Decorating with Color: Navy Blue!

Hey friends!   Happy Hump Day!

Today I want to talk about one of my favorite colors to decorate with this year…Navy Blue!

This past year, I have added navy blue into our living room through some pretty pillows and throws

And I also added a few small touches in our kitchen (remember my fall tablescape?)…

But I’m looking for more ways to add this pretty color to my home, and I wanted to share some great inspiration pictures with you.

I haven’t painted any walls in my home navy blue, but it is definitely stunning!  Navy blue walls look great in a “modern farmhouse” home.

If you don’t want too much navy blue on the walls, maybe you could combine it with a wall treatment like this board and batten.

Check out the beautiful blue couch below.  I know it is not navy blue, but more of a denim blue, but it looks so pretty paired with navy blue and green pillows.

I designed a navy blue sofa for the LaZboy event, and I can’t wait to show it too you on Monday!

Do you have a bathroom that needs a little refresh?  Why not paint your bathroom cabinet a beautiful shade of blue?

I love navy blue cabinets in the kitchen too.  Although I would probably keep the navy blue on the lower cabinets, and paint the upper cabinets a lighter color like gray or white to keep the kitchen looking bright and fresh.

Don’t feel like painting?  Ha!  How about a navy blue rug in your home?

Or some navy blue touches in your bedding or curtains?

I really do feel like you can’t go wrong with navy blue.  It’s such a classic color that always looks fresh.

  1. Navy is such a classic. Almost a neutral. Looks so fresh and crisp. I especially like the rug.

  2. Even though I don’t have any navy blue in my home I’ve always thought it is such a classic and timeless color. Pair it with white, or yellow, or green and it’s so fresh. Thanks for such great ways to use this…I may just have to give it a shot somewhere – like a bathroom I’m getting ready to work on :).

  3. I’ve always felt by Navy like I do black. It’s classy, crisp and elegant. Thanks for sharing. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  4. Summer of 2015 I had custom navy cushions made for old white Bentwood dining chairs and added a three season room to the house. Chose white furniture with navy cushions for the outdoor room. Looked great; navy is an excellent background color for throw pillows, etc.

    Summer of 2016 I adopted/rescued a long-haired Ragdoll cat.

Spring of 2017 I purchased a Bissell Pet Hair Remover and those outdoor navy cushions are now covered with folded bath towels. Lol. Still love navy and white with green and yellow accents, though. Also love the cat.

  5. Navy blue has been my favorite color for years! In our prior home, I had navy walls in the dining room with white gloss trim and white gloss wainscoting. Then our large rug had navy, burgundy and bits of green in it. I found awesome curtains that were white with a navy swirl pattern in them!! Gor-ge-ous! Now that we have moved, I use navy in our neutral bedroom along with turquoise and mint green. LOVE it. And I have navy cushions in our pool chairs outside. So, you see I really do love navy! Thanks for the great pictures you shared.

  6. Yes! I just made navy curtains for my dining room to pull out the blue from my Russian China set.

  7. My house is western for my cowboy husband. In our bedroom I painted the wall navy with white ceiling and woodwork. The curtains are sections of fabric in calico that make stripes of navy, beige, red, red again and baige and last navy. Then the bedspread is a patchwork quilt with navy, beige, and red in it. It made for a very manly country look. Then I put in brushed silver lamps. That and the navy was for me. Then I have huge indian paintings that a friend of mine did. Spectacular. Oh there is a papose carrier, a leather woven dear head and an indian rug on the wall too. There are indian rug pillows on the bed of elet bordered pillow cases. Can you imagine all this. it is really different and somehow it doesn’t even look dark. I guess I should take pictures and see if I can surprise Country Living. I can say one thing that no one has a bedroom like it. I wish you could see it. Lisa

  8. I found some really pretty patterned curtains at Marshall’s with navy as the back ground color for our family room. I had already painted to thrift store lamps navy and they go perfectly. We have a fairly new beige sectional and I’m recovering the decorative pillows with a navy patterned fabric. All this from a woman who swore she’d never decorate with blue.

  9. Traci, I think I remember you saying that your lamp was from All Modern. Any chance you remember the actual name or style of the lamp beside your sofa? Love it!!!

  10. I absolutely LOVE this navy blue décor!! I have tan/brown as my base color in my living room with turquoise as my accent (peacocks, etc) but I ready to change it up and I think navy will be the go-to color! Thank you for the inspiration!!
