Laying a Tile Rug for the Wilmore House Bathroom

It’s Hump Day!  Whew!

This past week has flown by because we have been burning the candle at both ends over at the flip house!  Jonathan drove up from Nashville on Thursday night to help me finish the bathroom remodel by my deadline since Cy was unable to do most of the work because of his eye injury.  (See update on Cy’s eye at the bottom of this post.)

We are working on this bathroom remodel with Wayfair for the #wayfair1roomreno challenge!

On Friday, Jonathan finished prepping to the floor to be tiled, mudded and sanded the drywall behind the toilet, and helped me paint the walls and trim.  laying a tile rug

He also grouted the shower tile for us.

On Saturday evening, after painting all the walls, Jonathan and I began tiling the floor.  I had a vision of what I wanted the floor to look like, and he helped me get it done.

Do you remember in THIS POST, how I asked you which black and white tile pattern you liked best?

Well, I decided to create a tile rug with my black and white penny tile and spent at least an hour that night creating my design and laying it out on the floor while Jonathan laid the white penny tile where the vanity would be.

This was definitely the most time consuming part of the project, but to me, soooooo worth it!  We were up until after midnight laying tile and of course, I documented it in my instastories with this picture. haha!

Even though the work was exhausting, Jonathan and I had a lot of fun listening to classic country music and talking about life.  Such great memories with my boys!

We let the tile dry overnight, and on Sunday, we grouted it.  You can see in the picture below when we were grouting the tile.

The flip house doesn’t have any electricity right now, so we had to do most of the tile work by the light of our head lamps which made things quite interesting!  That is why my pictures are not the best quality and you see so many shadows.

Jonathan was supposed to go back to Nashville Monday morning, but he cancelled an appointment to stay and help me a little longer.  I seriously could not have met my deadline and done this project without him!!

Here is a little sneak peak of the finished tile…

If you don’t follow me on Instagram, I put together this little 3 minute video from my Instagram stories for you to see all of the action first hand. :)

In two weeks, I will be sharing a FULL REVEAL with four other bloggers participating in the #wayfair1roomreno!  Can’t Wait!

UPDATE ON CY’S EYE:

You guys have been so sweet about checking on Cy
and praying for him.  We appreciate it so much!

When we went to the glaucoma specialist last Friday, Cy’s eye pressure was actually still high, and she decided to do the procedure where they basically make a small cut in the chamber of his eye to drain the fluid.  (I know.  ew.)

Cy was extremely nervous, but it was over in a flash, and the pressure in his eye immediately dropped to a safe level of 10.  He could feel a difference in his eye and was thrilled to finally get the pressure down.

We scheduled an appointment to go back to the glaucoma on Monday, but our local eye doctor, Dr. Musick, asked Cy to meet him at his office at 7:00 am on Sunday to check the pressure in his eye.  (He has been so worried about Cy and has given him extra special care!  LOVE Dr. Musick!!!)

Cy’s eye pressure was back up to 30, and we discouraged again and worried he may have to have a more invasive surgery on his eye.  However, when we went to the glaucoma specialist on Monday, his pressure was back down to around 19-20, which was great!

Cy is still on his medicine and a bunch of eye drops until his eye pressure stays level.

Sooooo, as you can tell, it has been quite the roller coaster ride.  We go back to the glaucoma specialist tomorrow and are hoping that his pressure is still down.

  3. I can’t wait to see pictures of the completed bathroom! I will continue to pray for any!

  4. Praying for Cy and your entire family through his recovery and your awesome project. I just love the tile floor.

  5. Is Cy having a lot of pain and headaches ? ust wondering because when my glaucoma and thyroid induced eye challenges cause headaches, i use a ball roller with peppermint essential oil wiped across my forehead (only a light swipe to prevent any challenges from the mint) This really helps with the antsy pressure (hard to describe) Since you use essential oils you may already be trying this but thought i would mention it because it really helps a lot.

  6. Okay, so, Jonathan is a true champ! Also…I watched the video thinking…the knees! The knees! His poor knees must have been so sore! I’ll be praying for that eye pressure to drop to normal and stay there. It must be driving Cy crazy that he can’t work on the house. You all are doing a great job!

  7. I hope and pray that Cy’s eye pressure stays down so as not to have to have more intensive surgery. I can’t even begin to imagine how hard this is on him and you all.
I am loving the rug idea with tile. Look forward to the reveal. What precious time you got to have with your son!

  8. The bathroom is beautiful Traci! and how blessed you are to have such a good son to help you get to the finish line on this one. That tile gives me all the feels <3!
I'm so glad to hear that Cy is making progress, and pray he doesn't need extensive eye surgery. I know Cy is just sick and worried about it all, and feels nervous about the future of his eye sight. The things we take for granted until we don't have them should give us all a moment of pause. I love your family and have been praying for all of you through this ordeal.

  9. Oh my word; the tile is absolutely beautiful! I would love to do something like that in our home. Praying for Cy and complete healing.

  10. Praying for Cy’s complete healing. Well done to you and your Jonathan! You are a loving family. Your hard work has paid off, it looks super.
