Front Porch Restoration – Part One

I wanted to show you what we have completed on our front porch so far.

We actually started this project within the first 24 hours we had moved into our home!

My hubby could not wait to tear down the front sunroom. I guess that’s what you call it.

The previous owners had put sliding doors up all across the front porch…

I like calling this our “front porch restoration”  because it sounds cool.  But I do not really know what I am “restoring” this front porch to?  I guess we’ll see!

My husband took a sledge hammer to the sunroom the day after we moved in…

Jonathan helped file down some nails with a grinder….

Do not ask me what that teapot thingy is on the wall.  I have no idea!  But it’s gone now. :)

The front porch looks so much better now.

Honestly, it is not my ideal front porch.  I do not like the door or the windows, or the way the fireplace sticks out.  It’s lacking in character.  But someday, we hope to create a whole new front porch on the house.  However, there are no funds to do that right now.  So we are going to paint the front door and add columns to make it look better.

Then I hope to add some decor.

It’s about making it the best with what you’ve got.

I pray you have a wonderful day!

  1. Glad your back. Loved all of your guest posters. I think a new color to the front door and some decor will be just what your front porch needs- and just in time to welcome all of your new neighbors who’ll drop by to welcome you to the neighborhood. I’m not sure what that little tea pot thingy was either but it looked like some turquoise chippy goodness! The perfect summer color. Blessinge to you.

  2. I can see the potential! Columns and a painted door will look fantastic. What color are you going to pain the door (do you know yet?) I’m so excited to see your house transform, I know it will be beautiful. I love your style!

  3. What a difference that made! Looks great. Are you considering painting the brick? Maybe a taupe, with white columns, black door and shutters, white accents? And then you could do some sort of red bench in front of the fireplace jut-out, with something cast-iron on top?

Wow, I’m not usually one for offering suggestions. That sounded…. obnoxious! But I see so much cute potential in your house, and that was just one of the ways I would go. Can you tell I’ve been house-hunting?? Congratulations on the new house and the awesome husband and kids!! Can’t wait to see what comes next!

  4. Hey, I think I have the same front door! I’m not fond of mine either, but replacing it seemed too pricey, so I painted it. It went from green to Sherwin Williams Weather Vane. I still can’t decide if I like it or not. Maybe I’ll just wait and see what color you paint yours, and then possibly steal, I mean borrow that color!

  5. I had to laugh out loud when your son says “unbelievable, is that like bullet-proof glass or something? :) I was thinking the EXACT same thing as I watched your husband banging away on the glass. It does look much improved already!

  6. Wow! He don’t mess around! I did watch this with my mouth open and hands on both sides of my face. Bless his heart….that’s alot of hard work. It looks wonderful.

  7. You are so right! It looks better already and will look great once you add some of your things. It is a great lesson you are teaching those young men of yours- to apply effort to improve what you have, and that not eveything has to be just the way you want it instantly. I’m looking forward to seeing the changes, big and small, as you get time to work on projects.

  8. Even without the columns and the paint and all the personal touches yet to come, it looks so much better! Can’t wait to see what all you do! :-)

  9. OMG … what an incredible difference !! I can’t believe the owners covered up such a welcoming entrance !! I know it’s going to look amazing once you put your “touch” on it !!

  10. I laughed out loud too at one of the boys saying that about the glass, and your husband reminds me a work horse pulling that carpet and stuff out of there! Way to go! Gail

  11. I am glad to see you back again. Watched the video, and have come to the conclusion that your old front porch was either surrounded with plexiglass, or like another poster said, bullet proof glass. Let’s pretend some “Mafia” figure used to live there, and it WAS bullet proof glass. A much better story, and so much more fun for the boy’s imaginations!! I am looking forward to each improvement you guys make. It will be truly beautiful I’m sure.

  12. OH my Traci!! First, I’m so glad you’re back! :) And wow, that looks SO MUCH BETTER already! You’ll have so much fun decorating that for the holidays! I’m so jealous of your huge porch!
Love ya girl, can’t wait to go on this adventure with you!

  13. What a huge difference already! Isn’t it amazing the differences in people’s taste? It seems obvious to me that no sun room is the way to go, but I guess the previous owners liked it. I think whatever you guys do to it is going to be a major improvement, and after it gets “The Traci Treatment,” it’s going to be so pretty!

  14. Appreciate you sharing this. I will like seeing your home transform into what the two of you very talented people make happen.

    God bless,
    d from homehaven

  15. “It’s about making it the best with what you’ve got”. I LOVE that!! It’s something that I’m learning more and more of every day. I know you will do just that and can’t wait to see it all unfold.

I know you’re very busy, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve started a linky party (hope it works). :) It’s called “Make a List Monday” where you make a short list of things you want to accomplish that week. If you miss a Monday, just join in early in the week. I’d love to have you some time! Good luck with the renovations!! :)

  16. I am still sad to see you leave you last home, it was beautiful. I know you will have your new place up and decorated in no time.

Can I please borrow your husband for about a week? I need a handy man to do some work at my home. I promise to pay him well and send him back when he is through. HaHa

  17. Sliding glass doors?? They wanted to be outside, but not?? :) I would’ve been pulling them out that quickly, as well. Looking forward to seeing the changes.

  18. It DOES look so much better! And yes…I was cringing every time he was tearing up all that stuff with no eye protection! My hubs works for a safety company that manufactures safety glasses, so I know aaaaaall about them! :D

  19. Just what your husband did made a HUGE difference..I know that whatever ya do will look beautiful..Can’t wait to see the end result..Have a great week..

  20. aren’t other people’s homes weird?!? we just moved into a new (1962) house 6 weeks ago and it came with a street light in the back yard. a huge 15 foot tall street light. we racked our brains trying to come up with why there would be a street light in the back yard….until we noticed the pool filter and pump. they had a pool up until a couple of years ago. they apparently filled in the pool, but left the “pool light” and all the equipment. we even found the skimmer on a hook on the fence! people are weird! your house looks so much better already!
