Haven Mentor Blog Hop 2017

Hello, friends!  Thanks for stopping by!

I am thrilled to be participating in the 2017 Haven Mentor Blog Hop!  If you are joining me from The Handmade Home, WELCOME!  Aren’t Jamin and Ashley the cutest?  I love to read their blog.  Their posts always make me laugh, and I LOVE their style!

As many of you know, I am on the Haven Conference planning team.  We are in the sixth year of planning Haven, and I have loved every second of it.  Little did we know when we created Haven six years ago that it would still be going strong, but we are certainly glad it is!

One new feature that we added to Haven last year was “Haven Mentors.”  This is a group of seasoned bloggers that meet with small groups of attendees at different times throughout the conference just to talk about all things blogging and develop community.

This year, we have another amazing line up of some of my favorite bloggers!

Do you know how much I love these peeps?  Some of them I’ve know for all nine years of blogging, and some I am just getting to know, but man, it has been such an honor to call all of them my friends.  :)

Here are a few questions that each mentor is answering so that our readers and attendees can get to know us better!

1. How many years have you been blogging?

I am in my ninth year of blogging!  It’s crazy to think that I have almost been blogging a decade, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  God has used this blog to give me some of my greatest friendships and has blessed our family in so many ways.  Blogging is way more than a “job” to me.  It’s my passion.

2. What is your favorite DIY project that you have completed?

After nine years of blogging, it is hard to pick just one DIY project that we have completed as my favorite.   We moved to our current home almost six years ago, and it has been one big DIY project, so can I pick it?

If you click HERE, you can read posts about how we have renovated each and every room of our home.  I still have a few projects to add to our home tour, like our front porch, our daughter’s room, and our new garage and laundry room addition.

3. What is something useful you have learned from a blog conference?

I’ll be honest, it is not what I have learned, but WHO I HAVE MET at blog conference that has changed my life, starting with this sweetie in 2010…

My mom first introduced me to Rhoda’s blog before I even knew what a blog was.   She loved Rhoda’s blog and encouraged me to check it out.  After reading Rhoda’s and several other blogs, I decided to start my own.  When I met her in person at Blissdom (a former blog conference,) I was completely star struck.  As I was when I met Layla from The Lettered Cottage and Sarah from Thrifty Decor Chick.  Little did I know that these ladies would become some of my closest friends.

I look back at these pictures above from about 8 years ago, and it cracks me up!  I’ve been through so much with these ladies!  And these are just a few of the special people that have touched my life.  I could write a month worth of posts just talking about the special ladies I have met through blogging.

4. What is something you love about blogging and what is something you wish you could change?

My favorite thing about blogging is the opportunities it has given me to travel, meet amazing people, and complete projects on my home.  Blogging has opened up so many doors for me and provided for my family in ways I could never have imagined.  I love having a place online where I can connect with people all over the world!

The thing I wish I could change about blogging is the time it takes to write a blog post.  ugh.   I love doing DIY projects, but I do not like sitting at the computer editing photos and writing a post.  I’d rather be up doing something else.  ha!   :)

5. What is one piece of advice you would offer a blogger–new or otherwise–who is going to Haven?

My best advice for a blogger who is going to Haven….come find me!  Like, fo realz!  I would love to meet you, talk to you, sit with you, hang out with you…you get the picture!  I’m a people person, so if you don’t know anyone at Haven, just come find me, introduce yourself, and I promise, we will become fast friends.  After we take a selfie, of course!

Haven is the coolest conference on the planet!  (okay, I know I am a little biased.). But seriously, if you have ever wanted to attend a conference, this is the one to go to.  It’s not too big, and it’s not too small!  We’ve got an amazing line up of great classes, and you are sure to enjoy yourself.

You can register for Haven HERE.

I hope to see you there!

Now it is time to meet the next Haven Mentor, Jaime, from That’s My Letter!  She’s the amazing blogger that made our wooden Haven map last year!!

  1. I love your blog and I’m sure it’s WAY more work than it appears. If I had a subject I would love to blog :)…if I could find the time – hahahaha!

  2. love reading your blog and was looking forward to seeing faces to go with names. The ad(s) for Ballard Designs obscure my seeing all of the post. Sadly clicking the “x” would not close it so I could see the rest. :(

  3. love checking out new blogs but for the second time in a week I clicked on a link in a blog (today it was the link for Finding Silver Pennies) and it threw me into a “fake” Microsoft Trojan alert scam. It is NOT a virus but makes you THINK it is….really hard to get it all to close out but I do a virus scan after both times and nothing shows up….the last time the blogger acknowledge she originally had issues, had a computer expert fix it but doesn’t know why it keeps happening. Just throwing this out there in case others experience this (I will say I have NEVER EVER had issues with YOUR actual site).

  4. Oh my goodness! I LOVED seeing those photos from 8 years ago. What a fun journey. LOVED reading about the blog camaraderie. It’s so true. Thank you for organizing such an amazing conference. Can’t wait to see you all xx

  5. Hi Traci
Tell Jamie she’s going to need a bigger map!! I’m Kylie and I’m so excited to be coming to Haven this year, all the way from Brisbane, Australia. Maybe she could add a little down under Australia to the map?

I’m not new to blogging, but very new to Haven and blog conferences. I’m taking Courtney’s Advice (French Country Cottage) and I’m going to learn to step ‘out of the forest’ and meet new blogging friends. I will definitely take you up on your offer to say hello. Looking forward to meeting you. Kylie x

    1. Wow, Kylie! We are so excited you are coming to Haven this year! I look forward to meeting you, and I know you will have a wonderful time meeting other bloggers and soaking up a lot of great information! See you soon! xoxo
