Re-hanging the Hooks in our Laundry Room {And it looks a ton better!}
Have you noticed a theme here this week at Beneath My Heart?
Yep! The Laundry/Mud Room!
Monday, I showed you the velcro skirt I made for the mud sink.
Tuesday, I showed you the mirror makeover for above the mud sink.
Wednesday, I showed you the blue mason jar soap dispenser I made for the mud sink.
Today, I am showing you the new way we hung our hooks in the mud/laundry room.
Tomorrow….well, you’ll have to wait and see! :)
Here is what the hooks looked like when we first hung them up…
My husband installed them right into the drywall. We used the correct drywall screws to make them secure, but we were a little unsure how they would stand up to the heavy backpacks and jackets that would be hanging on them.
They did pretty good for a while…
But then they started getting a little loose…
And then when my son, Adam, hung onto his hook as he was putting up his backpack, this happened…
And then Jonathan’s 10 pound backpack caused this to happen…
It was inevitable!
Normally, this would really upset me.
But I am so glad it happened!!!
Because my husband had to add a piece of wood in between the batten…
He used the same MDF board that he used when he did the board and batten treatment.
See those baskets?
Since I never could find a third basket like the ones in the first picture above, I was on the hunt for some new ones.
But I was still having trouble finding three of the same baskets in the right size to fit in the cubbies.
Plus, I didn’t have much money to spend!
I have to thank my friend Melissa, at 320 Sycamore, who gave her blog readers a heads up about the basket sale at Michael’s.
I was able to get these baskets half off, plus use a 20% off coupon! They were only $9.00 a piece. Not bad!
Thanks, Melissa!
Now look at those hooks!!!
Don’t they look so much better on the new board?
It added an architectural detail that I didn’t know was missing!
(Hooks are from Hobby Lobby.)
Now they are super sturdy, and we don’t have to worry about them falling off again!
I have no idea how I want to accessorize the top of the shelf! I have thrown some things up there for now, but I’m not feeling it.
I’ll have to keep working on that!
So sometimes our mishaps can turn out to be something good!
See you tomorrow for my final Laundy/Mudroom post!
Have a blessed day!
Gorgeous! Honestly. I wanted to ask about your floors and your wall color! Do you have a place where you shared that? Thanks so much, your home is beautiful!
I think it looks amazing! It’s everything that I want but don’t have the right space for. And you are right, that board totally added an architectural detail that you didn’t know you need. that special pop! Nice work.
Your mud room is beautiful, I love the beadboard on the ceiling.
Traci
Traci, it looks wonderful! I probably would have freaked out a bit, but your solution is just perfection! :)
xoxo
What a gorgeous space! Love it! Every house needs a room like this. :-)
Okay, I absolutely love the new look and I love you for posting this! I can’t tell you how many times I finish a project only to have some major FAIL occur days or weeks later. Thanks for keepin’ it real–you made lemonade out of lemons.
The mudroom looks great. Thanks for posting that last picture. It really gives the feel of how it connects with your house. And I love, love, love the ceiling! Super!
Good idea!!! And I love the way it looks too. Is it terrible that I covet your laundry room – LOL. It is beautiful!!!
xoxo

Look so pretty!
That is certainly one of the most beautiful laundry rooms I’ve seen! Thanks for the tips on the hooks. I’ve been looking for some like that for a couple of rooms in my house.
This is absolutely beautiful!!!! I have a very small mudroom that I would love to redecorate. I’ve been wanting to do a board and batten wall with hooks…just like this. I will make special note of how I reinforce my hooks… :)
Traci,
Absolutely stunning! Doing laundry will be a pleasure in this wonderful setting!
Deborah
Looks really cute girl, way to make it look even better after the mishap!
I love how it looks. It’s amazing. I wish we had a mudroom. Maybe some day. The hooks and storage by the door is great.
Ruth
I love when a mishap turns into something good. This is such a great space! I love the ceiling in there!
Your mud room has turned out AWSOME! I love how the ceiling turned out too. My boys backpacks are pretty heavy too. They plop them inside the door with a big THUD every day. I need to get me some hooks!
Hi Traci, I just wanted to let you know I’ve featured your laundry room lantern on my post tonight and linked it back to your post. I hope that’s okay. I couldn’t find your e-mail so I’m leaving this as a comment. You can reply via e-mail if you’d like

