Sunday Encouragement

Hey Friends!

God bless you on this wonderful Sunday.

Last week, I share with you how important it is for us to spend time in God’s word daily.

In college, I framed this quote and kept it on my desk at all times.  This quote has stuck with me for over 20 years now.

It is a daily struggle for me to spend time in God’s word.  There is always “something” that I need to do that I somehow convince myself is more important than spending time with God.  Friends, there is NOTHING more important than Knowing God.

I had many of you ask me recommendations of devotional books to use.  Devotional books are really a “personal” thing because you need to find one that works for you.  But I do want to share some of my favorite with you.

I have  been loving Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.

A classic that my mom gave me years ago is Streams in the Dessert.

The ever popular One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.

Encouragement for Today by Lysa TerKeurst, Renee Swope, Samantha Evilsizer…

And The Power of a Praying Wife, by Stormie Ormartian…

If you click on each picture, it will take you to Amazon to purchase each book.

Remember, these are just suggestions.  You could visit your local Christian bookstore and ask the store worker for some help in picking a devotional out.  Check them out yourself and see what you think.  Some are more in depth than others, and you need to pick the one that fits you and your lifestyle best.  You can also find devotional apps or online bible studies that you could listen to while driving to work in the car!

I also want to highly encourage you to listen to Christian music as much as you can.  It will change your entire attitude each day.  I keep my radio on KLove, but I also like to listen to Christian music on Pandora while working on my computer or cleaning around the house.  So many songs contain scripture that will help draw your heart closer to God.

Friends, there is so much negativity in the world it is overwhelming.  We need to make it a priority each day to put more of GOD in our hearts and minds than the negativity of this world.  We can do that through His Word, His Music, and His Fellowship (church.)

I hope this helps you a little.  Writing posts like these help to hold me accountable to spend time in God’s word as well.  So thank you.

If you have a favorite devotional book, please share it in the comments.  It would be a great way to encourage each other.  :)

Have a blessed day!!

  1. Thank you sharing .I struggle as well to just sit down and listening to God’s word.I love your blog ! it is inspiring and always God honoring <3

  2. Traci, Streams in the Desert is also one of my longtime favorites. I have my mom’s copy that she received from a friend the year I was born. I have enjoyed a variety of other devotionals over the years–too many to list!
I appreciated how you featured my new devotional book, The Listening Heart: Hearing God in Prayer, last fall, and I often hear how God is using it in the lives of readers–all praise to Him! I’m still amazed how God turned my prayer journals into a book. He is so good and faithful!
I struggled for years to be consistent in spending time with the Lord. Now that “love feast” first thing in the morning is the best part of my day. I just wish I hadn’t waited so long to make it a priority. It has made a huge difference in my life as I have so fallen in love with Jesus.
Thanks, Traci, for your encouraging Sunday posts!

  3. My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers is one of my favorites. I have an old book by Charles Swindoll that I like to read at times – Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life.
I appreciate so much your Sunday Encouragements, Traci. I have not been in the Word like I need to be, and my relationship with God is suffering. I am thankful He is using you to remind me.
