KIDVENTURES for the summer!

May 8, 2013 AT 8:46 am 4 Comments

Hey guys!  Are you ready for summer?!!  In just a few weeks, my boys are gonna be out of school, and that means that I need to get to planning.  My boys get bored pretty easily, so I have to make an effort to keep them busy during the summer.

That is why I am so glad that I have this little book to help me out.  My friend, Jen, has written a wonderful little book with a ton of activities to do with your children this summer.

Jen and I met several years ago at a conference and became instant friends.  I love Jen because she is the mom of four boys like me.  Except her 4 boys are quadruplets!  Yep!  The cutest little boys you have ever seen.  Jen-MurrayJen is also know as “QuatroMama” in blogland and writes a blog called 4tunate.

You can connect with Jen here:

Blog: 4tunate.net

Jen has worked really hard at creating this book, and I am so excited for her!

It’s a practical step-by-step ebook guide for your outdoor summer adventures! It’s chock-full of  creative, active, and hands-on learning activities for you and your family this summer along with supply lists, detailed instructions, printables, diagrams, and resources to take each activity a step further!

Doesn’t this sound amazing?!  I have my own copy, and I cannot wait to try some of the activities in it.  My boys are excited too!

Jonathan moves on to the finals of the Ky Opry!

May 7, 2013 AT 8:32 am 29 Comments

Hey friends!

Well, Jonathan made it to the top four in the Junior Division this past weekend at the Ky Opry Talent Search!

kyopry

He will be competing against 9 other singers in the Beginners, Adult, and Sr. Adult Divisions.

This weekend, he will sing two songs, one fast, one slow.  He’s going to be playing the guitar on his fast song and is looking forward to it.

The competition is tougher this year than last, in my opinion.  There are some really talented singers, and I LOVE listening to them sing.

Here is Jonathan’s performance of Rascal Flatts’ “Wont Let Go” from this past Saturday.

Stay tuned for the results of the finals next week!

And if you live anywhere near Paducah, come on down to Draffenville for the Ky Opry Talent Search finals this Saturday night to cheer Jonathan on.  Just be sure to call head and get your tickets…it will be a packed house.

Have a blessed day!

How “easy” was it to install my EasyCloset?

May 6, 2013 AT 6:09 am 16 Comments

Well, you know that I am in the middle of installing my new master bedroom closet with EasyClosets.

I’ve had many of you ask me how “easy” it is.

Well, when these boxes arrived on our back porch a couple of weeks ago, my husband said jokingly, “I hope they stand up to their name!”

eli baseball 001

I have to be honest that the pile of boxes was quite intimidating.

eli baseball 007

Cy and I moved all of the boxes into our master bedroom.

Then we had to move the piano out of our closet.  You know, the one that was “stuck” in our closet?  Well, we didn’t have to bust it up to get it out.  Cy and I turned it on its side and slide it through the bathroom into our bedroom.

mailbox-henhouse 012

The piano slid right up against the wall near the boxes. Smile  {This is how the boys practiced their piano for a few days.}

chicks 032

When it was time to finally start putting the closet together, I made sure to open this box first…

chicks 016

Inside this box, I found all of my hardware for the closet, plus the directions on how to put my new closet together.

chicks 027

These directions were my best friends while installing my closets.  I read and re-read the directions throughout the whole installation.  They were so helpful!

chicks 028

After opening all the other boxes, I did what the directions told me to do, and I organized all my boards by size and laid out my hardware.

chicks 042

(The boys helped me out by carrying all of the empty cardboard boxes up to our burn pile in the backyard!)

Then I started on the first wall by installing the steel track.

chicks 044

Next, I hung the vertical panels, of course, following the diagram in my directions manual.

chicks 046

Lastly, for this wall unit, I installed the cam shelves and chrome rods.

chicks 047

My next wall had drawers and shoe shelves to install.  I read the directions thoroughly, and then started putting it together.  After I figured out how to put together the first drawer, the rest were a breeze.  Same thing for the shoe shelves.

chicks 048

I still had two more units to put together, and I will share that with you next week.

So are EasyClosets really “easy?”

I’m gonna have to say “yes!”

There is a learning curve, for sure.  The first unit is the hardest because you are getting familiar with the directions, diagrams, and hardware that you use.  It sometimes gets a little confusing as to what pieces you are supposed to be using, but you can always look back at the directions to help you figure it out.

