Cute Baby Shower Idea (and some announcements)

April 22, 2010 AT 6:11 am 34 Comments

On Sunday, I went to a baby shower for my precious cousin, Whitney. She is pregnant with her first child, a baby girl!

My Aunt Pat, (Mom’s youngest sister), hosted the shower at her home.

IMG_0085

Like a goof-ball, I forgot to take my camera, but I did snap a few pictures of the decorations on my phone.

How cute is that tu-tu around the punch bowl?

IMG_0086

My favorite little decoration was these adorable little baby booties my Aunt Pat made with styrofoam cups.

Aren’t they adorable?!

Of course, I had to have a tutorial!

IMG_0088

We gathered around the kitchen counter as Aunt Pat showed us how she made them.

First, cut the top off of the styrofoam cup.

IMG_0102

Then cut two slits in the cup about an inch apart…

IMG_0104

Push the middle section between the two slits back…

IMG_0105

Then fold the sides over the middle section…

IMG_0108

Secure the pieces with a staple and glue a little pink or blue ribbon on top of the staple. Aunt Pat put some netting in the bootie to hold the candy mints. Too cute!!!

IMG_0109

Thanks for the demonstration, Aunt Pat!

I just had to take a picture of these strawberries…you don’t even want to know how many of these I ate! :)

IMG_0084

And I had to have one of these too. They were “melt in your mouth” good!

IMG_0087

There were beautiful pink roses that greeted us when we walked in the front door..

IMG_0092

A cute little vignette with Whitney’s framed baby shower invitation…

IMG_0093

I wanted to steal this bear! Shhhh…don’t tell anyone…

IMG_0094

A few baby decorations hanging from the chandelier…

IMG_0096

And look at one of the presents Whitney got…

IMG_0099

My mom’s cousin, whom we all call “Baby Doll”, ordered this from one of my sponsors, Red Letter Words. It was absolutely beautiful!!

It was a wonderful baby shower and such a blessing to celebrate this very special time in Whitney’s life!

I also wanted to share an announcement with you.

correct-paradeofhomes

Monday I will be participating in a blog Parade of Homes at Poppies at Play!

I was so honored (and a little intimidated) to be invited. I don’t really feel like my home is worthy of being in a parade of homes, but I had to take advantage of such a wonderful opportunity.

I am trying to get my master bedroom renovation finished in time for the Parade. My home (3 rooms) will be featured on Monday, and the Parade will c
ontinue throughout the week. I hope you will join me!

Secondly, be sure to mark your calendar for my second linky party, “Best DIY Projects of April.” It’s next Friday, April 30th!

That’s only one week away!

$4 Artwork for my room

April 15, 2010 AT 6:39 am 26 Comments

Well, you know that I am trying to accessorize my master bedroom on the cheap, so today I stopped by the Habitat store and picked up a couple of frames.

They were only two dollars each, so I spent a whopping $4.00!

They are matted for a 8 x 10 picture which is exactly what I needed.

IMG_6259

I spray painted them both black and sanded the edges just a bit.

I got my artwork for the frames from Vintage Printable online…just printed them off of my computer right at home!

There is a wealth of vintage prints that you can download and print for FREE! Love that!

I turned the mat around in the frame so it would be white instead of cream, and added the bird’s nest prints that I downloaded…

IMG_6263

I still do not have the side tables for my room figured out, so right now I just have a table from around the house sitting there.

IMG_6264

I am wanting to find a desk for this side of the room..

IMG_6266

As you can see, I am trying to add touches of blue to the room. It was needing some color!

IMG_6267

Not bad for FREE!

IMG_6269

This one is my favorite. I love the little blue eggs…

IMG_6271

I am hoping to find some matching lamps for both sides of my bed. Lamps are so expensive, so I am trying to find some at a thrift store.

Another great site to get free prints is The Graphics Fairy.

Here are some I downloaded from her site…

IMG_6273

She has a ton of cool pictures, not just birds.

The pictures I made really added a nice touch to the room, and they were totally worth only $4.00!

So if you are needing artwork for your room, be sure to check both of these sites out!

Candle Makeover

February 22, 2010 AT 6:43 am 40 Comments

I spent the weekend on several projects, but unfortunately none of them turned out quite the way I had hoped.

So I will be tweaking them this week and hopefully sharing them with you soon.

In the meantime, I will share with you a fun little project I tried last week.

I got my inspiration from a magazine I was flipping through at a bookstore.

It was a picture of a grouping of candles covered in sheet music.

