Beneath My Heart

10 Beautiful Laundry Rooms!

Trends & Inspiration

29 Feb

Well, I have been scouring the internet looking for beautiful laundry rooms to help me with ideas for my sister’s laundry room makeover.

Here is a great laundry room makeover by Jennifer from Blissfully Ever After.

image

I love the way she just took off the middle cabinet door to create a whole new custom look with open shelving.  Genius!

And the paint color on the walls and cabinets definitely helped to freshen up the space.

I love the idea of creating storage underneath Cyndi’s washer and dryer like the picture below.

image

House of Turquoise

I’ve heard mixed reviews about having storage underneath the washer and dryer.  What is your opinion.  Do you have it?  Love it?  Hate it?

I am hoping to replace the ugly florescent light in Cyndi’s laundry room.

Look at this beautiful chandelier.  It completely makes the laundry so charming.

I’m not sure a chandelier will go with the rest of the décor in my sister’s home, but a hanging  lantern light would.

Look at this beauty! I’m kind of lovin’ that wallpaper too. If you do not like floral wall paper, maybe you would prefer a geometric pattern. image

I love everything about this next laundry room.  I love how there is an open shelf between the two closed cabinets.  I love the sink in the middle and the light above it.  I also love how they have counter space above each washer and dryer. (And I love that rug too!)

Darby left the link for me on my facebook page, and I immediately pinned it on Pinterest.

Here is another example of having open shelving between closed cabinets.  I love the molding at the top of the cabinets too.

My sister wants a place to hang her clothes to dry.  I like the way they incorporated a drying space between the two cabinets in the picture below.

But I am thinking that a drying rack like the one below would work well in Cyndi’s laundry room.

(could not find source anywhere)

We haven’t decided whether to paint the cabinets white or give them a touch of color.  These cabinets are beautiful.  I like the folding space above the washer and dryer and the touch of adding “legs” to make it look like a table.

Speaking of adding color,  I love this beautiful rug in Jennifer’s laundry room from IHeart Organizing.

Have you been to her blog?  I hadn’t until today, and Good Golly that girl is talented.  Just check out her home tour.  I can only DREAM of being that organized. And she has 3 boys!  How in the world does she do it?

Well, my creative juices are flowing, and I cannot wait to get started on Cyndi’s laundry room.

I hope to be sharing more soon!

These are such beautiful spaces. Does anybody else ever show photos like these to their husbands and recieve blank “why on earth would we spend money on a laundry room” look? Do you think a posh laundry room adds much to a home’s resale value? If there is a woman in the house, then YES, I would think it would make a big impact on the buyer’s emotional attachment to the house.

Other than that, my only peeve about some of those pictures is that it really seems like some of those drying racks are too low (too close to the countertops) to actually hang a shirt from properly. Make sure you hang the rods high enough!

Centsational Girl made her own retractable drying racks, didn’t she?? yep, found it: http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2009/07/diy-laundry-room-drying-rack/

Have fun with this makeover! I’m living vicariously!

Love these laundry rooms and pinned two of them! Perfection! You had me at that silver backsplash on the decor pad feature. Absolutely beautiful.

    Thanks for sharing,

I had storage under my washer and dryer and loved it. I bought it with the washer and dryer initially. Then they both died on the same day and replaced them with a top loader. I will never ever go back to a front loader again. Top loader is so much better and isn’t so industrial looking. I do miss the storage though underneath.

I actually really like the one that you do. It is absolutely beautiful! As far as using the ‘under the machine’ storage, we have them and they’re okay. Not much storage offered, but enough to put away ugly bottles, extra garbage bags, etc.

They tend to raise the machines to a nice level, so there’s not much bending, but raising them tends to take away the ‘table-like’ space that the machine tops offer for folding, etc. I’m a little on the taller side, so it works for me, but if there’s no other folding space in the room, it’s something to take into consideration.

I’m excited for you guys and can’t wait to see how it goes!! :O)

I know that the laundry room from Darby was done by her sister Eric from Urban Grace Interiors. I found this link on Decor Pad:

And just when you were sick of me, I show up with the original source:

These cupboards inspired my kitchen a bit…you’d have thought I had know where this one was!!

Oh, to have a laundry room…. However, with a leaky washing machine the basement floor is best:)

My aunt has a laundry closet in her bathroom with a hanging rod above it which could be used for drying clothes on hangers. But the neat thing I saw her use it for was putting used towels and washcloths on hangers after use by guests until wash time. No piles of wet linens.

Love the inspiration, although I’m disappointed you didn’t feature my space (ha!). That Jen from IHeartOrganizing is insane, isn’t she? She’s got great printables, too.

Martha Stewart makes drying racks like those and they are sold thru Home Depot. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=202655482&storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&cpncode=26-111505918-2&srccode=cii_16776730&cm_mmc=shopping-_-pronto-_-23-_-202655482
There are several different models at various prices (tho’ it’d be easy to make with some dowels and some scrap lumber painted in a nice smooth glossy paint ;-) She also sold on her site some years ago a great rack that lowered on a pulley from the ceiling. I don’t see it there now but I will keep looking.
Here’s a modern version of a classic design laundry lift

But this is my all time favorite :
    http://www.castinstyle.co.uk/product.php/285/302/clothes_airer

You see these all the time in Britain – if you seach for clothes airer you will get more stylish items than if you look for laundry drying rack.

Sorry for posting twice but here’s a tutorial on Martha’s site with very similar racks to the ones shown in the room above:

Love the storage under the appliances. It keeps the tops from being a catch all. I keep a basket on the top of mine for items.
