Dealing with Disappointment (No Skype Call this Weekend)

Hey friends!

I am so very thankful for the sun shining in my window this morning as I prepare to head out to church.  I love Sunday mornings, not because I get to sleep in or doing nothing today, but because I get to go to church to refill my soul and receive the strength I need to go through the coming week.  I feel like I need it even more after this weekend.

This weekend was both joyful and extremely disappointing for us.

It was joyful because we got to travel to Indianapolis as a family and participate in the HearIndiana Talk/Walk/Run for hearing impaired children, and Jonathan was their special guest entertainer.  It rained the whole morning, but that didn’t stop #teamhutch from running.  :)

It was such an amazing time to see Jonathan interacting with other hearing impaired children who look up to him.  He encouraged them to not let their impairment stop them from dreaming BIG!

But amidst the fun of the weekend, we were so very disappointed that we didn’t get to Skype with our girl.  We never heard from our representative in her home country, so we are not sure why we didn’t get to.  But we haven’t seen her face since December, and we would love to see her again.

It is so very hard not to have control of this situation.  For everyone who has adopted or knows someone who has, they know that the road is filled with uncertainties and teaches you a great deal about patience.

When we realized we were not going to be able to Skype with her, it was so discouraging.  But in situations like these, all we can do is pray to the Lord for strength and patience.  We find great comfort in knowing that our lives and the life of our little girl is IN HIS HANDS.  And there are no other hands that I trust more.  They have never abandoned me or disappointed me before.  God’s way is always best.

Do you ever feel like you can’t see God’s hand in your situation?  I know I have felt that way at times too.  That is when we need to TRUST HIS HEART.

God is for us, not against us.  He loves us dearly and has HIS BEST in store for us.

When my mind starts to fill up with negative thoughts about our disappointments or difficulties, I try to remind myself of God’s promises found throughout His word.

11 For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for well-being and not for trouble, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will look for Me and find Me, when you look for Me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NLV)

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (The Message)

Friends, if you have disappointments or difficulties that you are facing right now, cling to God and His words to help you through it.

And if you would like for me to pray for you about something, please let me know.  I would be honored.  You can leave a comment or email me at beneathmyheart4@gmail.com.

Have a blessed day!

  1. Your family is in my continued prayers along with your little girl. So awesome that your family could participate talk/walk/run. Go teamhutch! My sweet friend Kim, in St Lous, is struggling deeply in her marriage. They have 4 children. Your prayers for her and her family would be great. Her children have been effected by what’s been going on for years. It’s not good .. My heart hurts for all of them. Have a blessed Sunday Traci. Thank you ;-)

    1. Hi Lisa, it would be an honor to pray for Kim and her family. I am so sorry that she is going through such a terrible time. I pray for God’s love to heal their marriage and protect her children.

        1. Good morning Lisa. I’ll pray for your friend Lisa and her family. I’ll pray for you too so that you have the wisdom and discernment needed to be the friend she needs.

  2. Your Jonathan is such an inspiration, to have accomplished so much at such a young age! Prayers and good wishes to the family as you wait for your girl to finally be with you. Nothing specific to request but we all need prayers on our behalf.

  3. Traci,

Please take comfort in knowing that our God knows what is going to happen. He already knows the outcome. This always gives me comfort as I know He see what I don’t. He is already “walking the path” of your tomorrows and the tomorrows of your little girl. Just as you have always trusted your Moms heart….you can trust His heart. Thanks for posting. I needed this.

Sorry if this has posted twice

  5. I will continue to pray that the adoption goes fast and ya’ll will have your darling girl soon to add to your precious family.

Prayers for my two adult children (son and daughter) and some consequences of poor decisions they made in the past would be certainly appreciated.

As a mother I wish I could control what they do and remove anything bad that might happen. As a child of God I have to learn to let go and give it all to a God. He knows what He is doing.

    God bless you.

  6. My heart aches as I read how much you miss your girl. God knows every little sparrow and even the number of hairs on each of your heads. He will bring you back together in His perfect timing.

  7. Here is one of my favs when dealing with dissapointment: Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Hugs from Iowa.

  8. YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO ME! I know we don’t know each other, and that I don’t write much, but I love your words and your sweet family. To have what you have is perfection even though you are in the midst of a difficult journey. Thank you for what you don’t even know you do for me! Prayers be with you!!!

Also, for Lisa D. at the top of this list…I will pray for your friend Kim, too!

  9. You are so precious. Don’t give up on your little girl. God knows what he is doing, and it’s all for your good

    Ever which way it goes

  10. Prayers up for you guys and your little girl! Control … always a battle for me. Turn it over to the Lord then realize I’ve taken it back so turn it over again. Timely message for me as I was laid off Friday … would have been 20 years with this company in August. The recession, tight credit, strong USD and political uncertainty … all brutal to the business. So head /heart reeling and a bit fragile as I trust the Lord to provide for mortgage /utilities/food and a new job for this 61 year old. Your prayers would be appreciated.

    1. After 22 years with his company my husband went through the same situation back in November, 2009. There wasn’t any warning and he wasn’t given any kind of severance at all so we were dependent on what we had in the bank at the time of the job loss. It was a very scary time but God provided for us during that difficult season of our lives and we got through it and adjusted to our new normal. I’ll be praying for you and your situation Guerrina.

  11. Guerrina, I will definitely pray for you! I know that can be devastating news, and I understand your worries.
I pray that the Lord would fill you with peace and joy as you trust in Him.
The verse Matthew 6:33 comes to mind… “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches YOU! Love you xoxoxo Traci

  12. My heart hurts for you Traci; I know your mommy heart needed that. Hang in there. Please pray for my son in Afghanistan; for his safety and for his salvation.

      1. Thank you so much. You are such a prayer warrior and I am comforted to know there is someone I don’t even know but loves me enough and my son enough to speak to Him on my son’s behalf.

  13. Traci, You are such an encourager! Even in the midst of your own trials, you lift others up by your faith in a mighty God. God is using your testimony in ways you cannot even imagine. Continued prayers for you, your family, and that sweet little girl so far away. God’s got this!

  14. Oh, I am so, so sorry for getting to connect with your girl. I’ve had more than a few situations where I wondered where God was, but HE has always showed up in His own time. Blessings to you and yours as you continue to wait.

  15. I am sorry you have not been able to skype and see her sweet face. Gods timing is perfect. Your strength is measured by His love. I want you to know your scripture refs touched my heart and I am forwarding them on to a fam member in crisis. How wonderful our Father is and in His Name we can be a part of a larger family

  16. “I get to go to church to refill my soul” I always taught that our soul can only be refilled by doing good, by helping others. How can you fill up your soul by only listening to the preacher’s words. I’m not criticizing you, I just want to know how exactly do you soothe your soul :)

    1. Lisa, great question. When my preacher shares God’s word, and when I read God’s word, it fills my soul. God’s word is living and brings life to all who hears it. Doing good and helping others definitely brings me joy, but it is ONLY God and His Word that brings me peace and rest for my soul.

Worship music also has a wonderful way of drawing me closer to God’s presence. When I am worshipping Him, it puts my whole life in perspective. Life can be hard and overwhelming at times, but when I focus my eyes on Jesus, it reminds me of what is most important in life and what life is really all about and that is a relationship with God.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

“Peace I leave with you, Peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.” John 14:27

Going to church is just one of the ways that God restores my soul. He always does that when I read my bible and pray at home during the week.

Thank you for your question, Lisa. God bless you and have a blessed day!