After I got through the first wall unit and figured out how it all works, the rest of the closet was “easy.”

I was flying through it by the end.

And I did the whole closet by myself!

I’m quite proud of myself. Smile

So, do you think putting this closet together looks “easy,”

or like something you could do?

I hope you guys have had a FABULOUS week!

We are heading down to the Ky Opry this weekend to watch Jonathan perform in the semi-finals.  Can’t wait!!

Say a little prayer for him.  Smile

If anyone hasn’t told you this week….YOU ARE WONDERFUL!

Why?  Because God made you that way.  He loves you more than you will ever know, faults and all.  You are the apple of His eye.

Maybe you have had a not-so-good week.  Maybe, like me, you’ve made some mistakes.  Maybe you messed something up.  You feel overwhelmed.  You feel inadequate.  You’re tired.

My prayer for all of us is that we would take our burdens and cares to the Lord.  Lay them at His feet.  Sit in His presence and hear Him say…

I just love you guys!

Hey Guys!  Hope you have had a great first half of the week!

Today, I am so excited to share with you something I am so proud to be a part of…Haven 2013!

haven2

My fellow team members and I are getting SO excited for the upcoming Haven Conference this summer!

Last year was our first year and it was a huge success – we are pumped for another year! This year Haven will be held at the beautiful Buckhead Grand Hyatt in Atlanta, Georgia from Thursday, August 1 to Saturday, August 3.

Just in case you don’t know the Haven team, here we are:

haven planning team

It includes myself, Beth from Home Stories A to Z, Chris from Just a Girl, Rhoda from Southern Hospitality and Sarah from Thrifty Décor Chick. Oh, and we can’t forget our rock star event planner, Kristin, who is a BIG part of making the details of the location and logistics happen.

First and foremost, we need to give a BIG shout out to our awesome sponsors – The Home Depot, Frogtape, Rustoleum and GMC just to name a few:

haven sponsors

We’re busy finalizing the sessions for the conference and we have an incredible group of designers, bloggers, and business people who will be sharing their knowledge with attendees. Go here to see who will be joining us (we are still adding them so check back often!).

The conference is sold out but we will be offering five ticket giveaways on our blogs over the next few weeks:

May 13th:  Just a Girl
May 20th:  Home Stories A to Z
May 27th:  Beneath My Heart
June 3rd:  Southern Hospitality
June 10th:   Thrifty Decor Chick

If you’d like to join us and don’t have a ticket keep an eye out for each of those! And if you aren’t already following us on Facebook here than please do so – many have to sell their tickets as we get closer to the conference and will announce it there. (Just a reminder to ticket holders – there will be no transfers honored after July 1st!)

If you already have your ticket, you should have received an invite to the Haven Mavens (private) Facebook group.  If you didn’t get an invite, email me at beneathmyheart4(at)gmail(dot)com to let me know, so I can get you added on. It’s a great place to chat and “meet” each other before the conference!

We’ve also created a Haven Conference Instagram account – you can follow it at “havenconf”.

We’ve also started up a linky party over at the Haven Conference site (for attendees) – if you are joining us please link up your blog and visit those who will be attending as well!

Beautiful Bathroom Vanities

April 30, 2013 AT 6:15 am 7 Comments

Hey friends!

When decorating our homes, sometimes our bathrooms get the least amount of decorating love.  It’s a small space that we sometimes overlook.  But making a few small changes in your bathroom can make a HUGE difference.  One of those changes is to update or install a new bathroom vanity.

beneathmyheart2804

I was so happy to create a bathroom vanity ideas clipboard for Hometalk.  Have   you heard about Hometalk?  It is a great site where people talk about and share ideas for the home, on every subject you could ever think about…gardening, diy projects, decorating, and more!

Some of my favorite vanities from the bathroom vanity clipboard are this cottage bathroom….

And this beautiful buffet that was turned into a vanity…

Isn’t that a beautiful color?

And I super duper love this gorgeous vanity made from a piece of furniture as well!

Do you have a bathroom in your home

that is in need of a little TLC?

da COOP!

April 29, 2013 AT 3:47 pm 20 Comments

Hey sweet friends!

I hope you had a great weekend!