I went off to Hobby Lobby to buy some candles and scrapbook paper.

I was hoping to find some sheet music scrapbook paper, but they didn’t have any.

So I chose a paper that looked like script writing.

IMG_5579

I also got some brown ribbon, but ended up not using it.

First, I covered the back of the paper with ModPodge.

IMG_5582

Then I wrapped the paper around the candle and trimmed the excess. When it was mostly dry, I added another layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper.

IMG_5584

Then to give it more of an “aged” look, I added a layer of Valspar Mocha Glaze with a paper towel.

IMG_5644

I had three candles. One tall one, and two medium ones.

IMG_5591

I wanted them to all be different sizes, so I cut the bottom off of one of them with my electric knife.

Yup. I did.

IMG_5602

That little electric knife was “going to town” but was having trouble cutting all the way through the candle.

So I had to get out the “big dog” and finish it up.

IMG_5603

Oh….the crafty wisdom I share on this blog!

Okay. Maybe not the best method. But I got the result I wanted. I stuck them in the wooden fruit stand I made last week to see what they would look like.

IMG_5614

The candles in my inspiration picture from the magazine had cute little ribbons hanging from them.

I tried several different ribbons, but couldn’t get the look I was after.

So a resorted to my old friend, Mr. Burlap.

I thought I took a picture of the next step, but I couldn’t find it.

I took my tan burlap and spray painted it black. I’ve never tried this before, so I was feeling rather brilliant for coming up with the idea.

I love burlap. I love black. I love black burlap!

Then I cut a strip of the burlap and wrapped it around my candles.

IMG_5620

But it needed something more.

So I took the “Spare Parts” that I had left over from my Magnet Board tutorial, and added a little bling.

image

IMG_5605

I think I like it better with the bling.

IMG_5627

I am not totally blown away with the results, but I am blown away with how easy it was to do.

I started thinking about how cute it would be to wrap candles in a damask print or an animal print. There are so many different types of scrapbooking paper that you could find something to match the decor in any room in your house. You could embellish the candles with just about anything…monograms, jute string, ribbons, charms, etc.

Let me know if you try this and send me some pictures. I know you ladies will come up with some beautiful ideas!

Wooden Fruit Stand

February 18, 2010 AT 6:56 am 60 Comments

Last month I found a cute little wooden fruit stand at Goodwill.

IMG_5588

I guess it’s a fruit stand? I’m sure it could hold many other things as well.

My eye was immediately drawn to it because of it’s shape. I loved all of the curves all over it. Very cottage-y.

IMG_5586

I wasn’t crazy about the dark wood color, but knew that it would look great painted white.

And it was only $3.50! I knew I would use it somewhere…if not in my house, then in our guest house.

When you are shopping for items at Goodwill, look at the shape or outline of an item. If it is an ugly color or has an ugly picture on it, don’t let that stop you from buying it. Paint covers a multitude of ugliness!

I tried something a little different on this piece. I rubbed all of the edges that I would be sanding with candle wax before I primed it.

Why? Because sometimes I have trouble sanding off the primer to get down to the wood. It frustrates the heck out of me!

I saw somewhere in blogland that someone used candlewax on the edges before painting. So I thought I would give it a try!

After I rubbed all the edges with my candle, I used a spray primer to prime it.

Then I painted the whole thing white. I used Krylon Satin white spray paint from Walmart.

IMG_5598

I had to paint it in the garage and then bring it inside to dry. I cannot wait for warmer weather so I can do more painting outside!

Then I used my sanding sponge to sand all of the edges. I think the candle wax worked! The paint just sanded right off!

IMG_5599

IMG_5600

Ooooh, I loved how it was turning out!

Then for the final step, I applied a layer of Valspar Mocha Glaze to give it a little more of a vintage look.

IMG_5644

I got this bottle at Lowe’s forever ago, and I have done a million projects with it. It lasts for-e-va!

I applied the glaze with a paper towel, and wiped it on and off until I got the look I was after. It’s a subtle difference, but I love how it turned out!

IMG_5601

Then I just put some of my artificial apples I got from Marshall’s in it, and I was finished!

I love it!

Now for a parade of pictures of my little beauty…

IMG_5639

IMG_5640

Well, that’s all!

A very easy project, but I am so happy with the way it turned out.

My first video tutorial

February 15, 2010 AT 6:06 pm 76 Comments

I just posted a tutorial on how to make my magnet boards earlier today.  I had hoped to post my video, but couldn’t get it to work.

Making this video and trying to post it has definitely been a learning experience!

