  At first, he thought I was crazy, but then when he looked at the sink, he knew it was a great buy.  Plus, now that Jonathan is homeschooled, it made Cy feel better to know that Jonathan would be going with me.

We contacted the seller, sealed the deal, and decided to get the sink the next day.

So last Monday,  I picked up Sania from school at noon, and the three of us drove down to North Carolina to get our concrete sink!  After we got our sink, we at dinner in Asheville and then drove back home.  We got home at about 12:30 am.

I shared the adventure on my insta-stories, and thought I saved the videos to my phone, but I didn’t. :(

But here is a shot of the sink in our garage.

This thing is a BEAST!  It is around 300 pounds, and very difficult to move around, but I LOVE it!

Yesterday, we painted the base and sanded down some of the galvanized trim, and here is a sneak peek of it in our laundry room….

We still have to install the window trim, paint the baseboard, and of course, add the plumbing and faucet, but we are getting soooooo close!

It is exactly what I was envisioning for this space, and I am thrilled we got it!  It was definitely worth the done day trip to North Carolina.

I’m having a lot of fun putting our laundry room together, and I look forward to sharing it all with you soon.

Until then, have a blessed day, friends!!

xoxo

  1. Love this entire look/project. With a large family a large laundry is a must IMO. Loved seeing the Instagram videos of y’all working on all of it.

  2. Ooooooh can’t wait to see it all together, gonna be beautiful. Never realized they had concrete sinks, but makes sense for the old days what else coukd they have used I guess ? At any rate luv it :-)

  3. Awesome find! My husband and I go to Asheville once a month since it’s 45 minutes away. We got married there too. Your laundry room is going to be to die for with that concrete sink, shiplap and black windows!

  4. Oh my goodness, we had a sink EXACTLY like this in our house in the 1950’s and 60’s. Somewhere I have a picture of me and my sister having a bath in it! Thanks for bringing back some great memories. Have a blessed week!

  5. I hope you’ll share in a written post with lots of pics, also. I can’t watch videos, but would love to read & see.

  6. Looks amazing! If anyone is looking for a similar sink i have one but no base. It is actually outside in a raised flower bed. (previous owner put it there) I will confirm it is a beast and tough for even two people to move! It is free for the taking if anyone wants it. No paint on it, just some mud :) We are located in the DC area. I wish we had a place for it because there are a great workhorse of a sink for the laundry and workshop!

  7. It looks awesome, but a word of caution. We had one in our previous home and my husband was very concerned that it was too tippy. He securely fastened it with steel pipe, etc. So no one would get hurt.

  8. Oh my, that sink is to die for! Worth the trip and whatever it cost (what DID it cost?). I grew up in Ohio and the basement had that sink (without the metal edging) and my mom used them whenever she did laundry…she had a wringer washer. She always called them ‘stationary tubs’. She ran each piece of laundry through the wringer into the first tub, which was filled with rinse water. She had a wooden stick, worn smooth over the years, and used this to move the laundry around. The she swung the wringer to the second tub, for the final rinse. Through the wringer again and dropped into her laundry basket, which then had to be carried up the stairs and out to the clotheslines in the yard. Laundry was an all-day project in the 40’s!

  9. Although you’re not completely finished with the laundry room your sneek peek looks gorgeous!!
And it’s such a coincidence that your concrete sink looks excatly like the one from your photo source.

  10. Man, Traci, what a great find! I’m so glad for you. That was a whirlwind trip to North Carolina, but so worth it!

The laundry room y’all built in your last house was one of my favorite spaces. Now this laundry room is going to be even better. How much of our lives could be summed up with #worththewait?!

  11. Looks great! Can’t wait to see the finished room! Of course it will be gorgeous just like all your projects but still I cannot wait!
