Newel Posts add Old House Character and Charm

Hello, friends!

I hope you are having a great week so far! Smile

You are not going to believe what I did all day yesterday.

I was decorating my Christmas tree!  Kid you not.

I’m participating in the Home Depot Style Challenge: Holiday Edition, and the area of the home that I was given to decorate was the Christmas tree.  (Yay!)

Home Depot Style Challenge: Holiday Edition

My project has to be finished by the first of next week, so I have been busy getting it together.  Yesterday, I was singing Christmas carols all day long.  Crazy, yet fun!

Another place in our home that I am excited about decorating this upcoming Christmas season is our staircase.

Cy is currently building our newel post for our new staircase, and we will share how he did it with you soon.

I wanted a thick, chunky newel post, like the newel posts in some of my favorite pictures from Pinterest, to add some Old House Character and Charm to our new addition.

I would like to share them with you today.

Be still my heart!

I guess it’s pretty obvious the type of newel post that I love.  We are planning on painting ours white, and maybe staining the very top of the newel post to match the stair treads.  We are also planning on painting the spindles white.

The Sanding Crew {You HAVE to watch this video…guaranteed smiles!}

*****If you are reading this post through an email, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, visit my blog to see the video.  You do not want to miss this one…it’s heeeeelarious!

Well, we are moving right along with our staircase makeover!

Monday, I shared with you Part One of our Staircase Makeover.

Tuesday, I shared with you Part Two: How to prepare and “strip” your staircase.

And today, I am going to show you how to sand your staircase.

Now, some people think that sanding is the worse part…so tedious and dusty!

But let me give you some advice that will make this step so much easier…

Hire a Sanding Crew!!!

We did!

And we couldn’t be happier with the results!

Check out this video of all their hard work:

Super Easy!

I was able to sit back and get caught up on my favorite tv shows while they were working.  :)

Unfortunately, they are not for hire.

Well, unless you can pay them in bubble gum, star war figures, baseball cards, and a whoopie cushion…then they may be willing to talk.

Thanks for stopping by.

Next up…staining the stairs!

See you, then…

Our Staircase Makeover: Part One

It’s time.

We have lived in this house for almost 7 years, and IT’S TIME!

We are finally tackling our staircase!  Woohoo!

This is a project I have wanted to do since we moved into this house, but with so many other projects that needed to be completed first, my staircase just kept getting bump to the bottom of the “to do” list.

But atlas, no more!

Here we go, ladies!

By the end of the week, (hopefully) I will be revealing my new beautiful staircase!

I made a little video to get us started.
(If you are reading this post in your email, you may have to click on the post title to view the video on my blog.)

Have you completed a makeover on your staircase?
If so, share the link in the comments. I would love to see them! :)
It’s gonna be fun, so be sure to be back tomorrow! :)