I tried to upload it 4 or 5 times but nothing worked.

I finally tried to upload a different copy of the video, and it worked!  Unfortunately, this video wasn’t the one I wanted to post.  I had better music on the other one, but oh well!  What do you do?

I hope and pray that you will still keep following me after you watch this.  Promise me that you won’t think I’m a weird-o, okay?

Pinky promise?

(You may want to hit pause and let the video fully load before playing.)

Nervously awaiting your approval…

Magnet Board Tutorial

February 15, 2010 AT 3:28 pm 33 Comments

(Updated: If you would like to see the video tutorial of this same project, click HERE.)

Hello, ladies!

I am a little disappointed about my post today. I worked all day Saturday on creating a video to show you how to make my Ballard Designs inspired magnet board. Then I spent several hours yesterday and this morning trying to upload it, and I couldn’t get it to work! UGH!

I had a lot of fun making the video and was excited to share it with you. However, it’s not going to happen today. If for some reason, I figure out how to make it work, I might post it later.

Here is my inspiration:

IMG_2692

I love these magnet boards from Ballard Designs. But they are $39 a piece! I immediately said, “I can make that!” And for a lot less!

So I found a 12×18 sheet of aluminum at Lowe’s for $4.66.

It is a very thin piece of metal, so I decided to “thicken” it up a bit by adding cork board to the back. I had found these squares of cork at Goodwill for 50 cents each. They are about a centimeter thick, and can be purchased at most craft stores, maybe even at Walmart.

IMG_2672

Lowe’s had two types of 12×18 sheets of metal. One was more expensive than the one I purchased, so I took a picture of the exact one you want to buy…

IMG_2675

Then I cut the cork board into two inch wide strips and hot glued it down the sides of the magnet board. You could cover the entire back of the board with cork, but I was trying to save the cork board I had for other projects.

IMG_2676

It will look like this when you are finished gluing the cork down…

IMG_2677

Lay the board on the material you want to use. I am using leftover drop cloth material for this one.

IMG_2679

Fold the material over the edges and hot glue in down.

IMG_2680

Fold over the corners and hot glue them down. Don’t worry if they do not lay down perfectly, it’s on the back and no one will ever see it! :)

IMG_2681

Add some ribbon by hot gluing it down in the middle and cutting the ends.

IMG_2684

Hot glue your ribbon to the back of the board…

IMG_2685

You can leave the back like this, or you can cover the back with material. I cover the back with material for the ones I sell in my Etsy shop because it gives more of a finished look.

IMG_2686

IMG_2687

To make some custom magnets, I picked up this package of “Spare parts” at Hobby Lobby for half off. ($2.50) The round magnets were two dollars, I think. Then I just hot glued the “spare parts” onto my magnets, and that was it!

1204256640

They are so cute on my burlap magnet board.

Untitled 0 00 16-13

FYI: If you cover your metal board with burlap, be sure to spray paint the front of the metal with white or off white paint. This keeps the metal from “shinning” through the burlap. (I know this from experience.) :)

Untitled 0 00 26-20

Here is another board I made for my Etsy shop. I’ve been dying to make one with some pink on it. I think these would be so cute in a little girl’s room. I chose a brown material with pink polk-a-dots and a pink ribbon. (The back is covered in the same material.)

Untitled 0 00 23-19

Untitled 0 00 06-20

That’s it! These are super easy to do, and I know all you crafty ladies out there could make some fabulous ones. You can use any color of material and ribbon to match your own home decor.

Let me know if you try this!

And if you don’t want to make it yourself, I can make it for you.

They are for sale in my Etsy shop. You can visit it by clicking on the button in my side bar.

If you have any questions, just let me know!

No Sew Roman Shade

January 13, 2010 AT 10:31 pm 49 Comments

First of all, I want to say that if this post doesn’t make sense, it’s because I have a cold, and I just took some NyQuil! :)

Any-whooooo

I have a “to do” list a mile long. Wanna look-see?

*slipcover the couch in the guest house

*make a shower curtain for guest house bathroom

*make curtains for guest house bedroom windows

*put bunk beds in Adam’s room so Eli can move in

*turn Eli’s room in to my new craft room

*paint my office

*re-do my entire master bedroom, and on, and on, and on….

So what do I do this week?

I see a great idea of how to make No Sew Roman Shades on Monday, and all of a sudden it becomes a new project that jumps to the top of my “to do” list!

I’ve got issues. Serious issues.

I saw this post from Frugal Home Ideas on how to make a No Sew Roman Shade. I thought it would be great for my office.

