Painting Beadboard in the Half Bathroom at Four Gables
I painted the bead board in our half bath at Four Gables, and I love it!

This little half bath under the stairs was not part of the original house plan. The original house plan had the half bath in the foyer right when you walked in the front doors. I wanted to use that space to create a butler’s pantry off the kitchen, so we had to find another place to put the half bath.
As we started framing up the first floor, we realized we had enough unused space under our staircase to put the half bath. It’s small—cozy-small—but it’s also packed with personality and so much intention. To make it feel extra warm and inviting, I added beadboard and chose a soft, earthy color I’ve been dying to use somewhere: Sherwin-Williams Terrain.

Today, I’m sharing the Purdy tools that made the entire process smooth, fast, and actually fun!
🖌️ Why Purdy Tools Were a Must for This Project
Anytime I’m painting trim, beadboard, cabinetry, or small detail-heavy areas, I reach for Purdy.
Every. Single. Time.
For a tiny space like this, where the beadboard has grooves and there’s not much elbow room, using the right tools made ALL the difference.
Two Purdy tools were essential:
1. Purdy Clearcut® Cub Brush

Perfect for:
✓ cutting in along the trim
✓ painting the grooves of the beadboard
✓ detail work in a tight room
This brush truly glides through every groove without dripping or overloading. Because it’s angled and has a short handle, it gets into tight spots—which this little under-the-stairs space has plenty of!

2. Purdy WhiteDove Jumbo Mini Roller (3/4” nap)
This roller was a dream for the beadboard because:

- it holds a TON of paint
- covers the beadboard texture beautifully
- works perfectly in tight spaces
- doesn’t leave lint behind (hallelujah!)
- leaves a smooth finish every time
Rolling beadboard can be tricky with the wrong roller, but the WhiteDove Jumbo Mini roller cover gave me a smooth, even finish with almost no effort.

Since the bathroom is so small, a standard roller would’ve been awkward.
This mini size was perfect.
I loaded up the WhiteDove roller and rolled upward, then smoothed everything with light, full strokes.
The beadboard texture looked flawless after just one pass—no clumps, no missed spots, no weird roller marks.

Together, the Clearcut Cub brush and WhiteDove Jumbo Mini roller made this project quick and easy!
Y’all… I know it’s just a tiny bathroom. But this color… on this beadboard… in this cozy little under-the-stairs nook?

It feels like something from an English cottage.
It feels intentional.
It feels like home.

And to think—it all started from leftover space under our stairs!

💛 Final Thoughts
If you’re building, renovating, or refreshing a space—especially a small one—don’t underestimate the power of beadboard and a beautiful color.
And absolutely do not underestimate the difference good paint tools make.
The Purdy Clearcut Cub brush + the Purdy WhiteDove Jumbo Mini Roller cover were the perfect combo for this project. They made everything smooth, efficient, and enjoyable.
Now I think I want to add some wallpaper above the beadboard. 😉. What do you think?

I am so sorry for your loss, Cy and Traci and family. Earthly parting is always so hard, but you are so blessed to know that he trusted in Jesus as His Saviour so that you will see him again in heaven! Prayers for you, your family and also for your Dad! May you have a blessed Christmas, celebrating that God so lovingly gave His son Jesus, so that he could die on the cross for all our sins and that all who accept Jesus, might have eternal life!
THank you, Dianne!
So sorry to hear about Cy’s dad. So hard. I’m glad he could be with him. Cyndi has told about your dad and I’ve been praying for him so will add Cys side of the family too. All of you I’ll cover in prayer. It is ok not to be in your new home for Christmas. You’ll have many years to come for that. Make your smaller home cozy as I know you have already and enjoy family. Such a cute little bathroom you added. You are talented. Merry Christmas!!!!
Thank you, Kathy. ❤️
