Doing Good on a Grand Scale #HandsofHaven

July 17, 2014 AT 10:05 am Leave a Comment

Last year at Haven, we were given the charge to “Do good on a grand scale.”  Our Haven team took that to heart and began trying to figure out ways we could use our conference to do good on a grander scale.

We came up with Hands of Haven.

Hands-of-Haven-Logo-955x1024

We are so excited to harness the creativity and talent of bloggers all over the states while partnering with Habitat for Humanity to bless others in our communities.

Since the Haven Conference has been held in Atlanta the past 3 years, we are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to do a local build right there in Atlanta on July 26th.  Twenty area bloggers will be helping with the build on that day.

But since bloggers are not just located in Atlanta, we have asked them to join us all over the states in partnering with H4H in some way on July 26th.

They can contact their local H4H and see if there is a build on July 26th that they can volunteer for, and if there isn’t, we are asking them to buy from or donate to their local Habitat ReStore.

To get the word out on social media, we are asking the to take photos of themselves using the hashtag #handsofhaven.

We also have tshirts for sale to help raise money for the Atlanta Habitat build.

When:

Hands of Haven Day

Saturday, July 26

What:

On 7/26/14, volunteer with your local Habitat, or visit your local Restore, or just wear the t-shirt proudly!

How:

Purchase your Hands of Haven T-shirt by clicking this link. Share a picture in your tee on July 26th using #HandsofHaven.

Even if you are not able to volunteer on that day, purchasing a t-shirt helps our cause immensely! If you are simply interested in donating to the cause, please click the donate button below.

All proceeds go to H4H/Hands of Haven Day.  THANK YOU!!!

Also, we are not just doing good ONE DAY, but we are declaring September as our month of service to H4H. We would like to encourage everyone to serve their local Habitat for Humanity in some way during the month of September.  Be sure to use to take a picture and use the hashtag #handsofhaven.  And if you bought a tshirt, be sure to wear it in your photo.

Thanks to all of YOU for helping us “do good on a grand scale!”

Oh my goodness gracious, y’all!!

I cannot believe that I have not posted on my blog for 7 whole days!!

I don’t think I have gone that long without posting in the almost 6 years that I have been blogging.

Well, last week was our big Haven Conference event, and I got hit with the stomach bug to make things even crazier, so as you can imagine, getting on my computer was my last priority!

This was our third year planning the Haven Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, and it was A-MA-ZING (if I do say so myself.) Smile

It rocked my world!

I was able to spend time with some of my favorite blog friends, and met a ton of new amazing bloggers as well!

The picture below summarizes what we do for four straight days…LAUGH!

Here we are when we are not being silly…

I’m still trying to recover from the whole thing, but I will be sharing more with you soon about all of the fun!  I also made a new dance/rap this year that I cannot wait to share with you!  Smile

I also made this Haven Happy video for the Opening Ceremony.  It is a ton of fun to watch!

Check it out…

So I just wanted to check in and tell you I am still alive.  hee.hee.

Right now, I am just soaking up my boys and trying to get my house back in order!

I pray you have a blessed day!!!

Haven 2014!

February 25, 2014 AT 9:11 am 7 Comments

I cannot believe that we are announcing and preparing for Haven 2014!

What is Haven?

Well, it is the most amazing DIY blog conference IN THE WORLD!

It started in 2012, and was officially the VERY FIRST DIY Blog Conference ever held.  No one had ever done anything like it, and there will never be another one as fabulous as Haven.  {Can you tell I am a little bias?} Smile

Kate {Censational Girl}, Sarah {Thrifty Décor Chick}, Beth {Home Stories A to Z}, Rhoda {Southern Hospitality}, Me, Chris {Just a Girl}, and Marian {Miss Mustard Seed.}

In 2012, there were 7 of us bloggers trying to make a dream come true.  We had all been to a bunch of other conferences, but we always felt like something was missing.

We wanted a conference related to all things HOME and DIY, just for our niche.

After a lot of planning and working hard, Haven happened!

And it was amazing!

haven 165

There is nothing like hanging out with your online friends and making them your real life friends.  These women “get” me. Smile

Haven 2012 was such a HUGE success, that we immediately began planning Haven 2013.

Our planning team was a little smaller, but that didn’t stop us from putting together another amazing event.

This conference was even more special to me because I had my sister with me.

She makes everything better in my life. Smile She is a fashion blogger, but learned a TON from our blogging sessions, like advertising and SEO, etc.  Let’s just say that she didn’t go to the power tools class that I was helping with…no big surprise there.  hee.hee.  And I don’t think she went to any of the painting classes either….go figure.  But she enjoyed the sessions on decorating your home.

Another highlight for me was being able to teach everyone the DIY Shuffle that I created.  This little dance was TOO MUCH FUN!  If you missed it, you can see the video HERE.1098302_10151576782511134_2027206086_n

The Shanty Sisters were there, and we had a little scuffle at the opening party.  I weigh more than the two of them combined, so it was an easy win. Smile

We had fun rocking the power tools…

Our speaker list last year was PHENOMENAL!  If you want to take a look at last year’s line up, click HERE.

This year, we are super excited to have HGTV’s Chip Wade as our Key Note speaker!

How cool is that?!

So why should you come to Haven, besides to get a picture with Chip Wade?