The problem is that I have been shoving things into my office since the beginning of the holiday season. It looks like this now…

IMG_5146

Yup. That’s it.

I was planning on cleaning it up, painting the walls my favorite color, (Khaki Shade by Sherwin Williams), and sprucing it up before I showed it to you.

Too late now.

We installed the faux wood blinds when we bought the house 5 years ago. However, I’ve been too lazy to shorten the blinds, and they were just a bit too long.

IMG_5148

Wow, I’m just letting it all hang out here, aren’t I?

So, here’s what I did.

I took the blinds down and laid them on the floor.

IMG_5149

I numbered the blinds so I could see which ones I wanted to keep. I was keeping every 5th blind.

IMG_5150

Then I carefully cut the string below each of the blinds that I didn’t want to keep. You do NOT want to cut the pull strings!

IMG_5153

Then I took the bottom piece off of the blinds.

IMG_5154

And slid all of the blinds off.

IMG_5155

At this point, I was questioning if I had any idea whatsoever what I was doing. But I persevered.

I put every 5th blind back on the strings, and when I hung them back up, they looked like this.

IMG_5156

I used some off-white material and some black-out lining that I already had to make my shade.

I cut the black-out lining an inch and a half wider than the blinds, and about a foot longer than the window.

IMG_5157

Then I laid the black out lining on top of my material and used it as a pattern.

IMG_5158

Now the next step may have not been necessary, but I did it anyway.

I used a double-sided fusion lining to attach the material to the black-out lining. I followed the instructions on the fusion lining.

IMG_5159

I laid the fusion lining on the material like this.

IMG_5160

I used my iron to attach the fusion lining.

IMG_5161 />

Then I pulled back the paper part of the fusion lining.

IMG_5163

And then I ironed my material to the black-out lining causing the two pieces to stick together. (Like I said, I don’t know if this was necessary.)

IMG_5165

Next, I laid the blind on top of the back of my curtain.

IMG_5166

I used fabric glue to glue the material to the top bar of the blinds.

IMG_5168

Make sure you do not glue the material to the outside two inches of the top bar or you won’t be able to put it back into the brackets in the window.

IMG_5169

I flipped each blind over and applied my fabric glue. Then I flipped the blind back over and pressed it to the material.

IMG_5170

Make sure you do not get glue on any of the strings or it won’t work properly.

Then I turned the sides of the material over about a half inch…

IMG_5173

Put some hot glue on each blind…

IMG_5174

Flipped the material over again on top of the hot glue.

IMG_5175

I did this all the way down the side of the curtain creating a hem.

IMG_5176

IMG_5172

I pressed over the hem to make it more crisp.

IMG_5178

Then I put the shade back into the brackets.

IMG_5179

The extra material that I didn’t glue down laid perfectly over the bracket.

IMG_5180

I then used my glue gun to create a hem on the bottom of the blind.

IMG_5181

I tied a knot with all the strings on the bottom blind.

IMG_5182

I used my hot gun to attach the fringe.

IMG_5184

And I was finished!

I am pleased with how it turned out, but it definitely clashes with the yellow on my walls. Now I am going to have to add “painting the office” up to the top of my “to do” list.

IMG_5196

IMG_5203

IMG_5189

IMG_5199

IMG_5197

Okay, that’s it.

I finished a project that I had no idea I was going to be doing this week. I’ve got to stop looking at other blogs…you guys inspire me too much and get me off track! :)

The NyQuil is kicking in really good now, and I am getting ready to crash.

Goodnight.

This might be my favorite project ever!

January 7, 2010 AT 12:24 pm 101 Comments

Hey, ya’ll! This might be my favorite project ever because it is like nothing I have made before!

I showed you this picture on Tuesday as a little “tease”.

IMG_4989

I found these at Goodwill. Aren’t they gorgeous? I feel in love with them and had to get them. It is a headboard/footboard set for a twin bed. There were no rails to go with it, but that was okay because I didn’t need them….I had other plans.

I happily paid $25.00 for the set and went home.

I have been trying to come up with a creative towel rack for my guest house bathroom. My guest house is a little more cottage-y, so I like to decorate with more of a vintage feel.

I was blog-surfing the night before I found these beauties, and I saw a post that got my wheels a turnin’.

Jenn, at Livin’ the Simple Life made a coat rack out of a headboard. She also made the bench below it. The girl is crazy crafty and you must visit her blog!

projects 055

I just loved her coat rack and thought it was super creative.

