World’s Best Caramel Popcorn {The Perfect New Year’s Party Food!}
I just spent three wonderful days with my in-laws from Georgia! We had a house full of loved ones, and it was awesome!
My sweet sister-in-law, Sarah, makes the most delicious caramel popcorn I’ve ever tasted! It’s a special family recipe. I asked her if she would make some while she was here, so I could share it with my readers. She graciously said “yes.”
This caramel popcorn would make the best snack for any type of get together. I am going to make some for New Year’s Eve.
Here are the ingredients:
2 cups of brown sugar packed
6 quarts of popped popcorn {3 to 4 bags of microwave popcorn}
2 sticks of butter
1/2 cup of corn syrup
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
****************************
Step 1: Pop popcorn in the microwave and place in large casserole dishes. Set aside.
Step 2: Melt two sticks of butter in a large pan on medium high heat.
{See my beautiful sister-in-love?}
Step 3: Add two cups of packed brown sugar to the melted butter and stir.
Step 4: Add 1/2 cup of corn syrup to the pan and stir. {LOVE my new West Elm owl measuring cups from my Secret Santa, Melissa, from The Inspired Room!}
Step 5: Bring mixture to a boil on the stove top. Boil, while stirring, for 5 minutes.
Step 6: Take off heat and add vanilla and baking soda. Stir until it fluffs up.
Step 7: Pour mixture over popcorn.
Step 8: Toss popcorn to coat.
Step 9: Bake at 250 degrees for 1 hour, tossing with a fork every 15 minutes.
Step 10: Join Eli in starring at the popcorn goodness as it bakes.
Step 11: Remove from oven, let cool, and
Enjoy!
Thank you, Sarah, for sharing this special family recipe with me! I had fun cooking in the kitchen with you!
I am so glad I know this recipe, and I know I will be making it for my family for years to come.
If you decide to try it, you will not be disappointed.
Happy New Year!!
I have this exact recipe! Delicious. I made it this year for the first time in several – made 3 recipes, ate almost a whole recipe myself! FYI I buy a huge aluminum turkey roasting pan and can put all of the popcorn in that.
This is one of our Christmas Eve traditions and when we go to Angel baseball games. So yummy! I add peanuts and also make it in a big roasting pan (makes stirring it real easy).
Is the popcorn a salted or unsalted variety? I’m definitely going to try this.
I love caramel corn – I use this same receipe, but I just skip the baking it in the oven step and eat it when it’s all gooey. Happy New Year!
Thank you so very much for sharing this with us…I will surely let you know when I try it….Please may I take this opportunity to wish you & yours the Happiest New Year possible……with all the love and blessings your heart can hold and then some….
2012 has been a very special year for me because I became your friend and I treasure it so very much……
Sending all my love, prayers & blessings your way daily and may 2013 be THE year for you and yours……Our God is Able…..Love you, T
My parents make this every year and give it as gifts to all their friends. Be careful about the temperature on your oven. This year my mom accidentally cooked some at 400 degrees. They quickly realized the problem when they smelled it burning. My dad scraped off the top and ate the bottom. :)
Thank your sister-in-love for the recipe. I wanted to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year.
Traci,
Thank you for sharing this recipe! It is easy to make and delicious. Just finished up a batch for tonight.
Happy New Year to you and all those you hold dear to your heart.
Blessings,
Sandi
This is sooooo good! I haven’t had it in years, but am anxious to dig out my torn and tattered recipe and make a batch. My Mom always made this for us when we were growing up. Thanks for reminding me!
I have been making this caramel corn for 30 years and it is delicious. You will not be disappointed if you try it.
This is my “secret recipe” also… : ) In my circles I am famous for it.
I got it out of an old Church cookbook over 35 yrs. ago. I make it all of the time.
The secret is that it has to be real butter & a few yrs. ago I discovered an addition to my secret.
I used Exrta Butter microwave popcorn, because that was all I had in the house & it was even better. Now that is all I use. I made so many batches over the holidays & my family comes to expect it.
Thanks for sharing & I loved your Christmas, family visit post. Isn’t it fun to all gather together for a few days? We have a lake home & our 3 sons, DIL’s & grandbaby all stayed for a few days.
It was much more fun that just getting together for dinner, to all stay under one roof for a few days…priceless : )
Is there a printer friendly version of this? I would love to copy the recipe but don’t need all the pictures that are included.
This is soooo good and sooo addicting! Thanks Kathy too for the tip on the extra butter microwave popcorn….will try that one!!
I, too, would like a printer friendly version????
I’ve got to try this! Any advice for storing the leftovers? IF there are any that is!
There won’t be any! :)
But if there is, just store it a large ziploc bag.
