Notes from Home – Building a Knee Wall

Well, I cannot believe how long it has been since our last episode of Notes from Home….5 weeks ago!!

Y’all, I will be totally honest here.  It has broken my heart that we have not been able to do our Notes from Home videos every week like last year.   I have shed quite a few tears over it.

Making these videos has probably been one of my favorite parts (if not the favorite!) of blogging over the past 11 years!  Working side by side and day by day with Cy was a dream come true for me.  It’s always been a goal of mine to be able to work full time with Cy in this way.

But the Lord had other plans, and now that Cy is working full time at the bank again, we just cannot create weekly episodes like we use to.  And of course, with the unexpected worsening of Cy’s eye causing more surgeries, he is unable to work on the house like he had been doing.

So things have changed and shifted in our lives, and we are going to have to roll with it.

We will continue renovating our home AND creating new episodes of Notes from Home, it will just take a little longer than before.  And that’s okay.

Cy had surgery on his eye to remove the buckle placed on it after Christmas.  And he has to have cataract surgery in a couple of months, along with a third surgery on the muscle of his eye.  So this is going to be a long road and something we will have to deal with all year.

But thankfully, Cy is still able to work on the house on the weekends, and he has actually enjoyed it.  He said it makes him feel “normal.”

We have started working on the knee wall between the kitchen and sunken den.  As a reminder, this is what the space looked like when we bought the house.  That iron railing is approximately where we are building the new knee wall, except we pushed that half wall back a few feet and removed the steps if you remember from a previous episode.

You can see in the picture above that the white metal railing is a couple feet from the large window, but the new railing (below) is  right next to it.

We will eventually remove that large window and install large glass doors all across the back wall to lead to our new back patio.

I’m wanting to install doors like some of these I found on Pinterest…

We “might” try to get those installed before we start the kitchen renovation.  I think it will be another month before we start making plans for the kitchen because we will be adding on a little pantry and drink station that we have to build first.

Anyway, for now, let’s check out this week’s episode of Notes from Home!

  1. Hi Tracey,
First off, I want to let you know that I was so worried about you and your sweet family when I heard about the tornado that hit the Nashville area. Many prayers were sent your way!!
I wanted to let you know that Lowes has a fold down table just like what you are trying to replicate. not sure if it is the style you are going for, but it is butcher block, and is 20 inches x 48 inches it is called the Sparrow peak hardwood work bench (it states that it is 48 x 36, but that is incorrect).
Just wanted to let you know in case you could use it!
    Hope

  2. I’m continuing to pray for full restoration of Cy’s eye. I don’t understand God’s ways but I do know He is faithful and is trustworthy. Perhaps this is just a “Not now” season for you two to work together and it’s not a “No.”. Y’all work very well together. You have creativity, passion, the right blend of talents, and unique problems that you find ways to solve. Love watching Notes from Home and seeing your progress. Hang in there!! God has a great plan 🙌
