Beneath My Heart

Our New Entryway Update!

HOME TOURS

18 Jun

Hey friends!

I wanted to give you a quick update on our new entryway.

I have been giving little sneak peeks of our front porch makeover, but what you may have not realized is that building our new front porch has create a new entry way and mudroom for us!

It’s sort of hard to explain through pictures, so I might just have to do a video tour soon. :)  But here are some pictures I have snapped on my phone.

So the large doorway on the left in the above picture used to be wear our old front door and a small window was.  We took both of those out and created a large doorway between our den and front door.

Our new front doors are on the right.  I luuuurrrrvvvve them!

Inside the doorway in the middle is our “mudroom.”  This is actually my very favorite part of the whole new entry area!

IMG_54902We installed wood planks on the walls and floors and painted the walls the same color as our exterior brick (which we left exposed in this space.)  It is Benjamin Moore’s White Dove.

We built some new “shoe shelves” where a window used to be on our front porch.

We added some hooks on the wall and painted the floor gray.  I still have more hooks and baskets to add to the space, but we are getting there!

This is the view of the other side of the entry way.  I was standing in the mudroom when I took this picture.  You can see that we added wood to the walls in this area as well.  We will be installing the same wood flooring that is in our den in this area.  (Utility grade wood planks stained a dark walnut.)

We are not finished yet, but we are making some great progress.  AND I LOVE IT!

We should have most of it completed before our host daughter arrives next week.

And I will have to say that I have loved spending time with this little helper!  He is always asking Cy and I if he can help.  We let him help paint the walls the other night.  And he has probably singlehandedly filled and sanded every nail hole on every wall!

Have a blessed day!

I hope you’ll do a before & after post. I can’t wait to see it finished.

We’ve thought of doing something like this on our little ranch house – minus the mudroom. We already have a mud/laundry room entrance on the side of our house. We’d like to add an entry room on the front, kind of a buffer from the outside to the living room. This part of your house looks so much like mine my mind is flowing with ideas. Can’t wait to see the rest.

Jen, even if you don’t have a mudroom, a cloak closet is a very useful thing to have.

Your explanation of the new entry/mudroom was very well done. I love how you have a mudroom but it is tucked away to the side of the entry.

Love the mudroom. By the way, those of us in the Houston area did not want to be stingy. We wanted to share our tropical storm with everyone. ;-)

I would LOVE TO SEE pictures of all your completed projects, i.e. your host daughter’s room, the bunk bed room, your new office, new porch and entry, etc. I love seeing the inspiration pictures and the progress pictures. But there is nothing like viewing the completed project! :)

did you run any HVAC in the mudroom area or is it like an enclosed porch sort of space ?

We did not run any new HVAC in our new entry way. There is a vent right at the doorway when you walk in the den, so it keeps the temperature maintained in this space.
