New Barn Lights in our Laundry Room

Hey friends!

I wanted to share with you the barn lights that we added in our laundry room.

When we built the space, we wired the wall above the washer and dryer for three lights.  I knew that I wanted to put some type of barn lights up there, but wasn’t sure exactly which kind.  I spent waaaaaay too long thinking about it, and I finally bit the bullet and purchased three galvanized barn lights from Lowe’s.

I loved the size and shape, but I wanted them to be black.  Now maybe you don’t think you should paint something you bought brand new, but for me, I don’t care one bit!  I will even do that with a brand new piece of furniture.  Worse case scenario, I would paint one light black, and if I just didn’t like it at all, I would return the other two and find somewhere else to use the black one.  Right?

So here is the light I chose:

The paint I used to spray paint them black is:

Rust-Oleum Universal Black Enamel Spray Paint

Here is what they looked like once we put them up on the wall!  I have some plans for what I will put in the space below the lights, but I will share that in a future post.  :)

In the picture above, you can see the light that we installed in the middle of the room MONTHS ago!  I love this light!!!  The antique gold inside the light makes me die every time I see it!  :)

Check out the short video I put together for the barn light installation.   (Be sure to subscribe to my youtube channel!). Thanks!!

  1. Love the new lights you chose and I really like the one with the antique gold. I see why you love it so much. Again…..I need you at my house. I have no talent for decorating. :( I know just want you mean about going away and then spending the whole time talking about your kids and missing them. We still do that and we’ve been empty nested for 4 years now. Ha Ha. I love my kids and will always miss them not with me. :) I’m fortunate they are close. One is 1 1/2 hrs. away, the other is 3 1/2 hrs. away and the other is 4 1/2 hrs. away. :)

  2. I love all of what you have in the laundry room. The space you have is so great! I can’t wait to see what’s next.

  3. Could you please share which washer and dryer you have? I will need to be purchasing a set soon and am trying to get as much info on what others have and if they like them!! Would love to know more about yours. The lights and space look wonderful!

  4. I enjoy following your blog and think that your designing talents are awesome. But, I must say you are extremely lucky to have a cooperative partner that knows how and WILL do the labor. It would be great if you could show us single girls how to get some of these DIY jobs done.

    1. You are right, I am. He is the Ying to my Yang. :) Building and doing DIY projects together is our love language. I have shared projects on my blog before, that I have done by myself, but my blog definitely focuses on projects that my husband and I do together. However, I have MANY wonderful blog friends that have blogs that focus specifically on helping ladies who want/need to do their projects solo. Check out Shanty2Chic, Pretty Hand Girl, House of Wood, Ana White, and Sawdust Girl. Hope that helps! :)

    1. Hi Judy! Shiplap is just a term for the way the wood planks butt up against each other, it’s not a type of wood. There is tongue and groove style, shiplap style, etc. We just used wood planks and left a small space between them as we nailed them on the wall to create the look we wanted. :). Hope that helps!
