My Main Home Goal
Yesterday, Jonathan asked me if I was going to make any New Year’s resolutions.
My answer…no.
I never seem to keep them. I’m not trying to be a pessimist, just realistic.
However, a new year and a clean slate is a great motivator to get things done, ya know?!
I am highly motivated about ONE THING right now, as far as my home is concerned, and that is TO GET THE UPSTAIRS FINISHED!!!
We have lived in this home 2 1/2 years, and the upstairs is still not finished.
When I say “upstairs,” I am referring to the boys’ two rooms and the bathroom.
It is the top half of the addition that we started adding to our home two years ago.
My poor boys haven’t had a finished room since we moved into this home. Adam and Eli are still sleeping on a mattress on the floor in their room. Jonathan and Luke have had twin beds in their room for a few months now, but that’s about it. No shelves or anything. Everything lays on the floor.
It’s maddening I tell ya! Thankfully, I have boys because if I had 4 daughters, they would have already run me out of the house by now!
We have had so much to do around the downstairs of our home, that it is easy to forget about the upstairs. You know, out of site, out of mind.
But I have started working on Jonathan and Luke’s room, and I am on a roll. Here’s a sneak peek…
Next will be their bathroom. I plan on doing some board and batten on the walls, tiling the shower, and Cy is going to make the vanities.
Then Adam and Eli’s room.
I’M GONNA DO IT!!!!
And I can’t wait to share it on my blog with you. I have a lot of fun projects in the works.
Do you have a MAIN GOAL
for your home in 2014?
I’d love to hear it!
We are planning on redoing our den. Making it more masculine but not exactly a mancave. Any ideas???? LOL!!
One goal is to remove the builder’s vanity, tile beneath it and replace it with a new vanity and faucet. Keep your fingers crossed!
My main goal for my home this year is to sell it!
I’ve lived in my home for 30 years and it has undergone myriad remodels and redecorating sprees. This past summer we redid our living/dining rooms. But, I tell my husband that it is like the Golden Gate Bridge painting project … once you get through a round, it is about time to redo something else. This year it will be to freshen all of the upstairs bedrooms that have become guest rooms rather than children’s bedrooms.
Good luck with your upstairs goals. I’m sure that’s going to feel great to have it done. :-) I have lots of little goals to accomplish around the house and in our yard. My biggest goal is to keep working on stuff and not get side tracked. :-)
I can’t believe it’s been that long since you moved! Seriously? It totally feels like you moved last year. Can’t wait to see what you do because this is the year I’m redoing Aidan’s room :D
Yea! You go girl. I’m sure the boys will be so happy when you finish their rooms. Can’t wait to see what you do :-)
sounds great. I am wondering if any of those talents that went into the chicken coop will surface with your 4 helpers ??that should be great fun. I really think some of the greatest memories I have are to help my parents on a project and then again with my children the same thing.I would imagine with all the endearments you mention about your parents many also involve accomplishments.
Happy New Year. and safety in your projects.
My goals are to clean the clutter, aorganize pictures that are in shoe boxes, paint a china hutch, remove the glass and insert punch tin panels. I need to do a Home Depot run to pick up the flashing or cooper, so I can get started “punching”
You all have been very busy. I love each and every thing you have done.
We will be working on the craft room and I want to do albums for my 2 children.
All the best getting your upstairs finished! You’ve done so much in a short period of time. I love the bathroom floor tile. Would you mind sharing where you purchased it? Thanks!
That tile is from Lowe’s. LOVE IT!
Yes! I do have a main goal…to finish renovations to our farmhouse so we can move in and sell our current home and get out from under 2 mortgages! Long sentence, I know! We bought a 110 year old farmhouse with a working cattle farm back in May. We have worked non-stop at renovations to the home and the land since May. Even on Christmas Eve and New Years Day! We are soooo close to being able to move into the house-just sanding cracking plaster and painting the rooms. I pray everyday that God will help us get through this period in our lives so that we can enjoy the fruits of our labor.
If it makes you feel any better, we have lived in our house for almost three years now and we don’t nearly have as much done as I would like. We are expecting our first little guy on Tuesday (!!!!!!!!!!) so that really kicked started getting a lot of stuff done, but again, being in the house for three years and seeing what is done doesn’t seem like “enough”. We really don’t have too much more to do, but it’s such a hassle and “ugh” moment when you have to paint a room that’s fully furnished because there’s no where for the furniture to go/you don’t want to paint around everything. It really does need to get done though! Maybe this year will be the year! Good luck to you! =]
Your home is beautiful. My goal this year is to rid my house of clutter. I have been sick for the past 7 years. My husband, bless his heart, has been wonderful at taking care of things. But he is no decorator. Praise God, I am feeling better and gaining strength every day so this is my year to get this house picked up and put back together. My mom is also my inspiration…..she could make any room look beautiful with very little. How I miss her.
I am determined to convert the junk bedroom into an office/craft room. It’s been 9 years since my son moved out. It’s way past time.
Sounds like our place. Our remodel was completed a year and a half ago but we still do not have a master bedroom. It became the dumping ground as things found new homes downstairs but I am determined to finally have a master retreat this year!