When I saw the headboard and footboard at Goodwill the next day, I knew it must be fate!

One of those babies were destined to become my towel rack for my bathroom.

So here’s what I did…

After holding both the headboard and footboard up against my bathroom wall to see which one “fit” best, I decided to go with the headboard.

My bathroom in the guest house is not very big, but this headboard was going to make a big statement!

First I had to cut the legs off the headboard, so I used my hubby’s Skil Saw.

IMG_5053

She’s lookin’ good already!

IMG_5056

Now some of you may think I am crazy for painting this beauty. I know some of you would have left her alone. But I’m not sentimental like that. I needed her to be white, so white she would be!

Now I needed to prepare the surface to paint. Instead of sanding it with sandpaper, I used a liquid deglosser to do the trick. It is soooo easy. Just pour it on a cloth and wipe it all over the wood surface!

IMG_5000I let that dry, and then I began painting. My paint of choice is this little quart of Valspar paint. It can be found over by the spray paint cans at Lowes. There is a sign above it that says something like “high performance” or “extremely durable” paint. The workers at Lowes suggested we use this on our kitchen cabinets and we did. We love it!

So I used a brush to paint in any of the grooves.

IMG_5058

IMG_5059

Then I used my roll brush to paint the smooth surfaces. (No I am not left-handed, I just needed my right hand to take the picture!)

IMG_5060

Here she is after 3 or 4 coats…ahhhhh….

IMG_5063

Here’s the hardest part of the process…

let it dry.

It’s very important to let it dry REAL good before sanding.

Luckily, I got something in the mail to distract me.

I have a special bloggy friend, Kim at My Domestic Bliss, who sent me this HUGE block of Hershey’s chocolate. She’s precious!

IMG_5064

It was sooooo good!

(I know I’m looking a little rough in this picture, but give me a break girls, I’m in the middle of a project!)

That thing was bigger than my head!

IMG_5068

The boys got into the action as well. Oh yeah, baby!

IMG_5070

Let’s re-focus, shall we? After the paint was good and dry, I used my sanding sponge to sand the edges of the headboard.

IMG_5071

There’s no rhyme or reason to this step. Just sand as little or as much as you’d like to get the look you are after.

IMG_5072

When I cut the bottom of the headboard off with my Skil Saw, it left a raw edge that needed a little work. I needed to fill an obvious groove in with some wood filler.

IMG_5074

I just pushed the wood filler into the groove with my finger and the let it dry.

IMG_5076

Then I used my sanding sponge to sand it to a smooth finish, and it was ready to paint.

IMG_5080

To get a more “aged” look, I like to cover my white paint with my favorite glaze, Valspar “Mocha”.

IMG_5001

I used a paper towel to cover the headboard with the glaze.

IMG_5077

Then I used a damp paper towel to wipe it right back off. (See left side of headboard.) I love the way the glaze got in the “groves” on the headboard and brought out so many of the details.

IMG_5078

Now I needed to attach my hooks. I found these cute little hooks at Hobby Lobby for half off. I bought 3 hooks for $1.50 a piece. Total=$4.50! I also got these wood screws at Lowe’s for a buck or two.

IMG_5081

I attached the hooks with the wood screws.

IMG_5089

It’s getting pretty late in the evening at this point and well….

IMG_5088

Yep! I did it. There goes my New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier! Thanks, Kim! ;)

Oh well. It was worth it.

As you can see, the silver screw does not look very good with my black hook, so I got a little black paint and dabbed it on the screw.

IMG_5091

Perfect!

IMG_5093

I bought some heavy duty mirror hangers at Lowes to mount the headboard on the wall. They were a dollar a piece.

IMG_5083

Now I did make the headboard by myself, but my hubby helped me hang it on the wall. It was very heavy (like a large mirror).

When you are hanging something this heavy, you need to make sure that you hammer the nails into the studs in the wall.

My husband insisted he help me with this part, which was fine by me.

We found the
studs in the wall and measured the distance between them. Then we attached the hangers on the back of the headboard the same distance apart.

IMG_5095 We hung it on the wall and I feel in love.

It’s exactly what I wanted.

But I am bummed at how my pictures turned out. There is no window in the bathroom, so I had no natural sunlight in which to take the pictures.

Notice the beautiful natural light right outside the bathroom.

IMG_5143

This is a piece of the bedroom furniture that I painted this summer. I’m storing the towels and blankets in there. I found the adorable locker room basket at a yard sale for $5.00. It’s perfect for storing the little wash cloths. My sweet mother-in-law bought me these new white towels for our guest house.