I wanted to share some good news with you…

Our chicks have a home…da COOP!

chicks 076

They actually have been living in the coop for over a week.

Remember how I told you we bought the little chicks without first making them a home?

And remember how I told you they grow BIG really quick?

Well, the day I wrote that post, Cy and I took the boys to Lowe’s to get some supplies for our coop.

We decided to build the coop off the back of our small red shed.

We measured it off, and began to dig the holes for the posts.

Cy showed them how to dig the holes 18 inches deep.

mailbox-henhouse 055

Jonathan got busy digging the next hole.

mailbox-henhouse 060

Eli got in the action too.

mailbox-henhouse 062

Once all the holes were dug, Cy set the posts in the holes and added some “quickcrete.”  He made sure all the posts were level.

mailbox-henhouse 097

The boys were beside themselves as the building began!  Luke said it was the best day of his life! Smile

I absolutely adore this picture of my four boys standing by the poles they helped to build.

mailbox-henhouse 104

The next day, once the poles had set, we began measuring the distance between the poles and building the sides of the coop.

mailbox 015

Here’s Luke and Jonathan carrying one of the long boards…

mailbox 017

They worked soooo hard!

mailbox 020

Yes, that is my sweet husband working in his “church clothes.”

mailbox 011

The picture above is what the coop looked like before I left for Utah for the SNAP conference.

This is what it looked like when I got home…

chicks 081

Cy said he and the boys worked together to finish the coop.  It was great father/son time.  Cy called me while I was in Utah and said that Luke told him, “Dad, I will never forget this.  When I get older, I will always look back at this time and remember how much fun we had.”

mailbox 022

So the chickens have been in their new home over a week, and we do not have chicken poop in our house anymore. SmileThere is still some more work to do on the coop, but for now, it works perfectly.

chicks 064

We let them out during the day to roam around a bit.  Eli usually climbs in the coop and “shoos” them out.

chicks 066

This is Eli’s chicken.  He loves it!

chicks 072

We won’t have any eggs for a few more weeks still, but when we do, I will be sure to share it with you. Smile

Have a blessed day!

Favorite “PINS” Friday!

Hey friends!

I hope you had a great week!

You are NOT gonna believe this, but I threw my back out while trying to lift something heavy yesterday!  I’ve always suffered with back pain because of my scoliosis, but I have NEVER thrown my back out.

OH MY GOODNESS!  It hurts like the dickens!

I mean the kind of pain that makes you completely immobile.  Cy had to come home early from work so that he could pick up the boys from school.

I have iced my back, used a heating pad, and taken lots of ibuprofen.  I’m hoping I feel better soon because I have a ton I need to do around here, ya know?

Man, I feel old! Winking smile

Well, I hope you are pain free today.  And I hope you enjoy these PINS I pinned from Pinterest this week.

My New Master Closet Design

April 23, 2013 AT 6:06 pm 12 Comments

Hey Friends!

I hope you are having a great week so far!

Last week, I shared with you how I am getting a new master closet makeover with EasyClosets.

Well, I wanted to show you what my new closet will look like.

I emailed the dimensions of my closet to the designer, Scott, at EasyClosets using some grid paper that I printed off my computer.

closet dimensions 001

Then he sent me a proposal for what my closet could look like.

image

On the left, you can see the overhead view, and on the right are the front views of the different pieces.

I had originally thought about doing window seats under the windows, but decided not to.  The corner between the two windows will have a dressing table there for me to use to fix my hair and makeup. I’m not sure if I am going to buy a dressing table or build one, so I’m going to leave that space empty for now.

The cool thing is that they have a tool that allows you to see your closet in 3D.

image

You can move your cursor around to view your design from all different angles!  It really helped me to visualize the whole space.

image

You can also view each wall unit individually, and modify the design with any changes you would like to make.

image

It was super easy for me to take out the window seats from my plan and update my design.

I also asked to have the slanted shoe racks instead of the straight ones.  I think it is easier to see your shoes with the slanted racks.  I am SUPER excited about my shoe racks.  I have never had them before. Smile

shoe rack

I contacted Scott to let him know that I loved my closet design, and he put the order in.  I received my boxes two days later!  Not kidding!

phone 001

Now it is time to unpack all of these boxes and get to building my new master closet!

Can’t wait!!
