My Trip to Las Vegas with Lowe’s, Kobalt, and Habitat for Humanity {Part One}
Oh my goodness, where do I even begin?!!!
I just had the trip of a lifetime last week with my sweet hubby thanks to Lowe’s! Here we are on the plane headed to our connecting flight in Chicago.
We were headed to Las Vegas to help with a Habitat for Humanity build at the Kobalt400 Nascar event.
I am EXTREMELY passionate about the work that Habitat for Humanity does for well-deserving families, and so is Lowe’s!
Lowe’s is all about TEAMWORK, and they have partnered with Habitat for Humanity for over a decade helping build homes for those who need it most. They encourage and support their employees to volunteer at Habitat builds. They also encourage their customers, like me and you, to get involved as well. I love this slogan…
If you would like more information about how to JOIN A BUILD
in your community, click HERE.
The cool thing about joining a Habitat build is that it changes your life as much as it does the family you are building the house for. It’s a win-win!
Cy and I had the job of measuring and nailing the support board in between the studs in the walls..
This cute old guy in the cut off white overalls was our “cutter” for the day. We would take him our measurements, and he would cut our boards for us.
Okay, so a site like this makes me giddy….brand new Kobalt tools!..
The build was actually taking place on site at the Kobalt 400 race track. We were located at the Kobalt booth and tons of Nascar fans traveled in and out of our space, many of them signing their names on the wood beams being used to build the house.
If you are a Nascar fan, then you know that Lowe’s and Kobalt sponsors #48, Jimmie Johnson.
Jimmie and his pit crew were on the site on Friday helping to build the house.
It was quite an amazing site to see! A house being built right in the parking lot at a Nascar event! :)
The framed house will eventually be moved to the new property of the home owners.
There were four other bloggers there with us. Pete and Marty from Dadand, and Matt and Jacque from The DIY Village.
On the other side across from where we were building, there were cool displays of Kobalt tools and even a place where you could “change the tires” on a race car.
We also got to meet and talk to two other future home owners through Habitat for Humanity. They were volunteering on the build, and it was so awesome to hear their stories. They talked about what it meant for them to have their own homes, and it brought tears to my eyes. There truly is “no place like home!”
On Sunday morning before the race, Jimmie Johnson stopped by the site to talk about the build to his fans. Here he is for some Q&A…
Then he passed the “key” to the new home owners,
What a precious site! The Camarena’s are the parents to 5 beautiful daughters!
I wanted to squeeze these two little ones!!! :)
This video sums up DAY ONE of our trip!
(If you watch closely, you might see my hubby bustin’ some moves.) :)
Next week, I will share DAY TWO of our trip, and if you are a Nascar fan (or someone in your family is) you will definitely want to read that post! We got to experience the VIP treatment at the race and may have even walked the red carpet!
FUN!!
It was so much fun following you on Instagram last weekend! I’m a super girlie super NASCAR fan.
Kristin, I wish you could have been there for yourself! What a great memory!
Sounds like an AWESOME trip! My hubby and I are becoming involved with Habitat for Humanity this year through our church. What a great cause.
