My Design Dash Living Room Reveal!

Guys!  I am so excited to show you the room that I designed at the La-Z-boy Design Dash!!

Can I just tell you that this is one of the most fun things I have ever done in my life?! :)  I was so excited when I was asked to participate, and the La-Z-boy peeps did not disappoint!  They hosted such a wonderful event!

And the fact that I was able to participate and hang out with some of my favorite bloggers in all of Bloggerville was the icing on the cake!

To me, the very best part of any of these events is getting spend time with my friends, old and new!

LaZboy treated us to these adorable personalized director’s chairs, and then mailed them to our homes after the event.  The picture above pretty much sums up my personality.  I know that y’all may think that I am quiet and soft spoken, but that is the farthest thing from what I am.  I am loud, talkative, and love to make people smile.  Even if it means I have to make a fool of myself.  ha!

The actual “dash” was the first afternoon we arrived.  We were given carts and 50 stickers with our blog name on them to tag items we wanted to use in our room.

Kelly Edwards from HGTV’s former show, Design on a Dime, was our host.  I got to sit by her at the dinner the last night and had a wonderful time talking to her.  She is a sweetheart (and funny!)

We had 45 minutes to find items for our room, and once Kelly gave us a countdown… we were off!  Of course, I tried to share the dash on my instastories.  :)

We each had helpers to help us tag items and then take them to our “holding” space.  They were a HUGE help to me, and helped me make some great last minute decisions on side chairs.

The next day, we were shown which “bay” our sofa was in, and I was super excited to see that mine included this white brick fireplace.  I chose Sherwin Williams “Alabaster” for my walls, and they painted my bay this color before I arrived.

Isn’t my sofa gorgeous?!  It’s called the Aberdeen, and I chose to cover it in a beautiful navy blue iClean fabric.

What’s iClean you ask?

High-performance iClean™ fabrics are perfect for homes with children, pets and everyday life. This innovative technology surrounds each fiber, creating a barrier of protection that repels spills before they turn into stains. iClean™ fabrics keep your furniture looking beautiful, while giving you peace of mind. Available on most La-Z-Boy styles so you can feel comfortable with your furniture… and even life’s little mishaps, when they happen.

Sounds like a winner, doesn’t it?  I will be getting an iClean fabric on my next La-Z-Boy sofa for our bonus room since it will be a place that my kiddos hang out a lot.

Check out the beautiful nailhead trim that I chose for my sofa.  That is an extra detail that was available if I wanted it, and I did!

So as you can see, I had a beautiful sofa to decorate with, and it really did steal the show.  :)

LaZboy also brought three of their top designers to work with us and help us if we needed anything at all!  They were all so wonderful, but I worked the most with Tessa.  She just got me.  We worked so well together, and she made the whole process a blast for me!

As you can tell, we laughed a lot!  This picture was probably taken when Tessa told me there is a $10,000 prize to the blogger who’s room wins.  Say wha?!!  Did y’all know that I am such a ditz that I didn’t even know that we could win a prize?!  Yep, I was almost finished designing my room when I found out.  (They sent us that information in an email, but let’s just say that I’m a “skimmer” when it comes to reading emails.  oops.)

Anyway, I’m kind of glad I didn’t know there was a prize involved because it was a whole lot less pressure.

We spent about three hours putting our rooms together with the items we chose the day before, and we also got 20 minutes to go into their “prop room” to find a few more items with which to style our rooms.

Y’all, whether I win this competition or not, I absolutely ADORE my room.  I went with a very comfortable, homey feeling in my space, and I it turned out better than I could have even expected.

I found some great old games in the prop room to use in my space like scrabble, tic-tac-toe, dice, jacks, bowling pins and more.  (See if you can find them in my room!)

I wanted my space to feel like a place where time spent with family was a priority, so I even spelled the word “family” out of scrabble letters and put it on one of the shelves.  (Unfortunately, there were no letter “m’s” in the box, so I had to use an upside down “w.”  :)

I don’t really consider myself a “designer” but more of a “DIYer,” so this event stretched me out of my comfort zone.  But my main goal was for my room to feel like ME, and I think I accomplished that.  I couldn’t ask for more.

Here is my final space!!

I seriously love my space, and it makes me want to re-do my whole living room at home! haha!

I particularly love the clock above the fireplace!  Isn’t it awesome?!  I couldn’t believe that was a La-Z-Boy product that they sell!  Everyone who walked passed my room would say something about that clock.

NOW IT IS TIME TO VOTE!!

You can vote every day  (you hear that Dad?!!) until June 15th to be entered to win $15,000 in La-Z-Boy furniture

(and help me win 10,000 buckaroos!)

Sound like a plan, Stan?

The last evening, LaZboy hosted a fabulous dinner with all the fixin’s in the hotel’s game room downstairs.  We had a blast relaxing, eating good food, and enjoying time together.

Not sure what Sarah and I were discussing, but by the look on her face, it must have been pretty amazing!

There was a huge slide that everyone was going down, but I had to take it up a notch and try to go down head-first.  (Remember what I said about making a fool of myself just to make people smile?)

Well, here I was bragging that I could go down head-first…

I also tried to take a selfie video of me doing it with a selfie light attached to my phone.  Everyone said they could see the light going all the way down the slide, except for the part where I got all tangled up half way down.  haha!  Then the light was flailing all around the place.

I ended up at the bottom of the slide with my camera videoing my neck.  Of course, we were all laughing our heads off!

And then like any good blogger, I ended with a perfect selfie moment.  :). There was one minor casualty in the process, and that was my sister’s bracelet that I had on.  You can see the pieces on the ground below.   Oh well, it was worth it! :)

Most people would probably have to be a little tipsy to do a stunt like this at my age, but my craziness is 100% fueled by large cups of  ice cold Coca-Cola!  I’m just high on life, y’all!

Anyway, my heart is truly grateful for this wonderful experience.  I had so much fun with all of the wonderful people from La-Z-Boy, I loved seeing my blogging buddies, and I even gained some confidence in myself as a designer.

Thank you for letting me share this experience with you!  Now go vote!

Disclaimer:  I was given a La-Z-Boy sofa for compensation to participate in this event.  I was not paid to post or share about this event.  All opinions and ideas are 100% mine.

  2. You look like you had so much fun! Everyone else looks so serious! I have no doubt in my mind that if we ever meet we would have a blast together. So if your ever in Delaware let me know

  3. Love your room. You did an amazing job. I wish I lived closer to you. I’d pay you to go to Lazy boy to help me. I need family room furniture sooo bad and have no idea what to get or how to decorate. :( I went to vote and where it comes up to put my name and address, I couldn’t type in because the area was laid out too far on the right of my computer and can’t get to it or move it over. Hard to explain. Anyone else have this? I’d vote daily if you look and let me know. Thanks.

  4. I voted for you and watched every single video. So much fun! My favorite thing was when Cassidy said that Traci let her use her rug. Was that you? Sounds just like something you would do! 😊

  5. I tried to vote but couldn’t. I’m assuming it’s the vote button is too far down on the computer and can’t raise it higher. :-(

  6. Oh Traci! You just warm my heart and make me smile!! Some of the crazy things you do are just like me and I love animal print and love to make people laugh. You’re amazing! I will vote for you every day! Happy Tuesday!

  7. Love your room, the sofa is beautiful and the nailhead trim adds a nice touch. I wonder if the iClean fabric makes cleaning pet hair easier? Anyway good job, it feels like your personality, warm and inviting and family cozy. Good luck!