IMG_5144

Now into bathroom…

IMG_5141

I love the way it turned out. (Though I don’t think these pictures show it’s true beauty. My walls are a pretty tan, not mustard yellow!))

IMG_5140

And now for a parade of pictures…

IMG_5138

IMG_5136 IMG_5124

IMG_5135

IMG_5132

IMG_5120

I loved this project because it was a little “out of the box” for me, which made it tons of fun. And it brings the uniqueness I was looking for in a towel rack.

Now I still have the footboard…hmmm….

Another Fun Tile Creation!

December 27, 2009 AT 11:22 pm 36 Comments

Hello, all!

I wanted to share with you a quick little something I made that I absolutely love.

IMG_4832

It’s another cute little tile!

I showed you how to make coasters from tiles a while back ago.

IMG_4110

You can read about those HERE.

Well, I saw on another blog how to make coasters with tiles using rubber stamps instead of decoupage.

It looked so simple that I went to Lowe’s and bought some more tiles. And since I didn’t need any more coasters, I decided to make something else.

I used a black StazOn ink pad that I got half off at Hobby Lobby and a stamp that I have had for years in a closet. The StazOn ink is permanent and will not smear or come off . (Great for coasters.)

IMG_4922

I stamped it in the middle of the tile and hot glued a little gingham bow to the top.

IMG_4460

IMG_4461

This little tile would be cute anywhere! You could hang it on a wall or sit in on a desk or dresser.

I decided to add something to the back so it could be hung on the wall.

I got my favorite material, burlap, and cut a square piece a little smaller than the tile.

I hot glued the burlap square to the back of the tile.

Then I used some jute string to make a “hanger” on the back. I hot glued the string in place.

To give it more of a “finished” look, I used some little decorative buttons I had left over from another project.

I hot glued the buttons over the ends of the jute string.

And now it is ready to hang!

But for now, I have enjoyed displaying it on my buffet table with my Christmas decorations.

I love black and white gingham. And this little tile matches my GW topiaries with gingham bows (that I added) in my hutch.

This project was so easy to do, and I am brainstorming some more little projects with tiles. I would like to use some bigger tiles next time. Wouldn’t they be cute monogrammed? Hmmm….

Clever Gift Wrapping Idea

December 13, 2009 AT 11:00 pm 23 Comments

Here’s another idea I saw in blogland that I just had to try!

I got my inspiration from a fabulous blog called Blue Cricket Design. If you haven’t been there, you need to go check it out.

How cute is that? You can read about it here.

I thought this would be a great idea for teacher gifts. With four kids, I have a lot of teachers that I need to buy presents for. So I try not spend a lot of money on teacher gifts, but I do try to put some thought in it.

I was an elementary school teacher for 6 years, and received many gifts from my students, many of which I still have today. I can honestly say that it wasn’t the gift that mattered most, but the thought! One of my favorite gifts was a 12 pack of diet coke! The mom of one of my students knew how much I loved them, so she got me some.

So if the gifts are small, why not dress them up a bit!

Here’s what I did…

I took a large can of soup and removed the label.IMG_4354

Then I opened up the bottom of the can with a can opener, emptied out the soup, (in other words…I ate it.), then rinsed and cleaned out the inside of the can. (I even rinsed it with a little bit of bleach and let it sit out over night to dry to make sure I got rid of any “soup” smell.)

IMG_4355

Then I bought some cute Christmas paper at Hobby Lobby, 50% off, of course!

I cut it the same size of the can, wrapped it around the can, and secured it with my hot glue gun.

Next, I filled the can with some candy and a gift card.

Here are some other ideas of things you could put in the can:

*gloves

*movie tickets

*cute magnets

*Christmas socks

*pair of earrings, or a piece of jewelry

*nail polish, nail clippers, etc.

*hand lotions

*lipstick, chapstick, makeup, etc.

*a key chain

I could go on and on….the possibilities are limitless!

After you fill the can with goodies, hot glue the bottom of the can back on. It really does stay shut!

IMG_4445

Then add a bunch of fancy ribbons to the top. I used some I already had at home and a couple that I bought at Hobby Lobby.

IMG_4495

I added a little tag that says “pull my tab”.

IMG_4490

And I’m done! I think my sons’ teachers will love receiving this and opening it up. I know I would!!!

IMG_4493

I know I could have just bought a gift bag to put the gift in, but it wouldn’t have been near as much fun to open!

I am linking this little project to all my favorite little places…