If you want to learn to use power tools, try new painting techniques, learn to style your home décor, or find out how to take better pictures, then you will love Haven.

If you want to learn to grow your blog, how to make money blogging, why SEO is important, and how to work with brands, Haven has got your covered!

And that’s just the half of it!

The very BEST part of Haven is meeting and connecting with other bloggers…hands down!

So do you want to come to Haven 2014?  I sure hope you do!

Haven Rocked My World! {and the DIY SHUFFLE!}

Oh my, oh my, oh my!

I remember last year after Haven, the planning team and I were on a huge “high” over how successful our first conference was.

I didn’t think it was possible, but this year after Haven, I am even higher than high!

I know that I was on the planning team for Haven, and I am trying not to sound like I am tooting my own horn, but seriously y’all, Haven Rocked My World!!!

haven conference 2013

The venue, the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead, was absolutely amazing!

The Haven sponsors and vendors were incredible!

The food was out of this world delish!

The attendees were so stinkin’ adorable!!!

The time I got to spend with my “home girls” was too precious for words.

haven conference 2013

I still can’t get over it all.

I was so busy that I didn’t have time to take a bunch of pictures, but I did “borrow” some from other bloggers. Smile

Here is me and Rhoda at the Welcome reception!

And me with Sarah.

Of course, my sister and I met up with the Shanty Sisters.

We love these girls!  And we love goofing off with them.  Here we are in a little Sisters VS. Sisters brawl…

haven conference 2013

As you can tell, I could totally take those girls down by myself.  I think I could actually blow them over, they are so skinny! Smile

The next day, the conference started with the fabulous Ana White as our Keynote Speaker.  haven conference 2013She was adorable and wonderful!

After Ana spoke, we surprised everyone with the “DIY Shuffle!”

haven conference 2013

Since Haven last year, I have been wanting to make up a fun dance for the conference.  So this year, I created the “DIY Shuffle” and taught it to the attendees.  We had so much fun with this dance!!!

haven conference 2013

Many of you who read my blog probably have never seen this side of me.   Smile

I love to dance.  Ironically, I never do, except for at blog conferences.  hee.hee.

The night before the Opening Session, I taught this dance to some of my “home girls,” and they helped me teach it to the attendees the next day.

Then we were able to do the “DIY Shuffle” at the Ryobi dance and other times throughout the conference.

To learn what the moves of the “DIY Shuffle” mean, you can watch this video to find out.

But Haven wasn’t just about dancing!

It was about learning how to be a better blogger…

And how to use power tools…

Susan from Living Rich on Less {Love this girl!}

And how to paint…

And learning about decorating and design…

There was a whole lot of goofiness too!

It was an amazing event, y’all! And I SO wish you were all there with me! Haven 2014 is on the schedule for next summer, mid July, so mark your calendar!

Haven 2013

May 2, 2013 AT 12:57 am 9 Comments

Hey Guys!  Hope you have had a great first half of the week!

Today, I am so excited to share with you something I am so proud to be a part of…Haven 2013!

haven2

My fellow team members and I are getting SO excited for the upcoming Haven Conference this summer!

Last year was our first year and it was a huge success – we are pumped for another year! This year Haven will be held at the beautiful Buckhead Grand Hyatt in Atlanta, Georgia from Thursday, August 1 to Saturday, August 3.

Just in case you don’t know the Haven team, here we are:

haven planning team

It includes myself, Beth from Home Stories A to Z, Chris from Just a Girl, Rhoda from Southern Hospitality and Sarah from Thrifty Décor Chick. Oh, and we can’t forget our rock star event planner, Kristin, who is a BIG part of making the details of the location and logistics happen.

First and foremost, we need to give a BIG shout out to our awesome sponsors – The Home Depot, Frogtape, Rustoleum and GMC just to name a few:

haven sponsors

We’re busy finalizing the sessions for the conference and we have an incredible group of designers, bloggers, and business people who will be sharing their knowledge with attendees. Go here to see who will be joining us (we are still adding them so check back often!).

The conference is sold out but we will be offering five ticket giveaways on our blogs over the next few weeks:

May 13th:  Just a Girl
May 20th:  Home Stories A to Z
May 27th:  Beneath My Heart
June 3rd:  Southern Hospitality
June 10th:   Thrifty Decor Chick

If you’d like to join us and don’t have a ticket keep an eye out for each of those! And if you aren’t already following us on Facebook here than please do so – many have to sell their tickets as we get closer to the conference and will announce it there. (Just a reminder to ticket holders – there will be no transfers honored after July 1st!)

If you already have your ticket, you should have received an invite to the Haven Mavens (private) Facebook group.  If you didn’t get an invite, email me at beneathmyheart4(at)gmail(dot)com to let me know, so I can get you added on. It’s a great place to chat and “meet” each other before the conference!

We’ve also created a Haven Conference Instagram account – you can follow it at “havenconf”.

Haven Instagram 1

We’ve also started up a linky party over at the Haven Conference site (for attendees) – if you are joining us please link up your blog and visit those who will be attending as well!

Haven-maven

And of course, feel free to add the Haven Maven button to your blog to let everyone know you’ll be there!

{There are more cute buttons on our Haven website, so be sure to check them out!)

Are any of my wonderful Beneath My Heart

readers attending the

Haven conference this year?

Please be sure to let me know in the comments. Smile

Have a blessed day!