oh yes thats nice!! love things that turn out so good. pretty and functional AND sturdy!!
Honey, your Mud Room deserves a whole week’s worth of posts! I love the way you turned your mishaps into a new architectural feature. The wall now looks so custom! (And believe me, the backpacks just get heavier–so you’ve done the right thing here!)
That adds a little extra interest doesn’t it? I have major mud room envy right now ;-)
I hate when I have to redo work on a project that was done like that. Like we don’t have 100 other projects waiting to be tackled instead of going back to one we thought was done! Happens to me all the time. But, it looks fantastic (again). What else are you going to do?
p.s. I’m totally drooling over the size of that room in addition to the fact that it is beautiful. Feeling green (with envy).
Your room is so pretty! Great job! I see people posting a lot about getting drawer pulls or hooks like these from Hobby Lobby. I don’t think ours carries them! I actually went today looking for drawer pulls and didn’t see them….but it was a very quick lunch break trip…I’ll have to go back and ask about them!
Loving your Laundry/Mud Room…every detail is just perfect!! Love your new baskets from Michaels & love the new way you hung your hooks! It looks great! I bought some hooks from hobby lobby this last weekend for a project in my oldest’s sons room…can’t wait to see how it turns out!!
love the added architectural detail with the reenforced batten for the hooks. Sahweet deal on the baskets. I was just at Hobby Lobby tonight and couldn’t believe the deals that were going on. Ours has 80% off of anything home decor! That’s fabulous.
Love the last shot of the mud room/laundry room. That beadboard ceiling makes me smile.
About the shelf above the baskets……how about a sign…a horizontal one that reads. “Grand Central Station.”
Lover~ly! Traci, you do a simply wonderful job keeping an elegant classic/modern home with all the great guys in your life! TFS and come on over and enter to win some wonderful organic pampering products!!! They actually make a chef’s friend odor remover soap bar that has coffee beans in its ingredients, pet coat conditioning bar and so much more! I’d love for you and your readers to enter – today’s the last day! I won some and am just in love with the products! I want everyone to try them :)

This looks really fantastic…amazing what one more piece of wood can do. Makes me wish I had a mud room!
Inspirational! I would love to convert my laundry-room and adjacent entry into a mudroom… but my awful plumbing is along the wall I’d want to move.
Traci, it looks SO gorgeous! I love, love that last shot. Enjoy that space. xoxo
Your mudroom turned out great! I agree with you that the adding the board adds an architectural detail.
I’d love to do something like this in my laundry room. I’ll have to see if I can get permission to do it in the parsonage.
This looks great. Don’t you love it when something lousy turns into something great! I have just got to do some board and batten somewhere in my home!
Isn’t it amazing how heavy those backpacks are? The new boards look terrific! Thanks for sharing.
I’ve been so busy catching up with work (we had the flu for almost two weeks!) that i didn’t get to catch any of your recent posts. Gonna find some time this weekend to catch up!
Love the new hook-look. You are right it looks so much better but I didn’t notice that it needed something before either :)
LOVE-ing your laundry/mud room. Makes me want to clean up and organize our laundry room space…or at the very least figure out a way to make a long, narrow space, filled to the brim with utilities, a bit more workable.
Love it! Wall color?! I love that too.
Yes yes yes! It looks so awesome! Don’t you just love mess ups? :)
That whole room is a real eye catcher!

It’s beautiful!! Please come to my house:)
Cant wait til Im done with my small entry way project you have given me inspiration!
You are making me sooooo jealous! I don’t know if my laundry room/mud room/utility room will ever look that nice!
L.O.V.E. the mudroom ceiling.
I have to ask, would you mind sharing the dimensions of the room? I’m craving a mudroom and yours is just about perfect!
Is it beadboard or tongue and groove on your ceiling? It looks amazing!!
I love your black door. I have the same color walls and am actually painting all my interior door black….. How did you put the “welcome” on the door? Your laundry room looks awesome!!!
I love this!!!! Where did you get the light fixture at? I think I need one :)
Would love to know where you got your light fixture!
hi traci! new followers (: your mudroom is darling! I wish az houses had that kind of character :/
have a great weekend! XOXO, Kelli & Kristi
I really like the way your laundry room came out. I think that was a very smart and pretty addition. Don’t worry about the baskets, they resemble each other pretty well I think.
Hello, I found your mudroom redo on another blog that I was looking at and I am so glad!! You and your husband did an awesome job, we have a very similar space just waiting to be redone. I have been looking for a picture of how I want it to look so my husband can build it…found it!!! Also do you know the color/make of the brown paint in the mudroom?
Keep up the good work!!
Mikala
